This chain is usually reliable and the menu varied enough to please most people. Sadly our meal at the Cambridge branch was a bit mixed this time. The nachos as ever were a safe bet and the mushroom quesadillas starter was fine. My fish dish was as good as ever (Moqueca de peixe) but my partner's chicken dish (Bahian Coconut chicken) just tasted like some curry powder had been mixed in at the last minute to a thin sauce - dreadful! We had to ask several staff if the chicken was free-range and eventually the manager assured us it was (having checked with the kitchen). Doubt that it was though...

Okay food, terrible service. Forgot about my friends order and never brought out food once we reminded them. Had refund issued to us.

Drinks are great! Food is good, but overpriced I thought. The ambience is always fun.

For my lunch experience, I sample the lamb albodigas (meat balls), empanadas, focaccia bread with dipping sauces and nachos with guacamole.

Fun and creative idea to eat Latin food inside a double decker bus. Let me clarify that this is a…read morefood bus, not a food truck. Meaning that you can actually eat inside this vehicle. You order downstairs, seats and tables are on the second floor of the bus. The whole bus kind of shakes whenever someone walks in it. The seats are covered in some kind of a hemp cover and are very worn. There are also a few tables outside the bus. The arepa is a bit expensive and not filled up like a pocket. Just the flat corn bread and all fillings on the side. The vegetarian filling was mainly kidney beans and cabbage with spots of black beans, then avocado, salsa and sour cream on the side. They need to salt the food more, it's too bland and hardly any seasoning. I have had much better arepas in NC. Matt G - neither NC nor Cambridge are places renowned for their arepas! I don't know if it's a geographical difference because I have only had Venezuelan arepas and this was a Colombian version. The empenadas were super hot in temperature, couldn't touch it for 10 minutes, never seen a snack so steaming hot. But rather this than cold. Just like with the arepa, you can get empenadas with vegetarian, chicken, beef filling and I think the price is the same. The dough is different from the Argentinian empenadas I have had, more like a fried coating rather than baked, if that makes sense. Apart from arepa, empenadas, you can also get tostones. The menu is very limited, it's not a full dinner kind of place. They also have a weekly special which this time was a shrimp dish, which was too expensive at something like 2£ per shrimp. Also Colombian coffee on the menu. The location is a bit odd and random. The bus is placed next to a retail parking lot on the outskirts of the city. On a sunny day, With Colombian pop loudly playing in the speakers of the bus you might even feel like you are in downtown Bogotá, who knows.

Both the staff there were very humble and accommodating, working non stop to dish up delicious plates of Columbian food at portions big enough to feed two and all at affordable prices. At the front of the counter were a lovely selection of starters containing many unusual and delicious looking Colombian street foods. I say unusual but that is because I have not seen many of these delicacies in London before. Chorizo on cornbread This was okay. I think the cornbread let it down a bit being quite dry and bland but the chorizo itself made it worthwhile. Made from grounded meat and spices the texture was very moist and creamy, tasting much like processed meat. But I liked it and the heat built up after each bite making it quite spicy. Beef empanadas Very different to a lot of the Spanish versions I've had as the filling was more fluffy due to the addition of mash potato in it too instead of being very meaty. It was very flavourful, comforting, with the beef giving it the oomph of flavour it needed. The soft texture was a lovely contrast to the crispy cornmeal fried batter too which sadly started to become slightly hard and chewy from being left out too long and then reheated. But for the cheap prices they're charging, I am not complaining. Papas Rellanas (stuffed potatoes) These were definitely the highlight of our meal. Fried potato balls made of mash potatoes stuffed with rice, beef and onions. It starts off being crispy before you break the thin fried outer shell and reach into the lovely generous soft fluffy filling. It was seasoned perfectly with mild spices, adding complexity and depth to the ground beef and sweet onions. Comfort food at its best Pollo a la plancha A delicious plate of wholesome food. For someone who doesn't like chicken breast I was so surprised at how much I loved this dish. It was obvious that the chicken was marinated for long hours to give out the lovely mild savoury spices against its natural sweet flavours with a lovely hint of smokiness as a result of being beautifully grilled. It was succulent and tender too. It came with a lovely side of braised red beans, cooked till fluffy and soft and seasoned perfectly. Salad helped reduce the stodginess as well and adding some crunch to the dish and a lovely juicy plantain for some sweetness. All accompanied with fluffy rice and a runny fried egg. Bandeja Paisa A gigantic platter of food consisting of fried pork belly, two grilled beef, grilled chorizo, a fried egg, fried bread, stewed pinto beans, plantain, a slice of avocado and salad. It was delicious and every part of it. The pork belly was delicious. Being fried you have a lovely contrast of the crispy outside and the soft tender inside with good fatty boys melting in your mouth. Beef were beautifully marinated, smoky and although required a bit of teeth work they were very enjoyable to bite through its rich flavours. Chorizo were lovely with its sweet spices and meaty texture. Everything else was great too, either all fresh or cooked perfectly. For £12 it was a bargain especially when it fed the both of us and we even had some leftover to takeaway. I think I found a hidden gem as I have been trying to find more information on them on the internet but there is minimal information about them. Yet the place was packed the whole time we we were there and staff were ever so accommodating. It's not a place for a first date though as the market it is in (Holloway Nags Head) can be a a bit rough sometimes and the restaurant itself is quite run down with poor paint job. However for a bit of change to the usual and for authentic Colombian food and cheap budget eats, I highly recommend this place and I will be back soon.

Unfortunately, this time things went downhill. Not the service, which was exemplary. The food was, once again, of high standard. But........... I had booked, a number of weeks prior, a table for St. Valentines Day. The booking requested a £10 pp reservation fee to be paid. This I did by popping in one lunch time. No problem, they have to make sure of numbers, I assumed. On the evening we arrived and were shown to a tiny table. I asked if we could have a larger table or, preferably, a booth. I was told they were all reserved. I had booked about four weeks ago???? I will say that during the evening at least one couple arrived without a booking and were shown to a booth. The table was, as I say, tiny. OK if you were having a drink and a plate of food. We had fours cocktails, two plates and four tapas plates balanced on that table. Really did take the enjoyment away. I wont say what would happen if a couple ordered two fajitas meals. Impossible to eat it. An order for a specific cocktail was met by sorry we don't have any of ??????. Irish coffee, sorry we don't have any cream. Then when the bill arrived no where to be seen was the £20 deposit. When queried I was told it would be paid back onto my credit card used to pay it???? I paid cash. All in all a totally ruined St. Valentines evening. As the saying goes 'a bad day in the office'. However, it doesn't change my overall thoughts about Las Iguanas. We will be back but, on this occasion, two stars only for the service provided by the girls and the food delivered.

We looked at a few menus and settled on Las Iguanas with their Latin American offerings. The interior was nicely decorated with lots of bright colours and hanging strings of lights to give it a kinda outdoorsy patio look. They do have a very nice patio also but it was too cool to sit out there. I ordered half a rack of Havana Club & Jerk BBQ Glazed Pork Ribs (Fall off the bone individual pork ribs covered in a sticky rum glaze, topped with crispy onion & chilli) from their lunch menu, served with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. It was very good, just the right tenderness to release off the bone easily. Tasty. My three companions opted for a variety of appetizers, including chicken wings, quesadillas, and nachos. It was like tapas style. It was all very good. Their drink menu features Two-for-One cocktails all day so I tried the Rum Runner (Havana Club 3 Yr Rum, blackberry, banana, lime, pineapple, grenadine). It was good! Nobody else wanted a drink so I had them both. No problem! For dessert, we had the Creamy Caramel Cake, Coconut Ice Cream, and the Banana Empanada. Again, these did not disappoint. They were all very good. Good food and good service - that's what makes you come back. So we did. A week later, we made an unplanned trip to Milton Keynes, directly from Paris, to spend a few hours with a dear friend. We all agreed that we had to come back here for lunch. Again, we were not disappointed. This time, a friend and I ordered the Dominican Goat Curry (A spicy Dominican-style goat & scotch bonnet chilli curry with spring onion rice, fried plantain & pink pickled onions). It was very good but I have to say, it was one of the spiciest dishes I've ever had from a restaurant! HOT!!! Another friend had the ribs that I ordered the last time and our fourth diner went the appetizer/tapas route with wings and quesadillas. Despite all the choices within a few steps away, it was an easy decision to come back here. Again, tasty food and good service wins!
