Red rum, not French island rum - I find this like hair oil! The owner is friendly and well informed; he speaks French (naturally) but also English, and some German he said. We were on holiday touring France mostly, doing wine tasting in a range of places. It was my first visit to Switzerland, and I was a little sceptical about Swiss wine but he had some interesting bottles, and can help with advice about Swiss wines and domaines in the area. Vevey is the home of Nestlé but I didn't ask if he could recommend a wine to go with chocolate - I wonder if the Swiss have a better match than Banyuls?!

A quirk of this place -- and part of what makes it cool -- is it also doubles as a furniture showroom. Yes, the furniture in the cafe is also for sale. The style is an industrial/vintage look, and has a lot of character. They also have live music in the evenings from time to time. I am still not used to the milk being left out of the fridge but hey, it's all good. the store has a little bit of everything you could imagine. if you can think of it, they have it, but no alcohol.

A downside is lines here regularly get very long, so plan ahead if you have a train to catch. All else equal, shop at a regular Coop -- not only for more selection, but also lower prices. As an example, a can of beer might be 1.80 CHF at Coop, and 2.00 CHF at the Pronto. Overall though, better than the Kiosk in price and selection, and convenient for getting some food and drink at the station.
