I was seated on a large couch and we were ready to begin. Michelle has a number of props to use, and seems to focus on natural lighting (which is probably the best in my unprofessional opinion.) There are several widows lining the studio with a white sheer curtain which sets the backdrop for several of the photos. In addition to this, she has really big expensive lights that she does some pro-looking photographer stuff with. The thing that comes to mind is those Cover Girl commercials where they're doing a photo shoot (duh Michael.) There are also different pattern backdrops and small props such as crazy stripper high-as-hell heels and other cool stuff. Michelle and her assistant will combine their artistic vision + experience with your desires and vision. We saw the untouched up photos today and were happy with several of them. We found her portfolio online, and loved her editing style, so we set up a FaceTime. In our first call, she worked to understand our personalities and goals for the final product. It was immediately clear to us that we wanted her for our wedding. From then on, she demonstrated great communication which made the whole planning process simple, straight forward, and easy to execute for my wife and I. The moment she arrived on site with her team, they got to work and made us feel safe on our wedding day. Personally, I feel that taking photos can feel awkward under pressure, but Ting Yi completely relieved that pressure and made sure we got the perfect shots. During the bride-groom sessions she always created a comfortable, fun, natural environment. During group photos she made sure to keep everyone in check, which we told her was important for us considering we have a big family with certain people that don't play nice. For the videos, we loved the 1min trailer, 5min highlight, and documentary video. They brought a drone which got super cool shots, they had us mic'd up for important moments, and edited the final products to tell a beautiful story that lets us remember some of our favorite moments forever. I loved the representation of their work on their website and felt like they would be able to capture the types of images my husband and I were interested in. I put in a request online for information and heard back within 24 hours from Trina. She called me to answer questions and explain their packages. This phone call immediately set her apart from the other photographers I had reached out and I appreciated the phone call as opposed to a form email or the reiteration of website language into an email. Unfortunately due to scheduling issues, we weren't able to work with her for the maternity shoot but as my due date approached I made sure to contact Trina and schedule our newborn session. This is where she won me over all over again. In our conversation, Trina explained to me in detail how the shoot would work and what to expect. I felt immediately at ease when she explained that sometimes the shoots are challenging and if we faced any challenges with the baby, not to panic, she would reschedule to come back on another day. I thought this was amazing and showed her understanding of how to work with her subjects as well as how to manage new parents. She booked two dates with me in accordance to my due date and we planned to be in touch when I delivered. For the shoot, Trina came to our apartment (her suggestion and no extra cost) which helped us tremendously since the baby was only 6 days old! She was just as lovely in person as over the phone - very professional, careful, respectful and so gentle with the baby. She brought with her some props and a backdrop so once we decided on our set ups, we were able to start the shoot. I can't express enough what a pleasure she was to work with. My husband and I both felt totally comfortable with her energy - her skill set was obvious in her handling of the baby and when we needed breaks, she almost seemed to disappear to give us privacy and time to soothe the baby. I knew as the shoot was happening that the photos would be phenomenal because of how relaxed we all felt. Our proofs came exactly 2 weeks after the shoot (as promised) and they did not disappoint. Trina captured some of the most amazing images of our family. I truly loved them all. We are beyond thrilled with our experience as well as the results. And boy are we glad we went with them. What they managed to capture of our family and our daughter was a really intimate view into our lives and her tiny magical world. All of the photos are just drenched in lovely ambient light and have a really dreamy cast to them that qualifies this time of our lives and our baby's. I've never seen my baby laugh so much for so long, Monkeys and Peas knew all the tricks! This was something totally out of my comfort zone as I am and always have been very self conscious of my body but it was a great opportunity to try and overcome that while providing my husband with a unique and special gift. Once I got in the room with Irina I felt good, still self conscious but she was so sweet and accommodating that I trusted her completely. She could tell how nervous I was so we kept it simple but by the end (with the help of Sade on the iPod) I felt like a goddess! We ended up with the most gorgeous, tastefully sexy photos, they were better then I could've hoped for. I discovered a "Diamond In The Rough" in Bushwick Brooklyn through a referral. It was Iris, a photographer who sat with me for about 20 minutes before the shoot, getting to know me and my vision. The time we spent together chatting, built a sense of trust, she knew what I wanted from the photo session. We came up with ideas we both could agree upon. I knew my ask was unusual. I had a horrific past 6 years, back-to-back trauma. I loathe having my picture taken. I never know what to do with my body or face or anything, so self conscious. I hurt my face. Had 10 stiches a couple of weeks prior and I wanted to show all of that, I didn't want to hide anything. I wanted to express an authentic me. Scars and all. My candids are the best usually when I'm not "trying.. I don't wear makeup. I'm simplistic . But she displayed me as simply beautiful. She made me feel beautiful. I love entirely how she has a great listening ear, she makes you feel heard, yet she pushes to get the best out of you. She set the right tone with simple props, with the Wardrobe I chose to wear, to communicate my message. Her skills captured me in a way that I couldn't have done without her. And I could tell she enjoyed the collaborative process. I received professional feedback from my artsy friends and family ,, they all agreed she "nailed it". But for a few hours on a tuesday afternoon, it was! I found Sophie's website and immediately thought "I MUST DO THIS". I needed some professional photos for my website and things anyway, so it was the perfect excuse. Do you associate pin up with avant-garde jazz? No, but Sophie created pictures that were appropriate for all occasions but still had a definite pin up flavor. The shoot itself was amazing. I felt so comfortable, which for me is a huge deal (camera + stranger + low self esteem = disaster). Sophie is really gifted as a photographer and makeup artiste, and to top it off, she's probably the nicest person ever. If you need some hot pictures and/or a self esteem overhaul, go see Sophie ASAP!
