Short Review : 10/10 do recommend. A review from a mom who took her 10 year old son. Long Review: we had an AMAZING time. I am a mom of a 10 year old with ADHD and SPD. To say that it's hard to find an activity that goes well is an understatement. So backstory my son wanted to make his own knife and for me to make my own for competition. So we get to the forge and get signed in. Then came our first obstacle, the apron and the gloves. Luckily he put them on no problem but he was fidgeting and starting to become short with me. *deep breath* I tied his apron off in a way he felt comfortable with and let him try on at least 10 different gloves until he found the ones that didn't scratch his skin. G2G we lined up and started the class for horseshoe. As the instructor started giving the first step my sons apron started bugging him. Everyone broke off to start step one and I spent another 5 minutes helping my son get his apron fixed so it wasn't bothering him. Then we heated up our steel and started. Steps were really simple and my son started in no problem. It was when down time came that he was getting more agitated with his apron and gloves. Step 2 comes and my son is wanting to give up. He's says everything is scratchy and he can't do it. As I'm trying to coax him into doing step 2, my son touches the steel and burns his finger. At this point I'm stressed about being behind everyone else in class due to making two knifes and trying to combat the SPD. So when I alerted our instructor Nicholas of our situation you'll understand why I thought he was a god send. Nic swooped in and administered first aid. He spoke to my son calming him down and deescalating my sons overwhelmed melt down. Nic then told me he would finish up with my son if I wanted to finish up the next step with our knifes. *deep breath* we got this. While I was finishing up the step Nic and my son came back and he set him up on a log near me for a time out and then helped with getting the other knife done with the step. Nic, you are a parents dream. Long story shorter, Nic basically finished my sons knife. My son was able to help me with mine doing the hammering and taking breaks. The rest of the time went by smooth. My son was somewhat participating and I was able to finish the class without any concerns. It was so nice to be able to have an experience go well. To have real support from the instructor and leave with my son telling me he had an amazing time was priceless and I didn't even feel like crying on the way home bonus points. If you are looking for a fun, creative activity then I recommend being a blacksmith for a few hours. Anyone, at any skill level, can do this! The instructors teach in one of the best ways - tell you what to do, show you what to do, then you do it. They also walk around to check on your progress and help as needed. I recently attended a class where you make a bottle opener, led by Gage. Some of the work you get to get a little fancy and make a spiral, and everyone's came out a little different which made it all a little more special. I followed along with the instructions and made a fully functional opener that was used when I got home. Some advice - wear cotton clothing. Synthetics will melt near the forge which is at about 2100 degrees. Wear layers, as the space is cold (this was in January) at the beginning and then gets hotter. Remember to drink water, you will get dehydrated. Follow the safety instructions. Most of all have fun! If you are struggling the instructor will help. This can be a great team building activity, or sign up for one of their classes and meet new people. read more

Cannot say enough positive things about this place, they deserve every single 5 star review they have here. My wife went to a class and made a barbecue fork as a friend's birthday celebration. She had such a great time she couldn't wait to come home and tell me about it and immediately convinced me to do the Damascus ring class together. We made our own wedding rings about a month before getting married and it was such a great experience. Every single person here is welcoming and makes you feel like you belong. I was not sure what to expect entering this space as a woman but immediately felt just fine. They are so friendly and eager to show you everything they can, answer all question and share their extensive knowledge. Everyone had a great time in our class. Here's where these folks go the extra mile. Our rings ended up being a bit tight and so when they reached out to us as a courtesy follow up, we opted to go back in and had them resize them a bit. They got us in quickly so we were still set before the wedding. Then after the wedding and wearing our rings for a month we realized they were still too tight for comfort. We went back in and Max, the owner, helped us in starting over and making new rings and made sure they were 100% right. He is such a genuinely kind person and clearly loves what he does, it's infectious. Came here this past weekend and had a blast. Lawless Forge is a great place to have an unforgettable birthday, corporate event, or date night!! Be sure to get there early to account for all the preparation and to ensure you get the entire time with your instructor. Before you start class, you have sign a waiver through a QR code, super easy! After that you gear up with an apron, protective eye gear, and gloves. Also be sure to read over the dress code to ensure your safety in the process of making something amazing. I wasn't sure what to expect but our instructor was great in breaking down each step along the way. I came in a big group and our instructor was great at providing help when needed. We took the class to make the iron rebar knife and it took 3 hours from start to finish. You certainly shouldn't have to do arm day before or the day after attending class. I have to say it is very satisfying and empowering to make something with your own hands and will be back in the future! The location of this place is a bit tricky with a lot of turns so it's easy to miss. There is a parking lot right in front of the place and additional parking just down the road. read more

Location: This place is tricky to get to, but if you follow the directions that is given when you book your workshop it really isn't too bad. Be careful if the train is on the move, it was a pain waiting for the train to finish and if we ended up waiting, we would have missed our class. Arrival: Arrive early. It's okay for the instructor to run late because of the technical difficulty (just saying not that it happens in my situation) but it's not okay for you to be late and hold up the class. Moving on, there is a QR scan thing to complete your check-in process. The Instructor: Matt was pretty darn amazing. Very descriptive with instructions, patient, and helpful when anyone needed assistance. It was nice that he played music throughout the class. The workshop: Wow! I didn't know what to expect so I kept an open mind even though I seen shows. It lasted for about three hours but it didn't feel like it. With the instructions, demo, and blood, sweat and tears (kidding), the final product was complete! It was such a great experience that I will be coming back with a different group. SO worth it!!! Went here last night for date night with my BF because I wanted to try something new. Spiff was our instructor for the class and he was amazing. He was so patient and also very funny, such a good guy and a total asset to Lawless Forge. The class was so fun, DIY style. Spiff would show us how to do steps 1 by 1 and we'd follow what he did right after each step ourselves. We made a horseshoe knife. It was so worth the money, the three hour class goes by so quickly. It honestly almost seems like we robbed the place with how much time + fun + product we got. I'm not going to lie, I was more than a little scared to start this class. There were forges that heated things to 2000 degrees, anvils, heavy hammers, and leather gloves. Eye protection necessary, NOT to be removed was rule #1. All that fear went away with Randy's super chill and insanely knowledgeable demeanor. We took the horseshoe knife class, one of their public class offerings. It's harder than it looks but it's SO SATISFYING to pound away on hot metal and to come away with something so insanely cool. Plus, there is so much help along the way. The staff at Lawless make sure that everyone is successful in their introduction to blacksmithing. P.S. BE ON TIME! The class takes the full 3 hours and if anyone in the group is late, the instructor has to take over some of the steps and you don't get to pound as much as you might want to. An awesome place to make small metal objects like a bottle opener. You could come here alone or as a group. Just call ahead of time. This place is located right under the West Seattle Bridge in a bright turquoise building with street parking. It might be hard to find at first because of the one way street, but google maps will get you here. The two guys who work there are friendly and helpful. They will go step by step and provide assistance if needed. They provide the safety gear, so no need to worry about bring your own aprons, gloves, and safety glasses. You just need to make sure to wear appropriate clothes and have your hair tied back if it is long like mines. I had so much fun with a group of yelpers here making bottle openers. Sam was a fantastic teacher during the horseshoe knife class and was very attentive to everyone but especially to my children (8 and 12) who needed some extra help. He also was very kind to my youngest when he was burned on his arm (due to the carelessness of his sibling not a fault of the forge). He got him some burn cream and a band aid immediately.
