He set the appointment for the owner. I liked the pictures and there are some great, unposted reviews. The owner was not only on time but was early. I found him very friendly but here is where the interview went south. I live on a quarter acre. The foot print of my home take up the majority of the land. I asked for an estimate to which, he didn't think twice and told me that he would charge me $80 to cut my lawn every two weeks and $100 every two weeks to pull weeds from my flowerbed after he cut the lawn. If my math is correct, that is $180 every two weeks. I don't live at the Biltmore Estate or an exclusive golf course! Does anyone see how ridiculous this is? Doesn't it scream, "exploitive"? I wish Mike Holmes from, Holmes on Homes would move to NC and take on all of the unscrupulous handymen, contractors and lawn service companies that practice overcharging for their services but under delivering on them. In this economy, everyone is trying their best to live, and to extend the life of existing products. Most can't afford to move because of the high interest on mortgage rates, so we are making the best of what we have to extend the longevity of our homes. I understand that companies need to make money and to provide work for their employees who bills and families but why charge unrealistic, exorbitant prices but do work that isn't professional or ethical without conscious or remorse? $180...I am dumbstruck. He told me the price without hesitation or batting an eye. I asked him for clarity and he repeated $80 to cut the grass and $100 to pull weeds. Here's an update, the assistant called after reading my review. He said noticed that I posted a review anyway. (I never discussed posting a review but it is my right and it helps others who are in the market to know the truth; good or bad, positive or negative). He said that he wanted to respond to my post on Yelp but wasn't able. He insisted that Cornelia didn't mean $180 but that it was a language barrier. It made me angry because he wanted to gaslight me into thinking that I was confused. He said that he probably meant $100 for the entire thing or $80 but not $180. I told him that he wasn't here and did not know what was said. I asked Cornelia multiple times if it was $100 for the flowerbed and $80 for the lawn and he said clearly, "Yes, $180." I told the assistant if there was any potential that language would be an issue, why does he go out to do the estimates and that he should've come to do the estimate. Cornelia speaks well. I had no problem understanding him. The assistant wanted to post an excuse and make me the fall guy but I told him not to reach out to me or to come to my home, or I would share the texts. It's a shame that I'd have to go to such lengths of keeping texts for proof to protect myself just in any situation.
