It's safe and friendly in a way the whole country was many years ago. G-Rated, family-friendly TV, reading material and conversation. You'll be greeted by a group of friendly barbers who don't just cut your hair - everyone gets the hot towel treatment, their neck shaved with hot lather and a straight razor and a shoulder massage done with an electric hand-held massager - all included in the price of your haircut. There is coffee and sweets while you wait. The prices are posted. All the barbers do a great job. The wait can be long if you're waiting for a particular person so most people go to whoever is open when their turn comes. If your really pressed for time you can ask them to skip the message. They want what you want. If you hate going to get your hair cut, do yourself a favor and give Johnny's a try. You'll be back. What's my favorite thing about the place outside of Johnny himself? The Lime-sec he uses to freshen me up. I love that smell and for people like me, the products they use on you are also available for sale. UPDATE 1/29/17 - While Johnny's online presence indicates he's closed today, a Sunday, he is indeed open. Why is that? Johnny has decided to close his shop on Saturdays (I'll give you a moment to read that again.) The Johnny's where a Saturday would find 4-5 barbers and a packed waiting area is now closed on that day and open from 7:30AM to Noon on Sunday. I arrived today at 7:31AM to find only Johnny and another barber, each with a person in their chair, with 3 others waiting. Not good. It takes Johnny himself about 45 minutes on average to complete a person - and that's not for a scissor cut. Not wanting to be here for hours I went with the other barber. Even though she isn't usually one of my top picks she does a good job and is quicker than the rest. Closing on Saturday, in my mind equals a lost star.

The two barbers at Close Shave are excellent. The level of attention and detail they place into each haircut is astounding. They are true artists. Easily the best cuts I have ever gotten. What a good deal! My second time was with a tall white gentleman with a purple mohawk, who while providing an excellent service and a great haircut, was not a student barber. This meant that I needed to pay full price which was around $20 to $25 for a haircut and beard trim, and with a tip, it came out to $30. Pricey! My 3rd and most recent time was a haircut performed by a barber who was somewhere between a fresh student and a experienced professional. He was a young Latino fellow who at the time seemed to be in a hurry to eat lunch. Unfortunately, this meant that it was easier to make mistakes and I ended up bleeding profusely in several areas when the barber used his single blade razor to shave my neck and upper cheeks. Fortunately, he was a nice guy. He apologized and refused to accept payment (i.e. I got a free "haircut"), and even offered me a free towel. In terms of ambiance, this place has a constant flow of customers coming in, and it has an interesting set of articles and pictures on the walls along with a TV playing music to keep you entertained while you wait. Ultimately, the good and the bad all kind of even out, and this place receives an average score of 3/5 in my opinion.

I told her how I wanted my haircut and she cut it exactly that way. She applied hot shaving cream after and cleaned the back of my nape with a razor just like the old barbershops barbers did back when. She trimmed my beard and all the corners perfectly. I felt nice and refreshed walking out. I was very satisfied with the haircut and also the price. I will be recommending this barbershop to others.
