DISCLAIMER: I know nothing of the staff and services other than Dr. SUSAN M. WEST. DO NOT see this provider. She is lazy, dismissive, and lacks the compassion for womens health needed in this field of medicine. My girlfriend has battled what we now know is endometriosis since she was a teenager. Her mother also had endometriosis. Dr(used loosely) West refused to address her symptoms and provide definitive testing, instead band-aiding her pain with flexeril. She told my girlfriend, "You should only be having pain for 24hrs, that should be manageable." Let me be clear: I understand that pain is dependent on the person and that every person handles it differently, however, I have watched her, down on all fours, sobbing because the pain was so terrible. The pain has been so intense that she has had to cancel events, call out of work, and miss multiple functions every month. Today I sit in the waiting area as she has a total hysterectomy as well as an oophorectomy to remove her reproductive organs including both ovaries. She will require estrogen supplements from this point forward. She's barely 30. SHE'S. BARELY. 30. Her endometriosis was so bad and scarring so extensive that it had adhered to her bowel tissue. This is a disease process that takes years to progress to this magnitude. We were only able to get a second opinion a couple of months ago and surgery was scheduled emergently because she also had 2 cysts large enough that they were in danger of rupturing. Thank God for second opinions and healthcare providers who actually listen. SHE should be paying for this surgery. This surgery that should have been a couple of hours that has lasted more than 6 now. This surgery that is life changing and didn't have to be if only Susan West had cared to do more testing like she was asked to do over and over again. Update: What should have been a 2hr surgery turned into a 7hr surgery with my girlfriends new OB (Dr. Sarah Jones of Asheville Womens-Wonderful, by the way, would give 100 stars) and obstetrical surgery team saying that her case was the worst case of endometriosis they have seen to date. What took years of begging, only to be dismissed by Dr(Used sarcastically) Susan M. West, was fixed in 3 months with a change in provider. read more

I have had the best experience with Laurel OBGYN. Dr. West, my former doctor, retired. She took time and care with each visit. Dr. Summer Gilmer is now my doctor and has been just as wonderful. It is such a comfort to know I'm seen as a person and not a patient number. Bedside manner goes a long way in a world we live in. I would check NO stars if I could! I go in for my annual and bloodwork for hormones and other stuff. The lady only shows A1C for a blood test. I clearly have everything written in my chart portal by the nurse Leah. I asked for them to check my chart and was put in a room. The office manager came in and said I hear you think we are incompetent so we are not comfortable seeing you. I was fired! So I walked out. I said I was crabby because I hadn't had anything to eat or my morning coffee. Don't speak your mind there - and mind you I was not yelling at anyone - or you will get let go. So bottom line is absolutely NO ACCOUNTABILITY for not keeping their records straight. No apology. No "let's make this right"!! Very poor business decorum. I love this place and the people who work here. While I cannot speak for the experiences of anyone who has given a negative review, I'm honestly shocked that they have. I've been through quite a journey with Laurel OBGYN, including two healthy pregnancies and births, and a very difficult miscarriage. I have an extensive history of sexual abuse in my past, and I have never felt mistreated, looked past, or uncared for with anyone at Laurel OBGYN. I've seen most of their providers since I started coming here in 2021. I've been here quite a bit, for various issues that are not always straightforward or easy to talk about. But every time, I have been met with compassion, attentive listening, and a thorough medical approach. I felt the need to write this review because, in my experience, I have never even had to consider choosing a different OBGYN office. This place and the people are a gem. They were so sweet and caring, however I didn't like the lady's at the front desk much they would tell you how much you owed loud enough for everyone to here and just seemed quite rude to me. I have been with Laurel OBGYN since 1998. I've experienced difficulties with pregnancies and eventually had three babies with Laurel. Both Dr West and Dr McArthur have been my primary doctors over the years. They both have gone above and beyond to comfort me when sad and celebrate joys with me. At 51 years old I now have different needs and they care for me just the same. They spend time with me to understand my issues and have cared for me as a WHOLE person. I cannot recommend this practice highly enough. Never once in 26 years have I considered moving to another practice. read more

I will agree with some of the other reviews that say "avoid at all costs." while the Drs. are nice enough they screw up billing constantly. My insurance BCBS explained that they purposely over charge you ("toward your deductible") to make sure they get paid then supposedly pay you back (but let's be real, it's insurance and medical so the likeliness you will get paid back is a joke). They wanted almost $700 a month from me for prenatal care and that didn't cover ultrasounds or labs (so that was to cover the 10 minute Dr. visits that you sit in the waiting room for 40mins to get). while they will blame your insurance, this is 100% their choice- inaurance has no control over how they code. The woman up front are extremely rude and unprofessional and they discuss your finances at a window facing the waiting room for everyone to hear. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! While Dr Moore was nice, the problem began when she entered the incorrect billing code and I was charged an outrageous amount as my insurance would not cover when she said she did (which she did not). THEN after Mission incorrectly did my mammogram, Dr Moore didnt think it was her job to call me. It was a week later that Mission called at 3:30 pm on a Friday to tell me I had abnormal results. When I finally got Dr Moore on the phone a week later, she said that wasnt her job. If telling the truth on what she billed me for isnt her job and informing me of an abnormal mammogram (MISSION MADE A MISTAKE) and NOT returning my calls for a week after a VERY frightening week..WHAT WAS HER JOB!?!?!?! THEN billing told me I failed to sign an insurance waiver, then they told me that they did it correctly and insurance refused to pay. THIS PLACE IS A NIGHTMARE!!!! read more

Appointment was at 830. I walked in at 830, the desk person was on the phone. She got off the phone, looks up my name, tells me she'll have to reschedule because i was considered late. No exceptions. It is insulting my intelligence to tell me i was late, i walked into the door at 830. They instruct to arrive 20 minutes early. The office is CLOSED until 830. Call the number, the prompt will tell you. I walked into the door at 830. This is not on me. I know people abbreviate many of these experiences on Google, y'all this was a short experience. Due to hormonal changes/aging, I had my first Thermiva treatment last week. Dr. MacArthur performed the procedure and was caring and attentive. Even though you are not supposed to see results right away I had on day 4 after two years of daily discomfort. I can't wait to see the results after the third treatment. All they care about us money and they are bullies. they sent me a bill before Christmas of $150 and then sent the bill to collections I believe end of January, without notifying me prior. that team is ignorant. when I was pregnant and bleeding, scared I'd lose the pregnancy, a nurse came in, not even addressing me, starting to flirt with my husband and saying "omg I love you shoes where did you get them? the first thing I noticed were your shoes. I actually liked Dr. Moore, so it's too bad that I never want to go back there again. They charged $360 just to see me as a new patient and $180 to be fitted for a pessary. That was a total of $540. The claim said something about it being a "surgery"? I have medicare and plan G supplemental insurance which is supposed to pay for just about anything I need generally, but they still charged me $233! AND.... I called the billing department several times but they would not answer. I left a message saying I wanted a call back because I didn't think their charge was legit. They never called me back and just went ahead and charged my card that was on file! This is all very upsetting to me. I plan to still try and fight this! Oh.. and the pessary doesn't work. I don't think I actually was a good candidate for one. I'd warn anyone who goes here to be very careful. Don't give them a credit card up front. I would try to get them to tell me ahead of time what there service is going to cost. I mean... who buys something when they don't have any idea what they will be charged! read more

When I was pregnant last year, I unfortunately had kidney stones at 26 weeks that required two different hospital stays and 3 different surgeries. Dr. Veazey and Dr. Moore took very good care of me and coordinated 3 different surgeries with the urologist in a way that was atypical for kidney surgeries, but best for my baby, and I am eternally grateful for their care, advocacy, and support. They really went above and beyond and I cannot say enough good things about them and the entire practice as I quickly became a frequent flier there. read more

I have a lot to say. Even though I loved Dr. West. I've been with them since I started my period at age 9. I'm now 36. She was always great to me. They have now changed their management. Changed their people. I missed 1 appointment and due to a seizure ( I have epilepsy and I was at the hospital) and didn't call and cancel, they wanted me to pay 50 dollars because I missed, I really needed to see Dr. West very badly and I didn't have the money. They didn't care at all. I've been with them so long and they showed no care at all. I'm sure Dr. West would care if she knew but now I have to go somewhere else. I really hate it and I'm really mad. I didn't even tell them about my seizure. All they cared about is that I signed their new policy that's really strict. I wish Dr. West knew though because I really need help right now. read more

Can I give zero stars? My OB was nice, but we talked about how I didn't have insurance and they assured me certain labs would not be sent off for until my new insurance coverage was active. I guess the office either keeps terrible records or does not respect patients' wishes, because I received two bills from the lab totaling almost $1000 ($946 to be exact). When I called to discuss this, the office had no record of my doctor telling me these labs could be held off on, also there's "nothing we can do" about the bill because they are a different entity than the lab. All this occurred over a 20 minute phone conversation where I was placed on hold four times, and eventually was told the office manager would call me back. Uhh yeah, still waiting on that call.... Won't hold my breath. Meanwhile, I'm calling new OBs to transfer my care. Stay far away from Laurel! read more

If you wish to meet with a doctor who is compassionate and who actually cares about your well being, do not see Rita Kaplon here at Laurel. I scheduled an appointment with her for an annual check up, and to discuss birth control. I'm a very sensitive person, especially when it comes to gynecological health, and I just didn't feel heard or cared for during my visit. She wanted to get me on contraception - but she did not want to actually sit down with me as an individual and take the time to explore what's best for me. I cannot speak for other doctors at this office but I can confidently say that I will not see Dr. Kaplon again and I will be looking for a new OBGYN. I have had the pleasure of working with Dr Susan West for 20 years. She delivered my youngest son 17 years ago. This past week I was admitted to the ER for vaginal hemorrhaging, though she was not on hospital call, she made it a point to be there at the hospital to attend to me. She is highly knowledgeable in her field and is genuinely concerned about the health of her patients and stresses the pros and cons of "doctor's orders." Having a sister who is a GYN oncologist, an is top of her field, Dr. West is spot on in her recommendations to make everyone successful. I highly recommend her and my visits with her have been positive. read more

I was referred to Dr.Moore when my primary care physician felt an abnormal mass during my annual physical. Dr.Moore was extremely warm and reassuring from our first meeting and ended up being the surgeon for a very unexpected surgery to remove a large fibroid tumor. Dr.Moore listened to all my concerns and set my mind at ease throughout the whole process. Sometimes I felt like I was harassing the office to get a call back but that was probably just because I was so anxious about having surgery! I would recommend Laurel to anyone! read more

When I first went to Lauren OBGYN, I saw Dr. Vance and I was very pleased with her. She left and I was transferred to Dr. Gilmer who is nice, but seems to lack interest. Overall, she is ok, but fortunately my obgyn needs are very simple and I don't know how my comfort level would change if I did have more complex needs. What prompted me to write a review and give only 1 star is a new policy regarding keeping patient credit card information on file. When I checked in for my appointment, I was told there was no charge for today, as it was just an annual check up covered by my insurance. I was then asked to provide a credit card to "keep on file" in case I did not pay my bill. I pointed out that my insurance covers today's visit 100%, but then was told it is a blanket policy and if I wanted to proceed w/ today's appointment, I needed to provide my credit card, so I did. Then I was asked to sign an "authorization to charge" form for the credit card I provided. I verbally explained I am NOT authorizing them the charge any thing to a credit cart, that I use credit cards ONLY IN EMERGENCIES. The office manager said they've had so many problems with patients not paying bills, that this is their new policy. She said if I really had a problem with it, to speak to the doctor about it. I did speak to Dr. Gilmer, stating I will be finding a new OBGYN and she just kind of shrugged and stated it is a blanket policy. I have good health insurance and outstanding credit. I protect my credit information and do not like it being "on file". Further, what about individuals who choose not to have credit cards? read more

Dr. Veazey treated me well as far as medical treament is concerned, but I had a recurring issue that she insisted on sending labs for (I've had it treated multiple times at Planned Parenthood, and they were able to look at it under a microscope to determine if it was yeast or bacteria, in fact most people can tell upon initial examination). I was treated for the issue three times before I received a $3000 bill from Solstas Lab, which I had SPECIFICALLY asked her office not to send labs to because they are not covered by my insurance. I make less than $9 per hour, which means I would have to work approximately 350 hours, or 2.5 months at full time to cover just the labs. It has been years and I am still making payments to Solstas. The turn-around time for the lab and the bill was also ridiculous (more than 6 weeks), which I don't know whether to blame on Solstas or Laurel, since they are both involved in the processing of the bill. When I tried to refute the charge with Laurel OB-GYN I was told that since I signed a consent form which said something to the effect of "I consent OB-GYN to send labs to Solstas, inform the receptionist if you wish them to be sent elsewhere," that there was nothing they could do about it. I only signed it because the receptionist told me to, and that she would put a note in my file saying not to send them there. I was also informed that the labs that they sent were not able to go to my preferred lab. This should have been addressed BEFORE the labs were sent. Another thing which should have been addressed is which tests were going to be performed, since I would have agreed only to charges for the yeast and bacteria, instead I was charged for a plethora of other tests such as chlamydia and gonorrhea which were NOT needed. Save your money and go to Planned Parenthood, they have a sliding scale and I have never been treated with anything but kindness. read more

I never write bad reviews since I usually believe everyone is just trying their best. That's not the case here and I want to warn other women. This was an incredulous experience from beginning to end. Dr. West had her receptionist call to deliver shocking news after a pap smear. I was left with questions and no answers. Then she did a (potentially unnecessary) painful procedure. The only reason I did not get a 2nd opinion beforehand was because they told me my insurance totally covered it. Then a few days after the procedure I got an infection and had to take 10 days of antibiotics. THEN I get a bill for $200 from Labcorp! When I called to tell them they said it was covered, they said they have nothing to do with Labcorp and I have to take it up with my insurance company. I then made a big deal about how I should not have to pay for a bill they said was covered. So, they said they'll pay the $200, but dismiss me as a patient. I've never been dismissed as a patient anywhere before, who has? I was planning to never go back there anyway. Takina Jones Thomas ignored my email request to release my records. When I called almost a week later to see if my records were released, I asked her why she didn't respond to my email and she had no answer. So now, I can't get an appointment anywhere else until they release my records and they are intentionally making impossible. If the infection they gave me gets worse while I wait, I'll have to seek legal help. So this goes without saying. DO NOT go here. read more

I had a horrible experience with Dr Susan West that still bothers me several years later. Hopefully writing this review will help bring me some closure. Dr West had terrible bedside manner-I was there to get treatment for an infection but she was overly interested in my weight. I am about 5"1 and at the time weighed around 120 lbs. I was working out every day and eating extremely healthfully-not that she asked. She immediately said "If you could get down to 115, that's where you're supposed to be for your height." No questions about how often I exercise/diet-nothing. Just a condescending comment about my weight. She then proceeded to tell me how much healthier I would be if I could lose 5 pounds. I went to a different OBGYN and never looked back-but I recently ran into someone who used to work in that office who told me that Dr West is notorious for fixating on women's weight, even disregarding medical information in the interest of lecturing women about numbers on a scale! WTF. I find this completely reprehensible and disgusting, not to mention completely outside the realm of good practice. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

Dr. Susan West is my primary but I have met them all at one point or another over the years and they are all wonderful. My experience with this office was appalling. My Dr, Summer Gilmer, has horrible bedside manner. She did not listen to my concerns and did not seem like she had any interest in helping me. She pretty much said "it is no big deal" to my concerns and cut me off to get me out of the door. The appointment lasted about 10 minutes when I had serious health concerns. Additionally, I tried to pay the billing office my $25 copay upon leaving and they wouldn't accept it as they stated I did not owe anything. Three months later the first letter I received from them is extremely brash. It stated they had been repeatedly contacting me (untrue) and if I didn't pay immediately the would report it to my credit and no longer take me as a patient.
