Specialties
My specialty is creating high‑quality early childhood learning environments where children feel inspired, supported, and deeply connected to their natural curiosity. As a former National Family Childcare Provider of the Year, I bring decades of experience, ongoing higher education, and a commitment to best practices in early childhood education.
I design spaces that encourage nature exploration, child‑led discovery, and meaningful relationships. My approach supports the whole child socially, emotionally, academically, and physically while also honoring the joy and wonder that make early learning so powerful.
Families consistently share that their children feel at home here, and many graduates return to visit or volunteer as they grow older. These lasting connections reflect the care, trust, and community that truly define my work.
History
Established in 1995.
Laura’s Learn and Play Nature School began as a collaboration with early childhood colleagues who encouraged me to pursue my dream. I opened my first traditional preschool and child‑care program in 1995, and after moving to Fort Collins in 2004, I shifted to a Reggio‑inspired, nature‑based approach.
For more than 25 years, guiding children and partnering with families has been one of my greatest joys. I’m deeply grateful for the mentors, opportunities, and relationships that have shaped this work.
Meet the Business Owner: Laura R.
It’s a true joy to work with families in this community and walk alongside children as they grow, explore, and discover their place in the world. Thank you for considering Laura’s Nature School for your child’s early learning journey. My program is built around the everyday magic children naturally bring to the world. I believe learning should feel alive, full of sensory experiences, intuition, compassion, and connection. Nature‑based learning helps children understand themselves, their families, their community, and the natural world with empathy and awareness. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, children learn through inquiry and exploration drawing inspiration from what interests each of them. The emergent curriculum meets state guidelines. My goal is to help children discover their strengths, feel confident in who they are, and feel valued in an inclusive, connected community.
