Soy latte and amazing apple pie
    Megan S.

Cute atmosphere. Wonderful staff. Had Apple Pie and Soy Latte. Soy was unsweetened which was great. Gave me glass of water with coffee too which was nice. One of the few places in city that gave out water. Apple pie loaded with fresh apples. No sugar/junk filler. Really nice fresh texture and flavor. Free WiFi too :) A quaint stop. If you like organic, fresh, authentic places... visit here.

This is a very unique place....the environment is eclectic but the service is really nice. We ordered the goat for dinner. Like the restaurant itself, the meal was unique, with an interesting combination of lotus root and other things. While the food wasnt outstanding, we enjoyed the uniqueness of it. We also ordered a cappuccino and a decaf latte, and both were very good.

My boyfriend and I decided to give Latei a try one afternoon. We had the appeltaart at Winkel 43 and he had been craving one ever since. A quick Yelp search revealed that Latei happened to be located in the area we were roaming about, and they had the appeltaart! We were in luck! Or so we thought... It was definitely not as good. The filling had raisins in it, the crust was hard, and it didn't even taste that great overall. Maybe their other items are better, I can't speak to that. But if you want an appeltaart and you're in this area, you should just make the trek to Winkel 43.

Incredibly cozy, local cafe. Don't let the location in the RLD dissuade you. Super delicious homemade food (lots of plant-based options) and great coffee. The space itself is also one of the best for meeting a small group, catching up with a friend, of just going alone to draw or do work. Lots of locals and interesting characters around Staff is incredible, helpful and cheery. Haven't visited since 4 years to find all the same charm and spirit in tact. I make it a point to stop by here every time I'm in town, glad to see them still in business. They accept chip card and cash, with free wifi. As well, all the decorations and objects you see throughout the shop are available for purchase. You will not regret stopping by

De Wallen Cute coffee place that is worth a visit when in the neighborhood. The vintage atmosphere there is very nice and the objects you see inside are for sale. Interesting lamps. They serve (good) Bocca coffee and pastries, breakfast which are home made. I know because the smell of cooking can came too strong in some moments. And if you choose a table at the upper level you could see the tarts coming out of the kitchen. Friendly staff and most of all friendly cat house.

Cute little hybrid between a cafe' and a flea market. Very close to the red light district, in the cafe' everything is for sale, from the cappuccino to the cake, through to the chairs you sit on and the lamps on the ceiling (and perhaps the waiters as well? LOL). The place is very original and the cakes were gooooooood.

    Cute decor!

I lOVE LATEI's decor! So retro! So colorful! And they have a black cat, just hanging out there. It's a very fun place to have break with their coffee and some sweets. Their Dutch apple pie was OK. But they serve loose leaf tea. It was really nice. The coffee was good, too. I'd like to try their breakfast menu next time. I will go back there for sure.

    Breakfast Special

Love this place - clearly a local joint. Reminds me of one of the first coffeeshops/Cafes I fell in love with in the US called EVP. Having the breakfast special - Cheese and tomato on a wonderful hardy bread, fresh squeezed OJ, croissant, and latte all for 9 Euros. Oh there is at least one shop cat I saw asleep on somebody's computer sleeve. There is free wifi - the service is fantastic. It appears that many of the fixtures, do dads, etc adorning the shop are for sale. This place is funky and I like it!

Good coffee in a cute, retro little cafe with a sweet little cat sleeping on the windowsill :). We stopped in on a rainy day and enjoyed two really good lattes. Perfect temperature, smooth, and no sugar necessary. Relaxing, cozy spot that's definitely worth a stop.

This is a quirky little cafe tucked into an unassuming spot on Zeedijk. With mismatched chairs, and novelties everywhere, Latei has a distinctly bohemian feel to it. Their is a black cat that wanders around, who I'm assuming from the "Elvis does not leave the building" signs, must be called Elvis. The food is simple enough, with lots of light fair and some organic offerings. I've only been for lunch, but I understand they have a dinner menu that changes all the time and I've very interested in trying it. They also offer lots of fresh pressed juices that are all very tasty! The prices are incredibly reasonable (3-5 euros for sandwiches; about the same for an omelet) and the staff is all very friendly too. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite little lunch spots.

Which makes me wonder... do faeries claim nationalities? I hope not. There's a minuscule indoor seating area, but come spring and summer - as long as it's not raining - you'll want to move on back to the very leafy and verdant outdoor terrace. If you're lucky, the one table that gives you rain protection but is still technically outdoors will be available. I was lucky. And it did sprinkle while I was there. I can't speak to the food. I only had fresh mint tea, served with honey and a teensy cookie. Let me tell ya... it was the day after Amsterdam's hottest day in recorded history and the entire city was just tuckered out. Feeble even. That's why I asked for ice and made my hot tea into an iced mint tea. Re-freshing! The menu offerings are limited but apparently satisfying judging from my dining companions' happy faces. The two women caring for us were terrific about setting the friendly tone. While it functions as a cozy, traditional Dutch brown café, virtually everyone comes here for one main reason: the famous Dutch apple pie (*appeltaart*). It completely lives up to the reputation. Served warm with a massive dollop of fresh whipped cream, it's thick, perfectly spiced, and has an almost cake-like crust that sets it apart. Pairing a slice with a fresh mint tea is pretty much mandatory. Because of its status and location, it's almost always buzzing with people--especially on market days--but the staff manages the perpetual queue remarkably fast. I'd say about 95% of the people were ordering the apple pie, so of course we had to get one to see what the hype was about. The apple pie is pretty unique, it's basically a big chunk of cooked apple topped with a sweet, crumbly cookie like crust. The flavor reminded me of those little brown biscuits you get as airplane snacks... basically Biscoff cookies. lol!!! Overall, you really taste the natural apple flavor along with that Biscoff like cookie flavor. The pie itself isn't very sweet, which I actually liked, but adding some whipped cream definitely brings up the sweetness and makes it even better.
