My family and I stopped here for lunch on our way to see the hoodoos in Drumheller Alberta. Cute little spot, definitely has character. The building is from 1913 and there's old photos and knick knacks everywhere on the walls. The place was packed when we got there so we just ate outside. They have picnic tables with umbrellas which was actually really nice after being in the car for so long. Got the chicken fingers and fries, honestly so good. The fries were seasoned nicely and they give you a lot of food. The staff were really friendly and good with our kids too. The only thing I'd say is if your kids have a lot of energy, sit outside if you can. Inside is small and there's breakable stuff all over the walls so outside just gives them more space to be kids without you stressing. Came for dinner and was told it would be about a 30 minute wait. We were given a buzzer so they could alert us when the table was ready. Instead, after 40 minutes, the wait staff came out and told us and several other groups waiting that they were no longer able to serve us. So after a 15 minute drive out of Drumheller, a 40 minute wait, and we end up driving back to town with 3 hungry and tired kids. Never in my life has that happened. Worst service ever. Honestly this place is a tourist trap. Plenty of good restaurants right in town. If you want to risk it and lose 1.5 hours of your life, go ahead. But they are next level terrible. Located in the tiny town of Wayne, home to about 25 self proclaimed "diehard souls", through a winding mystical valley and 11 one lane bridges, each made of wooden planks, this saloon will completely transport you back in time! I was staying in Drumheller for work and didn't want the usual run of the mill. I had been to Last Chance years ago and remembered the food was great. It did not disappoint! Food is AMAZING! Service was great! Atmosphere was nice and laid back. I could hear people at other tables saying how much they loved their food too. The portions are very generous, I had the Brisket Mash. Half way thru I was full but couldn't stop eating it was so good! Places like this are harder and harder to find. What a gem! read more

Surprisingly amazing. Go hungry and bring friends. I've been to Last Chance Saloon four times now, and every time I bring someone new, I get the same reaction: "Wait... what is this place?" And then, by the end of the meal, "That was really good, thanks for bringing me here." The food is the real deal. The smoked meat is a must--honestly, it should come with a warning label for how addictive it is. Everything on the menu is delicious, generously portioned, and priced so reasonably I half expected someone to chase me down for forgetting to pay the rest. I even brought family from out of province, and they're still talking about it. (Mostly about the how great the food was... and the decor and maybe a small up charge for the water). Ah yes--the water. Don't ask for tap unless you want to be politely offered a bottle instead. They run on a well system, so it's bottles only, and yes, you'll be paying for it. Consider it part of the experience. Plus, it's cold and refreshing, and who really cares when you're in a really fun restaurant that crosses many bridges to get to. Getting to the Last Chance Saloon is a lot of fun and in my opinion, part of the experience. Service can be on the slower side, but you're in a busy little tourist town, not a drive-thru. The wait actually flies by thanks to the wonderfully odd decor. There's so much to look at, I've now spent more time analyzing the walls than I did choosing my meal. Food was good, atmosphere was neat. I liked my tea, the hot sauces, ribs, corn bread, corn and whatnot. The mac 'n' cheese was mediocre and I found the chicken dry. The patio was nice, and my kid got a colouring book to colour in. Indoors is noisier and kitschy compared to the patio. The saddle seats for the outdoor bar are neat. Water is costly as they don't have potable running water. This place is touristy. Worth a visit once. read more

It's funny because years ago I stayed at the Rosedeer Hotel, right next to the Last Chance Saloon in Wayne, but I never went into the Saloon. I remember hearing some live music, but my friends (whom I was traveling with) thought the saloon looked too scary to go inside. On my last visit to Drumheller I decided to go to Wayne and check out the Last Chance Saloon for myself. Honestly, the name Last Chance Saloon might make it seem like you could walk into the middle of a wild west shootout, but anything could be further from the truth. Maybe back in the day this was the case, but today this is just a fun and quirky pub and restaruant. Food is pretty standard burgers and sandwiches. I had heard about a grill your own steak, but I didn't see that on the menu. Instead I just got myself a grilled cheese sandwich, because I wasn't super hungry, but I wanted to come in and give this restaurant a try. The service here was friendly and very good. The food wasn't outstanding, but it was good. Then again I think it's pretty hard to mess up something as simple as a grilled cheese sandwich. I got a pepsi to drink...if I wasn't driving maybe I would've ordered a double whiskey or something more wild west-ish. The fun part about Last Chance Saloon is the decor, the giant shuffleboard table, the sign saying "we don't take bills larger than $2," the 1940s bandbox (get your server to play it for you...it's kind of fun). Wayne is jus a short drive from Drumheller and definitely worth a detour. Next time I'd like to come in the evening while they've got live music. read more

Nothing better than a night at the Last Chance Saloon! I was lucky enough to party at the saloon 3 times in 2014, each time we stayed overnight in the hotel upstairs - so good! The service from Paula & Dave is amazing, they are both so friendly and fun! The burgers are to die for (i've had both the normal cheeseburger and the bison burger), and on New Years Eve everyone was treated to a delicous buffet on the house! Make sure to keep an eye on their facebook page for updates on bands that are playing, or karaoke nights, or whatever other awesome event they have planned! I'm already planning my next visit! This is a really cool old fashioned restaurant that looks like it's from pioneer days. There are pelts and folksy items on the wall and the seating area is small. We went because we saw they had bison burgers but it's crossed off the menu so not sure if it's temporarily or permanently 86'ed. I got the knucklehead burger with a side salad and it was delicious! The special sauce is quite yummy. The only drawback was our waiter. She wasn't very friendly and I overheard her saying rude things to other patrons. An elderly gentleman asked what was on tap and then declined and asked for a different beer. The waitress brought him the one on tap and he said "oh no I said I didn't want that." She curtly took it away and when she came back she said "you'll just have to speak more clearly from now on, okay?" in a condescending tone. Last Chance Saloon. More like, No Chance Saloon! Rode the bike out on a beautiful day with the intention of having a drink and lunch here. I had never been and my Hubs has been a couple of times. I guess it is one of those day trips everyone needs to do because it is a really cool idea. We arrived on a hot summer day looking forward to the break. We went to the 'patio' (a grassy area with picnic tables) and sat down. After some time we finally got some service and she informs us the kitchen is closed. Closed? At lunch time? Apparently they were having some work done and the kitchen was out of service. Meanwhile, we watch others enjoy their lunch... Since we were already there we decided to have a quick drink before we hit the road to find sustenance. There were 3 of us and we ordered 3 drinks. The total came to $15.00 so I gave her a $20 bill and she came back with my change, a $5.00 bill. Then she just stood there expecting me to tip her the $5.00. We rode out here to eat, no chance. This saloon is located in the town of Wayne, about a 15 minute drive from Drumheller. To get to the saloon, you drive over 9 one lane bridges. You then arrive in the town of Wayne. From what I can tell, its commercial district pretty much IS this saloon. When we got there there were about 60 motorbikes parked outside. We walked into a scene straight from a movie. The place was packed, noisy, and the beer was flowing. To eat we had a 12 ounce steak for $17 bucks. The catch? You cook it yourself, and no substitutions. Definitely worth the drive. When you walk in here, you don't know what to look at first as there is so much stuff adorning the walls and the ceiling. I was also still counting bridges. Oh look an upside down black bear skin, is that a coal miner's hat? IS THAT A GIANT SHUFFLEBOARD TABLE? What are those wooden band puppets? We got the answer to the wooden puppets as that is an original band box, and the only one that survives in Canada. They played it for us patrons twice while we were there. Make sure you yell YEEE-HAW with the staff as it starts up. I don't know how the black bear came to be. The servers were so friendly, we all got ID'd, I felt like I was actually in Fargo rather than Alberta due to the amount of 'hun's' being uttered. My friend ordered Pilsner, the waitress told her she calls it weasel piss. We then decided it should be called Bunny piss, since there are rabbits on the label. Anyways! It's so cool in here! We didn't eat here, just drank. Nothing unique on tap, but c'mon, what else do you expect in rural Alberta. I was shocked they had a Big Rock beer. We were all encouraged to sign the guest book. I once had a tour escort explain to me what it meant when a hotel was described in a brochure as having "character". She said it was past it's prime and seen better days. That's about how I'd describe the Last Chance Saloon. It's got lots of history and a checkered past, all of which is displayed somewhere on the wall. We were handed a photocopy of the story telling the history of the place and the owner seemed quite willing to answere any question or spin his own tales. So for that it would get a 5/5. The service is good, fast when we were there but it wasn't that busy. The furniture is a mish mash of 70s tavern tables & chairs. The food, however, meh, I've had better. We each had the special mozza burger with fries & caesar salad. Everything was from a package, bottle or the freezer.The beer, served in mason jars, was cold and refereshing. Not to miss when in the Drumheller area. Cool place, takes you back in time to the coal mining days where things were so different. Go and read the newspaper articles, look at all of the artifacts on shelves and take in the bullet holes in the back wall that were eventually framed. 3 men in the 70's thought it would be prudent to order drinks and not pay. Lawrence, the owner of the bar at that time was not having it! 3500 motorcycle enthusiasts come through here in the summer as it is on the bike route and it is said to get very busy. There is camping on site and the saloon is connected to the old hotel that has rooms to stay in. Friendly staff, welcoming and informative of just went down here so long ago! I just had 1 drink (love the mason jars!) but there were others there ordering food (fast food stuff) and it smelled good. Everything was decently priced. As old as the place is (1913) it is clean and well maintained, even the washrooms. We were in the bar at least an hour just looking at everything and taking it all in. I would love to come back one day in the warmer months and sit outside. Follow the 11 Bridges route and at the end of the line, you will see the saloon on the right hand side. This is a great little place and a piece of history! For food we split the Appetizer tray - $27 and filled with veggies, zucchini sticks, fried mushrooms, onion rings, wings, and mozza sticks. All frozen and fried, but it's a pub! The food is nothing special - but the atmosphere and the history are amazing. Worth the drive up from Calgary (90 min) just to come and check it out. The beer is also really great. The only thing on tap is called "black label" it is a strong beer so 6-8%, but still a light beer, and very tasty. Served in a Mason Jar! I didn't try the BBQ your own steak, but it looks pretty neat. Maybe next time. They also had shuffle board and pool, and a cute little hotel that you can stay the night at for $55. I'm also told if you stay at the hotel there is a spot you can light a camp fire and chill out for the evening. Oh lastly I will mention there is no cell signal here! At least not for Telus. My mom was visiting me last weekend from Ontario and we wanted to do something a little different (we usually go to Banff). We decided to go out to Drumheller. We went to the Tyrell museum which was great! Very interesting and crazy to think so many dinosaurs lived in this area! I looked on yelp to find somewhere to eat and the Last Chance Saloon came up. It's a really cool place! They give you a guest book and information about the saloon and town. We loved it there and we will definitely be back! My mother had pirogies with sausage and she loved it. When asked what we should do on our road trip out to Drumheller, we received an overwhelming response for driving over the 11 Bridges to Wayne for a pint in a mason jar. And so we did. Wayne once had a population of 2,490. It's now down to 26. I think half of them were hangin' out in the Last Chance Saloon when we arrived. The interior is decorated with all kinds of memorabilia from a old school large circular Coca Cola sign to newspaper clippings to many a poster talking about the benefits of beer. Also, I'm not sure any of the tables and chairs matched. It's a character spot alright. Food. It's cheap. Made on the spot? I'm not so sure. But who can complain when the beef meat pie is only $6.95? Of course, it went with the only beer on tap, Black Label, that does indeed come served in a mason jar. Bonus: Parts of Shanghai Noon were filmed here. Also, I didn't read about this until after returning home, but it appears if you order a steak, it's up to you to cook it yourself! Still true? Not sure! After spending the afternoon exploring the hoodoo's, coal mine and suspension bridge; we took the drive out highway 10x to check out the Last Chance Saloon. We had a great time on the winding road out to the saloon. Take your time to enjoy the scenery and count the bridges along the way. Once we arrived we were surprised by the old style saloon and hotel (which is operational if you want to spend a night). The inside of the restaurant is full of artifacts and pictures. We spent a lot of time looking over everything. Including three bullet holes from a gun fight many years ago. The menu is not large but there where enough options for us to enjoy. Everything from burgers, to fish, to meat pies, fresh salads, and deep fried zucchini. We found that not everything on the menu was available. So it's best to ask right away as there is always a daily special. My 6yr old enjoyed a cheeseburger and fries, the burger was homemade and the fries were amazing (from the boy that would eat fries everyday. My 11yr old had the fish sticks and fries, she said mom it's real fish a whole fillet not minced fish. I tried a chicken meat pie and fresh salad. The meat pie was more than I could eat and definitely not a "frozen dinner". When I say fresh salad, I mean lettuce from the garden out back, covered in cucumbers and tomatoes. For those with families you can stop by for a great meal before 8pm. The staff informed me that most nights through the summer they try and have local live entertainment in the evening. We were looking forward to having lunch here after the lady in the Drumheller Tourist Info talked it up as a good family-friendly resto with an interesting drive through 11 bridges. When we got to the resto, we waited 20 minutes for a menu. Some of us whiled away the time looking at the interesting decor. We were trying to be understanding when one of the waitresses seem to be having problems with the Order Terminal and the other waitress was helping her out leaving no one else on the floor to care for the diners. This is one of those eclectic places that you have to stop in and see. When we get family visiting the number one request after taking them there on their initial visit is can we please go back to the Last Chance Saloon. There are 11 bridges in 6 Kms to get there which is fun to get the kids to count. When there ask the bartender to turn on the music box it is a treat as it is very old and unique. Also look for the bullet holes on the wall and see if someone will tell you the story. I grew up in that area and know it...the key is always pay your tab. I've never been there but it looks like an interesting place. saw the Canadian pickers episode featuring the saloon and it looks like even though the owner wanted to sell some stuff to Sheldon and scott he just couldn't. it was probably a wonderful experience to be there but for a picker who makes his living buying and selling things it was probably a waste of time. doubt I wlll ever visit but its good to see photos and video of the place. read more

This place was wonderful! Stayed in the hotel over the weekend and the only complaint I have is the bed was too loud and a little uncomfortable. The staff was super friendly! Everything was laid back. We had some great drinks, amazing food ( the pot pie!!!) and a great band was playing on the Saturday night. There was something interesting to look at everywhere you turned! Make sure you don't mind being a little shut off from the world when you come here! There is no cell service and the free wifi is a little spotty. But you're in badlands country!!! read more
