Great laverie / laundromat in Montparnasse. Only 4 euros for 6kg to wash. 5 euro for 8kg to wash. Dryer costs 1 euro for ten minutes and that did the job. Why can't dryers in America dry clothes in 10 minutes?
Anyway, this place is super clean. In fact, while I've been waiting for my clothes to dry, the owner has been very dutifully cleaning every nook and cranny...he even wipes down the insides of the washers. I love that! You can tell he takes pride in his business. Warms my damn heart!
If you're visiting and looking to not pay a hotel 5 euros to wash one pair of panties, just come here. It's about an hour out of your life. And when your clothes are in the washer, you can grab a bite at a neighboring restaurant or shop at the grocery store right across the street.
Note: the instructions are in French only, but it's easy. At the payment machines, you press the numbers corresponding to your soap or machines, and then you pay! The machine takes 20/10/5 euros as well as coins. Soap (lessive) is 1.20 and softener (assouplissant) is 1.00.
First, put your clothes in the right size washer for the amount of clothes you have. Pay for your soap (or bring your own) and it will be dispensed. Open the top of the washer and you will see two columns/trays. Their powder soap goes in back left compartment. And the softener goes in the front right (under the lid). Then go to the machine, punch in your number, and pay. You don't need exact change. Now you have 50 minutes to go explore! When it's time to dry, just move your clothes to the dryer. Dial the number and make your payment. You may need to run your clothes through two 10-minute cycles depending on how much you need to dry.
