The history of this beautiful B&B is just incredible. a beautiful 45 room mansion located in Michigans Keweena Peninsula. Kevin, the innkeeper, has excellent customer service skills along with a wealth of knowledge of the property and the surrounding area. Terrific location. A bit outdated but clean. Stayed 3 nights & housekeeping kinda came once. Made one bed & lest some clean pillowcases!? Impossible to get ahold of staff unless you are well versed in VHF radio. Wi-Fi is advertised but basically nonexistent. read more

We came for the tour only and found this inn to be completely charming with interesting finishes and a really gracious host. We were greeted by Julie. She explained the tour and gave us the literature (tours are self-guided but the inn has a very detailed written breakdown by room and extensive audio so that you can listen while you look around.) For 2019, the adult price tours come with a freshwater pearl bracelet. After Julie saw the wistful look from my young niece (child price entry), she very generously gave her a bracelet as well. A sweet gesture that made it clear that she wanted all of her "guests" to be happy. The house is so interesting and many of the original finishes are still in place. Make sure to save time for the third floor ballroom where you can see an extensive record of the owners' renovation process and also read some interesting stories about life in the B&B/inn business. read more

Warning! The website says there is AC in all of the rooms, this is false. we stayed on the third floor and there was no AC and they said they didn't put the unit in beacause it's cool in the evenings. Today it was 83 degrees and humid and our room still feel very warm at 10:30 at night. I have complained but keep being told it cools off at night so there is no need to install an AC unit. This was the centerpiece of our 30th anniversary trip and we are rather disappointed. The manor itself is lovely and the food served was great. If only we could have slept in comfort... read more

What a nice place to stay for several days. This charming old mansion looks scary at first and has a scary history too. Even the innkeeper, Julie and Dave won't tell you the scary stuff. But don't worry, no spooks here, they have been bottled up by the Ghostbusters already. The rooms are quaint, and lovely, the food in hearty and filling, all the decor is very charming and quaint. The Innkeepers, Julie and Dave are very nice people from NoCal, who have taken an interest in restoring the little town of Laurium and spreading their good cheer over this so sad part of the UP. Julie and Dave are such fun hardworking people. This picture is of the home across the street. It is also part of the Manor Empire, when you stay there, you may walk over the big house for breakfast. Laurium Manor Inn - The parlor of the Laurium Inn - Hotels Near Me - Laurium, Michigan

We stayed at the Victorian Hall across the street but did tour Laurium Manor as well. If you stay the night at either B&B, the tour is included; otherwise, it's $8 to tour Laurium Manor, but well worth it to see the friezes, the elephant hide wallpaper and to read the story of how the owners tranformed this house that had been looted of most of its treasures by previous owners. The proprietors were kind, the breakfast of pancakes with candied ginger and walnuts and homemade pastries was wonderful, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. There's Wifi at the main house, though we and at least one other guest had problem accessing it. Still, you go to a Victorian b&b to get away from technology, don't you? Definitely five stars and extremely affordable compared to many other B&Bs. read more

DISCLAIMER: I did not stay overnight but rather took myself on the self-guided tour of the mansion. To take a tour, simply ring the front bell and the owner will appear and bring you into the foyer where she will collect your admission, provide you a pamphlet and a brief introduction of how her and her husband came to own the property. You are allowed to go from room to room, as long as the door is open (some do have guests staying in the closed-off rooms, so please be considerate). Feel free to turn on and off lights, take in the grandeur of the details in each and every room. It took me over an hour to see the mansion, as there is a lot to take in. Having never been inside of a bed and breakfast previously, it was a great primer as to what one could expect in that type of lodging. I would definitely recommend this if you are in the Calumet area. read more

As a part of a 8 day trip exploring the Keweenaw Peninsula, and Isle Royale, I booked one night in the Laurium Manor Inn. We had just come off the boat from Isle Royale in Copper Harbor, so we had to drive about an hour down to Calumet. We finally found the place - it's in an ordinary neighborhood with a lot of ordinary working class homes.. I had booked the Laurium Suite - the only room with access to the beautiful balcony. So much for sitting on the balcony enjoying the view. The check in didn't feel very welcoming - I don't think the owners were on hand at the time. We were given a flyer on the history of the building, and the key to the room. No one escorted us to the room, or offered any additional information. It felt like checking into a museum - and a dark, gloomy one at that. Most of the dark and gloomy feeling came from the decor, which was pretty typical of that era. Not very welcoming or cozy - more of a "do not touch" feel. We went into downtown Calumet to find some dinner - what a sad town - and came back to our room. Often, when we stay in B&Bs, we enjoy sitting in the common areas. It didn't even seem like there *was* a common are for guests to gather. So upstairs we went. We had a pretty good night's sleep. Going downstairs for breakfast in the morning was the biggest disappointment of all. We went down later than the other guests, who were already seated and eating - I don't remember there being a specific start time for breakfast, since it was served buffet style. No one greeted us, or acknowledged our presence - we just got our food and sat at an empty table. The food wasn't memorable in any way. We love our B&Bs and stay at them whenever we can. We love meeting and talking to the owners and other guests, and have experienced some excellent inns that are really "high touch" when it comes to clientele. That was not our experience with the Laurium Manor Inn, and I can't recommend this - especially for the price and the location. read more

One-of-a-kind for sure, the Laurium Manor Inn is full of charm and history. Our Inn Keepers were just fantastic, informative, and accommodating - pretty much the perfect hosts. Breakfast was delightful with plenty of substance alongside some sweet treats. We could have wandered around the manor for hours and it's so nice that free access came with our stay. We chose room #3 (the nursery) and definitely got our money's worth. There were so many historic touches as well as modern conveniences (i.e. full cable TV, great shower, appliances, etc.). Staying here also inadvertently introduced us to so many great things (shops, food, churches, history, etc.) in Calumet that we might never have experienced otherwise. My wife and I have enjoyed two stays with the owners of the Laurium and its sister location across the street, and absolutely love and recommend these establishments. The first time we visited Calumet (which is a marvelous undiscovered gem of the UP, particularly for a history buff), we had heard about the Laurium and visited for the self-guided tour. We were astonished to discover the cost to stay during off-peak times which is when we generally are in that area, is no more than a night's lodging in the nearby chain motels in Calumet. So we made a vow to ourselves to stay at the Laurium upon our next trip into the Keweenaw. We loved the ambiance, the decor, the history of the place and the wonderful breakfast and graciousness of the owner. It was on this first trip that we learned of the sister B & B across the street, the Victorian Hall, which we toured. Later we learned from friends that they had spent time at the Victorian on the honeymoon and very much enjoyed it. So that's where we stayed on our most recent trip into the region and were not disappointed and we again enjoyed breakfast across the street in the Laurium. It is clear the owners put a lot of TLC into these buildings and they certainly seem to enjoy their work. We are looking forward to a longer, extended stay in one of their other home B & B's in the future and hope to take our son and daughter-in-law and granddaughters along for a week or two. Our only recommendation would be that breakfast include more options for persons who have food allergies. I am allergic to many tree nuts and can not eat coconut and have observed that the breakfast items often include these foods and it would be nice if the entrees included a small ingredients card. But this is a common problem that is found in most restaurants and hotels so it isn't anything that can't be worked around. We also highly recommend that you spend at least one dinner or lunch at The Michigan House in downtown Calumet, especially if you enjoy craft microbrews and marvelous sandwiches and entrees. read more

We stayed two nights in the Victorian Inn across the street in a king suite on the 3rd floor. It's a beautiful suite and bed and breakfast. There is a slight musty smell but plenty of windows to open. The suite is spacious and comfortable. Breakfast is served at the Laurium and was better than most. The french toast was cold or it would have been delicious. There aren't many dining options nearby but it is in a good location for traveling around the Keweenaw Peninsula. read more
