Normally, this would cause a red flag but perhaps it was early or an off night. Los Campos is located on the south-eastern side of Centro Historico district and is an easy walk from Jardin de la Union. What drew us to Los Campos was the referenced diversity of their menu. My companion eats chicken and fish, while I am a vegan and plant-based. Their menu has multiple vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. While the flavors were pretty good, it was the plate presentation that was exceptional and we both felt that Los Campos was a little too pretentious for us. I was limited to order the Chaminones con Mezcal. Mushrooms flambeed in Mezcal with orange zest and dried chile. My wife, although not excited to try, did have the Burrito de Cerdo Ahumado en Salsa Colorado. It wasn't that Los Campos was too fancy, it was more like we, as diners, were more comfortable in other settings. We would suspect that diners from the United States or from Europe would fall in love with the avant-garde interiors and plate presentations. From all accounts, that all seems to be true, it's just our style. Our food was good and was plated expertly and I don't have any issues recommending Los Campos for a romantic dinner out for a couple.

Someone told me about the tasty conchas (popular Mexican sweet bread) this restaurant has, so I went the head waiter received us well not with a smile but well enough. We went around 11:am, and it looked crowded, I thought the food must be really good. I started with chilaquiles and juice and my companion got molletes and same juice also, all was really good. When we finished we ask for two vanilla conchas one with Nutella and mine with nata (like milk cream) it looked a bit brown like burnt. I was disappointed because a lot of people told me how good the conchas were and for me it wasn't like that. I told the nice girl waiter about it, so they're more careful next time. Only one thing I didn't like I saw another waiter taking a concha to other table and it looked much better than the one they gave me. I noticed that most of the people who goes to this restaurant is "well dressed" people. I don't know why they gave me the burnt concha but I'm sure they wouldn't dare to give it to an affluent person. I'm giving you three stars, so you can do better next time and don't pick and choose because you know better when a bread hasn't cooked right.

Starting with a huge glass of fresh OJ that reminds one of what OJ should taste like, I ordered the Chile rellenos with cheese, cilantro and crema. I had never eaten a Chile relleno but my friends said this is not the typical version. It came with tortilla chips inside the relleno and with the toppings was a cross between a baked potato and nachos. Whatever version this was, it was tasty. After a cappuccino I wandered around the outside grounds of this pleasant space.
