Laurel has plenty of seating at the bars and restaurants with views of the track, and excellent customer service. We visited on a Friday, but will definitely be back for a Sunday brunch. What went well ...everything. The rain stopped. We met some great people and the cigars, good and open bar was to die for. My bride surprised me with tickets to some unknown destination amd low amd behold we ended up at the track. The food was fantastic. I had the beef and it was literally falling apart on my plate. 5he atmosphere was great with everyone in their race track attire. Big beautiful hats, nice jackets, and not course very nice leasure gowns for the ladies. The best track in NOVA! We were so impressed with the cleanliness and friendly staff. So often these days horse racing is at the margins and the whole experience is marginal. Not so here! It was not swimming with people, but that was a positive and not a negative. The food was good and the prices were fair. A fun way to spend a day! read more

This was a nice event held indoors out of the heat. Which was much appreciated. Tickets were pre purchased online. Everyone was VIP. They gave you a bracelet. They had mini appetizers that were given. You also received a wine glass. They had a lot of vendors. Wine,liquor, etc. Clothing, jewelry. They had plenty of seating available. They also offered water for hydration and you were given a goodie bag with a nice recipe & mixture of margarita when you left. Overall I'll give it a 3.5 rating. read more

I love it here! It is a hidden gem that I would like to stay hidden lol I first discovered this place when I was looking for wedding venues and this was my top pick locally but I instead went the destination route. Now occasionally I am always here with my husband and son chilling out watching horse races. We have been coming every season, rain/shine and always have a good time. There are couches aka mini lounges to relax and watch the races. There is a snack bar on the bottom floor and bars throughout the building, we usually bring snacks from the Amish market which is 5 minutes away which is great. They have events here as well that is usually buffet style and my husband one year surprised me with the mothers day event which I really enjoyed. I would love to find a reason to host an event and have it here just to show my guests how nice it is! read more

I took my Godson there for the Mardi Gras event on the 1st of March. It was a flop and culture shock to the Mardi Gras history. They advertised all this excitement and it was anything exciting. Also the menu they advertised they couldn't keep up and closed the kitchen we had to eat at the consesstion food court. There food was pretty good but the hold thing was a cheap flop. They need not to use New Orleans name connected with that mess. Very disappointed read more

This was a poorly organized wine tasting event with VIP tickets and a "bento box." The only thing that was good about this event was that the rose' wasn't horrible. The service was poor, it was unorganized and honestly I'm surprised at how few people were at the venue to participate in horse racing. It is not something I will ever do again. Good times. It was a rainy gloomy day but that didn't stop the horses from racing. I was told that Laurel Park did a major renovation a few years ago on the inside, but I haven't been able to get there until now. Wow! Very posh on the inside in some areas. Nice lounge rooms with leather sofas and chairs, coffee tables. More TV's then you can count showing not only the Laurel races, but other national, and some international races. You can watch the horses being shown before the race at the outside paddock, or inside on the TV before you place your bet. There are several restaurants and bars, an inside enclosed observation deck as well out an outside area. There was even a wedding happening there. Apparently the race track is also family friendly, as there were families there and they even had a Christmas breakfast with Santa, and arts and crafts activities for the kids. So I would say, check their schedule before you go. Parking and admission is free, there is valet if you want to go that rout, and the program is $3. I am not a gambler and I will admit that betting on horses can be really confusing. There are so many combinations of bets you can place. The people who take your bets are really nice and patient and will help you, but if there are a lot of people waiting to place a bet, don't hold up the line if the race is about to go off. I set aside $40 for 9 races (total for that day) and was placing $1-$2 bets, trying to get the hang of it. I didn't win more than I spent, but I didn't spend more than I set aside, so all-in-all it was a fun experience and I look forward to going back when the weather is nicer. Good Luck!!! read more

Gone are the days with people walking around inhaling tons of cigar smoke and stuff. lol. Ever since Laurel park done their renovations. The new place is awesome. The old laurel park mostly everyone knows was a complete dump before they redid the place. All the employees here are very friendly and social. The usual general crowd is middle class people and just regular gamblers. The general crowd tends to be 25+. But some people bring their kids here also. They have a game room for LAN parties and stuff which is very cool for the kids and teens. Ticket machines are everywhere so I don't have to walk far to gamble. The best part I love about laurel park is the "Tycoon Lounge". The food there is completely amazing and priced OK. Last time I went I ordered rib nachos and got a massive amount of food. So the portion sizes are very good here. Also the crowd in here is usually a mixture of nationalities and higher class people also. Also for some weird reason I think the TV's in the tycoon lounge even look more clearer like more HD. Also security checks in like every 15min to make sure everything's OK. They have security thru-out the track also. Plus Mobile security so I don't have to worry about my car. Lastly. Parking is not bad. They are working on the parking lot across from the track. I hoping they bring the Preakness here. Pimilco is like a dump. read more

Gambling with the best of them. Free parking & a $3 valet service (Dre & Vincent are great. Real love/ respect for cars). Plenty of diversity! Groups from Section 8 housing gamble along side groups of CEOs from Loudoun County. Interior is posh and eloquent. Plenty of places to get food, drink, and machines are everywhere. ADVICE: Plan your In-N-Out numbers: your in number should be the initial value you put down. Your two out numbers are (1) how much you want to win and then bet no more (2) how much you plan to lose. I've seen a few guys lose their shoes here. I got a call from security one time. My wife Rachel Ruebens had apparently been using stolen credit cards at this facility. The security team was respectful and polite. They were sympathetic to my situation and the matter was settled out of court. Saw a few of the Baltimore Celebs like to come down here. I just like that is a place for anyone in our community who loves the thrill of gambling. HISTORY BUFFS: the place has over a century of history. So it's seen it's share of characters. Maryland is in my top 3 least favorite states but Laurel Park is a fantastic horse track. Come to Maryland and Gamble! read more

It is a great venue space with friendly staff and a 100+ year old history as a former army training camp. I stopped in on the eve of the 142nd running of the Preakness. My first time here and I was struck by how large and sprawling the facility is. Many, many large rooms for simulcast watching and paramutual betting. I made several wagers and was in and out in a matter of minutes. The staff seemed nice. It was kinda sketchy they advertise $7 to park but was surprised to learn that on Preakness day they jack it to $10 bucks. I walked out to the track for a quick view and found it to be a nice facility. I might return during Belmont or maybe to watch a Stakes race. I liked that that it's a fairly quick easy on and off, in and out from I-95. read more

I enjoyed this great racetrack. There's several betting areas and restaurants as well as concession stands. All were clean and functional. The track was in great shape. The grandstand is completely enclosed and functional. The only complaint is the indoor grandstand doesn't have air conditioning. read more

I've hosted 2 group outings here and both times the group has had a lot of fun. I had a package set up which included VIP parking for my guests and lunch. We had our own hostess who greeted us at the door and escorted us to our tables. The food was pretty good and with alcohol tossed on top, pretty soon everyone was having a great time. Part of the VIP package included naming one of the 10 races and having that name displayed on the jumbotron. Just preceding "our race" our hostess escorted us to the paddock where we could observe the horses being walked just prior to the race. Then we were escorted to the rail just in front of the track to watch the race. Finally, the package included a lovely photo of our group standing with the winner of the race. We left with a memorable story. One of our group won the trifecta, but alas, the winner was disqualified because the two horses bumped. Easy come, easy go. read more

My first visit here was made less intimidating by a wonderful lady named Denise. Since I'm not a horse racing fan, I had no idea even where to park or which entrance to go in. Along the long walk from the parking area I found many helpful people. Once inside Denise greeted me warmly from her spot at the betting area. Had a great time. Great betting, great A/C inside and great food. We went over on a 110 degree hoping to have a fun day and escape the heat. Sadly we did not check ahead and did not realize almost all the tracks on the east coast cancelled racing because of the heat wave. But it gave us a chance to walk around and see all the new renovations. They have Lots of simulcast races to bet on from US, Canada and South America. Great screens to watch and cheer to. Many venues to choose from. All the staff were really nice. We ate at Tycoons - burger, and catfish which were both really great. At the last minute we decided on dessert and so glad we did. The bread pudding was exceptional - pieces warmed with a light caramel sauce and strawberries and blueberries scattered on top. Attended the Rosé on the Rail event here and it was super fun! This was my first time at a horse race and I enjoyed my time! I spent most of it outside at the event but I did venture inside to bet, use the restroom and briefly look around. The outer portion of the building seemed a little dingy and most of the indoor decor was outdated as welp but then again i dont know what decor would be suitable for this type of place. Overlooked gem in the DC area. Horse racing in the Balti-Wash metro area (Laurel, Pimlico, Rosecroft) goes largely unpromoted and unreported. (Need proof? The Park has been here for nearly 100 years: Only two reviews on yelp.) Laurel is a fine place to take in a race. Lots of tradition, good viewing area, accessible paddock. The Post recently reported that, thanks to legalized gambling in Maryland, Laurel and Pimlico are now subsidized and guaranteed to be around for at least a decade. Here's hoping that with its newfound security, Laurel does a little promotion to make itself known in the DC area. Also nearby is a great Amish market and a western wear store. BTW, 4 stars instead of 5 because of the crappy food court. read more

Cash a winning ticket and head home. Yeah, didn't exactly go that way. Amazing how excitement of picking a winner on the 1st race quickly morphs into wild enthusiasm to make it happen again. Joined Mike T. at Laurel Park for a day of racing a few weeks ago. It'd been probably 18 years or so since I was last at a track. Laurel is a great place to get one's feet wet with horse racing. On this particular day the horses that should have won (according to statistical analysis) didn't and some bizarre long shots did. But I still ended up with a few winners, only left $14 down on the day, and had a ton of fun. Pack a lunch (there are concessions, but I was happy with my sandwich from home) and spend an afternoon taking in the sport of kings in the enclosed grandstand or hanging out down on the rail. Whether your ticket is a win or another crumpled dream tossed on the pavement, you'll have a good day watching these beautiful creatures. read more

This is a great place to have your Thanksgiving meal. It is served in the club house and yes, you have to have reservations (it sells out). Before you say, "horse tracks are dumps full sketchy people," do not. Over the past several years the owners have been renovating the place and there are lots of families here. Every time I come here I have great time and the service had been fabulous. Our server (who got us our drinks) on Thanksgiving was great. The food is buffet style with good variety of tasty food. Besides the good eats and great service, the other two reason I come here are that I get to bet on the horse and my troublemaking family member are not here. read more

Attended the Decanter wine event here. The event was very nice and it is very apparent that they have put significant amounts of money in to the venue to make for a good horse racing experience. The unfortunate event happened at the end of the event when my fiance and I had 2 hrs to kill before our dinner reservation and he took a nap on the couch in the very nice relaxation area. I enjoyed watching the screens while my fiance napped. A security guard approached and insisted that my fiance was incapacitated and required medical attention. We were then surrounded by another set of security guards who verified that my fiance was fully functional without issue. With the expanse of their renovations, they will quickly loose business if their security continues to make assumptions as to the state of guests without inquiring first. This creates a very unwelcoming circumstance for guests wanting to spend additional money. read more

I brought the family on a Saturday and we had a fun afternoon. We were pleasantly surprised when we saw a number of other families with children watching the races. The facility is clean and updated, friendly and somewhat low key. The staff are friendly and willing to answer all your questions. They make an effort to provide an enjoyable experience. My friends and I came here for the Brew and Bourbon Classic and I have to say -- please god, someone renovate this place. As soon as I walked inside, I thought I had time traveled back to 1985. Everything was so incredibly dated: the televisions, interior design, furniture. You'd think they'd bring in enough profit from the horse races to keep up with the times. The event itself was partially outdoors and that's where we mostly stayed as the weather was beautiful. Watching the horses while sipping good bourbon was a wonderful experience and I had a great time, but I cannot see myself coming here to hang out. read more

I was at Laurel Park (May 5th) for the pre-Preakness / Kentucky Derby day. This place is so nice since the remodel and overhaul of the facilities. I love this place. I would have given 5 stars, but EVERY bar was completely understaffed and the wait to get a beer or drink was ridiculous. Each bar was 3 to 4 people deep, and some bars only had 1 bartender. Jailbreak was soooo slow, and I walked away to another bar...got 3 beers and came back. My 2 friends STILL had not be acknowledged or waited on. Doesn't cost that much more to put more people on to handle the crowds. (Especially since your markup on drinks is so high). Still.. I love this place for racing and atmosphere. read more

Cheap drinks. But We had 1 issue with the machine my friend thought someone took his winning ticket so he went up to the guy that was closest to the machine and said " give me my ticket" . But the guy got really offended and made a noise so the nice security guard came and handled everything. And we found out it was the machine that didn't print out his winning ticket . Came out just to eat at Tips and it was one of my favorite dining experiences ever! I went in with a friend for lunch. We were immediately sat at a window table overlooking the track and warmly greeted by our waitress. We both ordered the crab cake sandwich and fries. Both of which came out very hot and quickly. Our waitress was very attentive and polite. Management checked a number of times to make sure everything was okay and the teamwork of the staff really makes the full customer dining experience. Beautiful place, excellent service, excellent food and delicious desserts. 10/10 highly recommend. read more

The hours of operation are impossible to find. What you do find is usually wrong. When you call for hours, it turns out what they tell you is wrong too. So you show up to find that either they're not open yet, or the cashiers don't start working for another hour.
