The kitchen could not cope with rugby day busy and instead of slowing down and not serving so many tables, they churned out well below average plates of food. Our table of seven people took 25 minutes from first person served their food to the last person served, the first person was nearly finished. Also special requests like no salsa were not done and the chicken was so over fried it was impossible to cut through. Good points were the big horseshoe booths which were very sociable. The nachos were great and the Mexican straw hats were fun. Get the food right and it could be great.

The customer service is as bad as it could get - I've been here twice and BOTH times it was horrible so I don't think it's the fault of the waitresses, it's probably more likely due to improper training of inexperienced servers. They were friendly, but nothing came on time - this was consistent in my two separate visits. Food took ages to arrive and when it did, it was stone cold. Ages to order, ages to get the bill. In the second time we came and the waitress had no idea how to split a bill. One of my friends who had worked in hospitality before had to help her. Again, this is not the fault of the waitress - she was untrained! And there didn't seem to be a manager in sight that she could ask! I felt bad for her because she was obviously getting very flustered and apologetic but she had just never been taught how to split the bill. The first time I went, what should've been a quick breakfast ended up taking around 1 hour and 30 minutes from start to finish. ~ Food: Mediocre, but that's probably due to the fact that it was stone cold by the time it got the table. Both times we came here it was an empty house and they still couldn't cope, so I struggle to imagine what things would be like if it ever got busy. I'm not sure how many chefs they have but it couldn't be many. --- I would definitely avoid this place. There's plenty of other options in Friars Walk that have quick and efficient service. Chiquito needs a complete overhaul of the customer service because it really is abysmal.

The first time I visited here was last winter and lordy lord was it freezing! It was below 10 degrees outside and about minus 4 inside. It felt like the air conditioning was stuck on full blast, I don't remember the food/service or anything as I wanted to bolt out of there as quick as possible. The last time was at Valentines with my lovely and was a lot better, especially warmth wise. We were met by a compere that had the cheek to say there may not be any tables available, after letting him know that over half the restaurant was empty I wouldn't think that was a problem. No one likes to be made to look silly and he wasn't very friendly after that. That was the last problem with unfriendly staff as our water was so delightful. He did really make our day with his upbeat personality and we ended up having a good laugh with him. I do believe that this Chiquito does take aways too, which includes the full menu. I'm not sure the Cardiff Centre one does that, don't quote me on that though.

Located at the opposite end of the Red Dragon Centre's car park, the restaurant itself is in a distinctive looking building, with excellent furnishing inside and out. During the evenings, a time i'd recommend eating more so than lunch time, there's a vibrant and family orientated atmosphere. Once seated, the clean cut, contemporary surroundings aren't really in character with how one would imagine a Mexican restaurant, although it is very pleasant. The menu itself is stocked full of 'Mexican' dishes, although typically these consist of the more Westernised meals like fajitas and nachos, rather than genuinely authentic Mexican cuisine. Perfectly edible and tasty, the meals aren't anything to write home about. I do enjoy Mexican food particularly, but I wouldn't rank this as much higher than anything I could prepare for myself at home. Who knows, maybe i'm just a great chef.

The owner of this small cafe/deli is one of the many people running the operations behind the display counter. As you walk in the shop, you first see a little shop that sells cards and trinkets. In the far end is the display case and counter where you can order food. The other half of the restaurant is the dining area, where the food is brought to your table. The decor of this place is wonderful - quaint country cottage style theme with bright colours, simple wooden furnishing, while maintaining minimalism. Great place for a bunch of girls to meet for brunch (as was most of the clientele when we arrived for brunch before we headed out to go castle hunting for the day. The food selections are limited to sandwiches and salads as it is a cafe but they do a great job with the menu. We had: - two capuccinos - one chorizo and chicken wrap: tasted mexican and was recommended by the owner - one breakfast toastie: came with a delicious salsa The total was about 13 quid and the atmosphere makes you not want to leave. Also they have free wifi. They close at 5pm so it's not a place to have dinner. If I lived in Newport, I'd definitely be here all the time.

Last time I went I arrived at the bar as the barman was serving a customer in front of me. Once he had finished serving his customer he headed back up the bar to begin mixing a cocktail jug. After a full minute of being ignored I asked could I order some food to be asked if I could 'hang on' as he was serving someone (there was no-one else besides me stood at the bar). When he eventually came to take my food order, he left half way through to go and talk to another member of staff further down the bar, again with no explanation. When he returned I ordered salmon noodles and chicken penne pasta. Before I could pay, the other member of staff asked what I was ordering, and informed me that there was no pasta available. I ordered a Que Pasa Club sandwich instead and paid the bill. Ten minutes later the barman came over to the table to inform us that there was no salmon noodle dish available either. Eventually he had to call the other member of staff over to explain to us exactly what we could order. Items not available were: any salads, burgers, noodles, stir fry, fajitas, tuna, pasta or paella. We ordered a pizza and were then told that there would be a 45 minute wait as there were four other tables who had placed orders for Tapas before us, and these would take a long time. When the food arrived, the pizza had to be sent back as it was cold, and the club sandwich was the most appalling, un-appetising thing I have ever seen soggy toast, one slice of tomato in the whole sandwich, only two slices containing lettuce, and then it was tiny pieces of red lettuce which looked like it had come from the bottom of the bag. When I mentioned this to the manager I was informed that there was no salad left, and asked whether I would like a free drink as they had no lettuce. To be honest, the way the question was asked made us both feel as though we were being petty for mentioning it. Despite the fact that the staff did apologise, it did not feel genuine, and one member of staff constantly mentioned what a hard day and what a long shift he'd had as he'd had to work extra because they'd been so busy. Unfortunately by this point I didn't feel much sympathy!
