I never knew an ice skating rink could be so baller, but here it is! My memories of ice skating rinks include busted old benches, swinging on penalty box doors, and the occasional salted pretzel. The Gardens features multiple rinks, an equipment store, locker rooms, a warm refreshment room deemed "Ice Breaker Cafe" (clever!) with a flat-screen TV and a full menu of junk food from breakfast to late-night, and a sizable collection of arcade games. Judging from a wall of plaques and photos, it looks like they house local ice hockey groups, from high school teams to a contingent I hope to join in some 50 years: the Geri-Hat Tricks! Their photos are amazing. Tonight's public skate (7:30-9:30pm on Fri/Sat; check website for changes or other days) featured a wide age range: lots of middle and high school groups giggling around, a number of younger kids - some sporting full hockey gear - tearing around the rink and putting the rest of us to shame, teens on dates, adults on dates (these were generally the worst skaters), and mommies and daddies helping adorable little ones totter around in circles. It was great people-watching, and festive without being overly crowded. Music ranged from Adele to Rihanna, and yes, there was space for a mini dance-off as we circled the rink. (We both lost. Our dignity.) After public skate ended, we were even able to split a coke in the Ice Breaker Cafe while watching the beginning of an amateur ice hockey match! A fitting and enjoyable conclusion, despite the lack of rum. If you're looking for a new date spot or fun place to take/drop off the kiddos and you're willing to make the hike (it's right off 95 and the ICC, if that helps), this place is all you. Enjoy!

    Cool tribute!

THe leagues here are epic, the ice is decent for the area...and the pro shop is solid.

Hockey is what brings me up there but they also are heavily into figure skating and they do offer classes.

The little ones always have a blast with the laser tag, moon bounce, trampolines, castle, roller coaster, bumper cars, and foot interaction video games. Staff are always friendly. If you need special attention reach out to the assistant general manager Zeke who ensured we had our needs met and was attentive to those on his ride. One benefit of going over various years is that I've seen how the interior has evolved. Management is always moving rides around and bringing out new additions to keep up with the times. It usually looks different from one year to the next. LOL's downside is that the food is not that filling and is pricey. Like many party places, food from outside is prohibited, so birthday parties require ordering from the kitchen. Pizzas are plain and thin and go for around $20. Nachos aren't even worth it for the price. Fries have such a limited quantity. The kitchen closes one hour before the business closes. For parties, the staff are strict about making families leave once the two hours are up even if the birthday table will be vacant the rest of the day. Maybe the staff can cut birthday party customers some slack since they spent a lot of money on that event. Once the table is gone seating isn't guaranteed in the public section.

Went here for a birthday party and brought my nieces with me. I saw a review on TikTok before I went and it actually looked way bigger, more stuff, and nicer than when you're actually there. Half the games weren't working, when taking the kids to get on rides it didn't seem like the people operating the rides cared much, as I had to make sure the girls were properly in the ride and fastened in tightly. Some of the ride seats belts and straps were broken, worn out, half way tearing. That's a huge safety hazard if the kids aren't strapped in tight, and after I secured them in there, they don't even come around to ensure they're in there right. It's like am I working here too, of course I care more about my child's safety. They have a height threshold for rides but kids under the height were still able to get on. It's just kids working there, one person working two rides. I constantly used sanitizing wipes to wipe the girl's hands because I felt it's so many germs around that place. Finally, had to take my niece to the bathroom, I asked her is she could hold it because the bathroom wasn't the cleanest, and it was only two stalls which makes no sense for a place that size with that many people. Very underwhelming and interesting fun place. Would not recommend.

So... 4.5-stars for the actual Rockville Ice Arena (RIA), but really the reason I feel compelled to…read morewrite a review is to warn figure skaters away from the East Coast Pro Shop inside the Arena, which deserves no stars. If you have figure skates, do NOT get your skates sharpened here, no matter how desperate you are and how much this shop claims to sharpen figure skates 'all the time.' They did such a poor job on my sharpening (which, as a beginner, I unfortunately just chalked up to me struggling with newly sharpened skates rather than a botched job) that months later the sharpener at the new shop I went to (Replay Sports - Rockville) was exasperated; going out of his way to comment on just how bad the previous sharpening was (without me even mentioning my struggles). He ended up having to shave down the whole blade to fix it. Lo-and-behold, I had 0 struggles after this sharpening. To top it off, the Pro Shop charged $24, which was not mentioned prior to them sharpening the skates. I didn't doublecheck the price since a RIA employee had already told me three days earlier it was ~$12. When I mentioned the discrepancy at checkout, they said, 'Well, these are figure skates, not hockey skates.' Huh? For reference, I just have standard Mark IV blades... Despite their shop, I can't in good faith give the RIA arena any less than 4 stars, because overall the rinks are really nice, and I've had excellent experiences with the employees and adult group lessons here. I agree with other reviewers that the weekend sessions are insanely busy and should be avoided, but that's true for really any rink in this area. Yes, their weekday public skate sessions are at inconvenient times (usually 12-2pm, MWF), but as result, these sessions are sometimes virtually empty - so depending on your work schedule, this can be a real benefit.
