Next, my lovely friends ordered some appys for us to share; Fried Steak Bites and Coconut Shrimp - both are pretty much my new favourites but what make them my fav is the mustard sauce to pair them with you'll need to ask for them specifically cause it only comes with hot sauce Next is the main course! I got Chicken Enchiladas but unfortunately it's not for me. I got a side of sweet potato fries which was pretty darn good cause it's really hard to have bad ones ended the meal with another drink called the Best Ever Rum Punche Love this one too One of my favourite restaurants in Saskatoon cause the atmosphere and service is always excellent! Two of us came for an unplanned, spontaneous supper. I ordered the Poblano Bowl, described as a bed of sweet potato fries, street corn, poblano pepper, bean mix, charred grape tomato, salsa, crema, quesa fresco and guacamole. It was really very good and I would certainly recommend it. All went well with a glass of Argentinian Malbec. Our server, Madison, was awesome. Was at Las Palapas for a quick supper on the patio. It wasn't too nice out, but the patio has heaters. It was a nice, quiet atmosphere with good music playing. We ordered drinks; I always get the fuzzy poncho, and my partner got the best ever rum punche. They arrived to our table within 3 minutes of ordering. Our food, which was amazing, also arrived super quickly. My favourite items on the menu are the sweet potatoes fries, coconut shrimp, enchiladas, and guacamole. We started with a really nice waitress that was knowledgeable and helpful. We asked a few questions about some of the dishes but always end up ordering the same thing. (My wife does as well) Coconut shrimp and sweet potato fries. Both of us. I've probably had them 20 times by now and they are always hot, perfectly cooked and delicious. As I've said before, I hate coconut and will run for miles to avoid it everywhere but at this place. When I was younger I would probably have ordered a burrito as a follow up act but in my 50's, the old boiler just doesn't have the capacity. It may have looked bleak outside but boy did a slight warm breeze immediately put itself up to barre out the prairie chill when my friend and went inside Las Palapas this past Saturday evening. Tropical charm (as mention on the restaurant's website) certainly describes the ambiance of the interior. There is a keen underwater theme gently drifting about on the walls and the chairs in form of large aquatic decors and even the the chair and some of the tables have this theme adorning them. After being greeted by the hostess the two of us were taken to table that gave us a good view of a good part of the restaurants. Mojitos are one of favorite drinks to get so that's what I order while my friend took a Pina Colada, both of which were brought over in glasses with some bright colors splashed on and served with paper straws which is the first time I've experienced this in an dining establishment and no I didn't get a visual experience to see it disintegrate into the drink As soon as we had a sip each of our drinks we were famished enough that we go straight to get our orders taken: a Chilied Pork Enchilada plate for myself and a Big Burrito for him. My friend's heaping sized Burrito came with a side of Mexican rice and his selection of beans. Both of us chose the refried beans for our sides and they went well our meals. My enchillada with the shredded braised pork filled was to die for. I just loved how the meat was so tender and just melted in my mouth with every bite and paired off with the refrien beans and the corn tortilla, the flavors mixed up well in my mouth. I definitely like being at Las Palapas and the make-believe underwater tropical dining experience was an experience to enjoy before the Christmas day on a cold Saskatoon night. read more

What a very unique ambiance. Very mexican with the bright colors and even a massive crucifix and rosary on the wall. There are several different vibes happening - patio, tiki bar, mexican adobe shack. They have amazing margaritas and for a party of 4 you can get the tower. The meals were okay. It was my favourite restaurant to visit in Saskatoon, now it really has become second rate! Ordered the fish tacos and only got a small bite of fish in each of the two tacos. Should rename then lettuce tacos because that's what I ate. Also server could care less, never checked in, never asked how my meal was. Or I would have shared this directly with them myself. This spot advertises Mexican food, me, as a Mexican was completely disappointed, the place is very nice and even though I didn't drink alcohol maybe the margaritas are spot on, but the food, I understand that due to the ongoing pandemic the variety might not be as much as it regularly is in regular days, I've never been to this place before so I don't know. But the food, although served in corn tortilla with the choice of flour tortilla.. (and even the vegan options) had nothing to do with Mexican food, over seasoned chicken and beef tacos, the chorizo has nothing to do with what any type of chorizo I've had (I could only taste the cumin.. to be honest couldn't finish the taco), when I asked the server very nicely said they make their own chorizo, guys from a Mexican.. get the recipe for the chorizo right (lay off the cumin)!!!... your image is good but the Mexican flavours aren't in your 4x24 dollar tacos at all. Guacamole is good though but again.. how can you mess mashed avocado right?. Service was good and restaurant look is nice but what people come to a restaurant for is the food. Las Palapas is hugely popular in Saskatoon, and I just don't get it. They're food is barely authentic and of middling value. Portions are big, yes, especially among burritos, but the flavours are often bland. The prices are acceptable but still slightly high for the fare. The atmosphere is lively and bright, and the service is excellent. The bar is also very popular. It is located close to Broadway but far enough that there is plenty of street parking around. If anything, the soups are probably the best deal here. read more

Hola Amigos! I have a sad story my friends, but it has a happy ending (this isn't a massage palor review btw). I had relocated back to Saskatoon in 2012 after leaving in 1989. For the previous 16 years my home base was in Scottsdale, AZ. That being said, I was used to some pertty good mexican food. I really missed Taco Bell! I kid amigo!!! But this poor hombre was so hungry for a nice Mexican Enchilada or some authentic tacos that I was about to go loco if I could not find any... Taco time is nice, but it's not real Mexican. EE Burrito's was close, but they lacked the flavor that was eluding me. La Bamba wasn't bad but the prices were a little loco amigo for what you got.. What was I to do...I had to pay French prices for Mexican food...where was I? Oh ya, Saskatoon. A tear forms. Amigos...please, don't shed a tear because this is where the story turns your frown upside down! I moved down by the old Victoria Bridge...I know Saskatoon has a lot of feelings toward that bridge...but this is a forum for food. Up the street from me was this great place and it was muy buena! Las Palapas does it up real nice with an awesome interior and great food with atmosphere that was lacking at other places...I know it's hard to do it right but Las Palapas does it right. I went there on a Taco Tuesday and really enjoyed the fresh ingredients and good service. I have been in the kitchen (not as a customer) and it is staffed by some really cool people who look really safe around food. Traditional Mexican Food, Vibrant & Tropical Vibe, Great Service & Authentic Charm! Las Palapas is a fantastic Mexican restaurant in Saskatoon serving a huge variety of traditional Mexican dishes. The interior is painted in bright colours and has uniquely Mexican decor, along with a tropical vibe and authentic charm. Eating at this restaurant made me feel like I had been transported to Mexico! I ate at Las Palapas twice during my four day stay in Saskatoon and ordered the beans and corn enchiladas (vegetarian and corn tortillas to make it gluten-free) with sides of Mexican rice and warm refried beans. The enchiladas tasted so delicious - flavourful and authentic. Having traveled extensively throughout Mexico's Yucatan, I can honestly say that these enchiladas tasted on par with those I ate in Mexico. The service was friendly and I loved the colourfully painted interior, the Spanish mariachi music playing quietly in the background, and the authentic Mexican vibe of the restaurant. The majority of their menu was gluten-free and there were a variety of vegetarian options as well. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling through Saskatoon and I am so looking forward to eating here again during my next visit to the city! The atmosphere is its key appeal, I love the Mexican architecture and overall feel for the restaurant the only negative is that the food doesn't blow me away... at all. Its okay food, but not a place that I would go out of my way to go to unless I was in the mood for Mexican food and wanted to go out for the atmosphere. I feel very back and forth about las Palapas - as an Arizona native. Mexican food has been a staple in my diet for life, and I've always loved authentic and even not so authentic. Some of the stuff I've had at las Palapas is SO GOOD. The beans are delicious, but the enchilada sauce is sooo disappointing. Honestly it tastes more like marinara sauce to me- which if you haven't had enchilada sauce before it isn't bad. But it's just... not right? We were greeted by a friendly host & seated right away as we had a res. Our waitress was also pleasant and knowledgable. We had drinks (good marguarita's) to start, then ordered. The menu is varied and they have most of the standard Mexican dishes but you have to order the main dishes and sides separately, which puts the price a little higher then you'd expect. The Chicken Enchilada's I had were just ok and my wifes quesadilla probably a little less so. To summarize, I'd say the service & drinks were excellent but the food value & quality brings the star value down. read more

The atmosphere is so fun and honestly does make you feel like you are in a Mexican resort in the dead of winter! The food is pretty good! Not the best in the entire world in terms of authenticity, but certainly unique and solid in terms of choice. They also have some creative drinks, and friendly service, so overall I liked it!
