I do not feel my review is misleading, as I am honest with all my reviews However, perhaps I am blunt, but I tell it as it is without fluff. First off, I am aware of the wonderful photos in their portfolio based on reviews from yelp, their website and wedding wire. That is the reason why reached out to Dove Photography for a price quote. Yes, they were one of the cheaper ones, based on the quality of their photos, but honestly, why wouldn't you look to see what bids you can get before deciding on vendor? As a business owner, Scott should have asked what type of event it was and what type of shots I wanted before offering a price. Yes, it does sound extravagant when he says it was a wedding reception, but honesty, I only hired him during cocktail hour for 1 hour. In regards to timeline and saying I mislead him. Here is the timeline: 11/20/17-I reached out to get a quote for my event on 12/30/31 and received a quick response that same day from Scott saying he had availability with a price and asked for more details on what type of event I was having and types of shots I wanted. 11/21/17-I told him I would like to book him for the event and provided this info: "We'd like some family photos and candid photos during the cocktail hour." I felt at this point it was very clear there would be poised photos of people and not just candid shots. Note that no contract was signed yet. 12/5/17-Scott sent us the contract. Delay was due to the thanksgiving holidays and he was on vacation, which were aware of since he gave us a heads up early on that he would not be available for a week, which I was ok with. My husband had a question about the contract and Scott did answer us promptly. Nowhere on the contract did it say no poised photos and only candid photos. 12/24/17- My husband and I were proactive and sent Scott a list of group photos, detail shots and candid shots I wanted. As you can see, Scott had a few opportunities to ask for a higher price for the session if it was not what he expected, and I would have been fine with it, but he did not. As for arrival time, I am a stickler for people arriving on time. I am 100% sure they were not on time, as I was waiting around for a while and checking my phone every few minutes at our agreed upon time. My husband was upstairs paying our venue at the time. Perhaps they did arrive 5 mins before the scheduled time, but were in the parking lot unloading gear. I had just assumed the full hour we paid for were for photos and not set up time. In regards to the angle of the photos, I had a wall available for our group to stand in front of, that I actually had the restaurant clear tables for us. However, the Doves suggested they take it with a view of the restaurant for better depth. Which I agreed to, because they are the professionals and do this for a living. Plus, Scott had disclosed in previous emails that he was familiar with our venue as well. However, not only myself, but most of my guests agreed the photos were unflattering angles of everyone. This is just giving an honest review of my thoughts on the photos along with my guests' thoughts that they had shared with me when they viewed the photos. Overall, I thought I was pretty honest and clear with my review and generous with my 4 stars. My recommendation to the Doves and future customers is maybe clearer communication in the beginning so both parties would know what to expect in order to get the great photos that are on the Dove Photography website.

Dove was reasonably priced (we only needed them for one hour) and local, so we booked. Scott and his wife were punctual and arrived sharply dressed and ready to work on the day of our event. They had actually photographed at the venue before, so they had a rough idea of where we should pose. They used the list of photos we wanted taken and were very good at remembering people's names and lining up everyone. The photos came out very high-res (the ones of the cake looked really good, and I liked the ones with my family), and were delivered via e-mail right on schedule (Scott advised they'd be ready end of week, they arrived late Thursday). My only small comment is that I wish they could have taken some of the shots at a higher angle; my wife and I were just a tad bit let down that we looked a little unflattering in some of the shots (I should have asked to check the first few pictures to make sure they were not too close up or low). Oh well--the quality, timeliness, and professionalism of this company overrules my small comment. Book with confidence! If I do another event in NJ, I'd use them again.

Unfortunately, this is not all that a business professional is rated on. I kind of thought from the beginning that Erica was a bit unprofessional. I tried to put that out of my mind because she was very cost effective and her photos were stunning. Every contact I had with her, it just seemed like she didn't have her stuff together. Our engagement session was pretty good. Not many complaints about that. The real problems started at the wedding. While me and my bridesmaids were getting ready, she asked my maid of honor when she was due. My MOH is not pregnant. Everyone (women especially!!) should know that you NEVER EVER EVER ask a woman if she is pregnant. She almost made my MOH cry. the last thing I needed on this stressful day was to comfort my MOH. I wish it had ended there. I tried to defend Erica sayin "Maybe you misheard her" but later in the day another friend who was there reiterated what was said, and there was no misunderstanding. We went outside to take pictures in the vineyards and it was extremely hot (for late october) and uncomfortable. We wanted to get these pictures over ASAP. We were also being swarmed by bees and two of our wedding party attendants are extremely allergic. We kept telling Erica that we wanted to move and she kept insisting we stay where we are because the pics were coming out great. We appreciate the great pictures but a bridesmaid in the hospital would've made for a bad day. After about 30-40 minutes of pictures my feet (i hate heels so much that I actually walked down the aisle barefoot) were absolutely screaming and I was getting very cranky. My makeup was running and my dress weighed 50 million pounds and I just wanted to take a break before the ceremony. Erica literally whined saying that she wanted to go take pictures in the wine caves. When I said "no, i really need to take a break" she practically stomped her feet and pouted saying "Oh come onnnnn, lets go take pictures in the wine caves!!" My husbands groomsman stepped in and said "no, when the bride says we're done, we're done." She backed off on the wine caves point, but continued to try to get more pictures. Later in the evening she came up to me whining because the Wedding coordinator said that vendors (photorapher, dj, etc.) usually ate after the wedding guests finished and she wanted to eat "NOW" and I needed to go tell the wedding coordinator that. It isn't so much her complaint that bothers me (it was a valid complaint), but I was the WRONG person to come to. There were 3 bridesmaids and a mother of the groom she could have discussed it with instead. The rest of the issues of the night didn't become apparent to me until months later. My boss told me that he was standing next to Erica while she was taking pictures of the grandmas and Erica turned to him and said "Gotta get the pictures of the grandmas! Who knows when they'll kick off" ...Seriously. My boss is one of the most honest people I've ever known in my life and he wouldn't lie about that. In the weeks leading up to me getting my photos erica e-mailed me to say that they were almost done and I can mail my final check to her address. I had paid her in full on the day of the wedding per her demands! If I had known I could've waited till I got my pictures I would've done that. Then she sent another mass e-mail to me and a bunch of other brides called "THE LAST CHECK" saying "I hope you liked your photos. Please send your next check to X" To which I responded AGAIN, I already paid you! Once I finally received my pictures, I asked her how she would handle my book. If she was going to choose the photos, if I was going to choose them, etc. And she said "Please choose 60 photos, put them on a disc, mail them back along with your final check" I PAID MY EFFING BILL ALREADY!! And no, I'm not gonna make another damn CD and mail it back to you and wait another 3 months for an apple iphoto book. I'll do it myself. I also realized while searching through my photos that no pictures were captured of my husband when he first saw me coming down the aisle. Very depressing. Technically I paid for a Trash the dress session (which she does fabulously) and the apple iphoto book but I am just done. I have 3 friends getting married in the near future and they all asked me for a recommendation of a good photographer. I have told them all that I really wish I could have recommended mine, but the unprofessionalism just isn't worth the hassle. It's such a shame because her photos are absolutely out of this world (that is what the 2 stars are for) Erica really needs to work on her professionalism. You can be friendly and cool and professional at the same time.

Erica Berger's work is absolutely eye catching and stunning. Being engaged to a photographer…read moremyself, I can truly appreciate her artistic approach to her work. One thing I will not appreciate is her lack of professionalism. I heard about Erica from a client who had really amazing shots from her wedding. My client told me what she had paid for her to shoot her wedding which made my mouth drop because it was perfect for someone who is on a tight budget. I contacted her through email sometime in August 2007 in regards to her services. I also had found a craiglist ad that she had posted to shoot weddings at a starting price of $600. GREAT PRICE... When I emailed her in regards to it and let her know my date she told me it was booked already and that the price posted in her ad was for 2007 prices and that it would double for 2008. FINE $1200 for a photographer I would willingly pay at least $3000 for her work. NOT A PROBLEM. A week or two later I got a message on my voice mail stating that she wasn't booked until she was paid. "HMMMM....*red flag* kinda weird." I called her or emailed her back and ask her about a deposit half up front to book the date and half after the date or a week prior. Which is the usual contractual agreements with all photographers. I thought it was fair enough. Well 2008 rolls around and here I am starting to really plan for my wedding this June. I contacted her right before the end of the year and she had mentioned that the date wasn't booked yet and that we could set up a consult. We set up a consultation date and a week prior to the date she's booked on my day of the wedding. I was truly disappointed because I would've loved her to shoot at the wedding. She seems like a cool chick and I love being able to help out people who are starting in their industry and career of choice. At the same time, I felt really shitted on. When you schedule a consult with a new client at least mention that you have a possibility that the date may be potentially booked prior. I understand its first come first serve, but let someone know that you might be booked already and don't even bother to set up a consult with a client for the same date.
