The landscaping and upkeep is quite impressive as I found the park to be clean with the trails paved and grass cleanly kept. All the other reviews can attest to the beauty of this park. There is a nice 5K route, but you can even make it a longer run by adding a section. At the park is a playground, pool, and a frisbee golf course. Around 7PM when the sun starts descending it's gets busier. I ran the first day around 5PM and that was brutal, wouldn't recommend it.

There's plenty of sites to set up vehicles and tents with hookups, picnic sites, showers, and trails to the lake for fishing and hanging out. There's also trails for biking/hiking where you can enjoy the scenery and sounds of nature. Many people commented about how dirty it can be. Fortunately, I did not encounter any of that during my visit. But I know the frustrations. People need to clean up after themselves as this nice park and camping destination is for everyone. I hope the visitors treat it that way.

They have…read morelots of sites, many have partial hook ups, some have full hook ups, and a few have these nice cement platforms raised up and under shades!! There is also a large lake for boating and swimming (at your own risk as there are no lifeguards). Lots of shaded picnic and grilling areas, and a couple playgrounds. Inside the Ranger Station at the front entrance you can buy a Texas State Park passport. A page is devoted to each state park where you can make notes of what you did or saw and get your book stamped. If you visit a park in 2023 you can also purchase a Centenial I was at this park "collecting bugs" (taking snapshots) so my kid could identify them on a bug identification app. Found some exciting specimens that I have never come across before!! There are also a lot of birds and some other wildlife, of which I found footprints. It was really hot that June morning and I think the animals were smarter than me and hiding from the heat. This park is really good but could use a little more funding or updates. There's an unused building at the top of the hill that would make a very cute gift shop or exhibit area if someone could refurbish it and add in some cooling system. The narrow dirt trails were nice but should probably be designated either for mountain biking or for walking as a couple of bikes came upon my suddenly in areas of heavy vegetation. I'm glad I didn't step in front of them. (If there are some Girl Scouts out there, maybe you could campaign to get some local companies to come together and fix up some stuff at this gem of a state park.)

The bathrooms were clean, and each campsite had a nice cover over the table. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. However, the hiking trails were really just walking trails and weren't that exciting. We were also woken up every morning at 5am because the duck hunters would unload near our site and walk down to the lake. If you did manage to fall asleep you were soon woken up to gunshots starting around 6:30 for hunting. The first night, right at dusk, we were attacked by some sort of nasty flying bug.. I think maybe industrial terminates because they came from the ground. It was terrorizing. But didn't happen the second night. And the Javelina's were really cool to see, but an absolute nightmare for our guardian dog. They do get close to the campsite, even if people are out, and our dog declared them as public enemy number one. So we were always on edge and looking for them before he caught wind of them. If you are looking for a chill spot to just hang and camp, I recommend. But if you are looking for more activities in a park, this honestly wasn't the place. The kids activities that were scheduled for the Saturday were cancelled, which was disappointing.

I'm pretty sure that this isn't a state park. It's a RV…read morepark located right on the highway, across the Frio River from a huge Valero refinery. Peaking over the tops of the tree, you see cracking towers, pressure valves, and exhaust vents. Over the roar of the waterfall, you can hear pressure being released and gases being mixed. Yes- there is a waterfall. The Frio River falls down about six to ten feet down a series of steep steps that looks so inviting, if it weren't for the refinery next door, and oh yea- that sign that says, "Alligators exist in this park." Nope. If that wasn't reason enough, there's a sign asking visitors to not swim, and stay off the grass. The park was clean. There's lots of spots available to camp. The sites were $5 for the site, $15 for an R/V site with water and electricity. There was a pavilion that looked nice, and lots of green spaces to run around in. There were some interesting things to look at around the park, like paintings and such. But a park alongside the river where you can't swim is kinda a letdown. I don't know how you'd be able to sleep with all the racket going on at the refinery next door. The refinery is constantly buzzing buzzers, releasing gases, running pumps, banging, beeping- it's a loud process to make gasoline.

In the hot summer the lake is the perfect place to cool down during the day. Down fall is they do not really have a camp store so stock up on what you need town is about 20 minutes away. As long as you like the outdoors you will love this park.
