This is a small, three story building that is confusing. You walk in and wonder what's going on since there is no one there and a variety of pamphlets. We were here on a Thursday afternoon and we were the only people in the place. There was a large teepee exhibit on the first floor. Some of the information was readily available about the exhibit, and other stuff you just had to wonder about. In the back part of the first floor was another exhibit with some interesting things with paper. There is also a second and third floor with significantly smaller spaces. On the third floor, there was one exhibit space. I walked up and saw the door open but the lights were out. I walked in and the lights came on by themselves. There was nothing and no one to tell me it was ok to go in, good thing I'm not scared to invade people's space and found another exhibit in there. Overall, I wasn't too impressed with the exhibits in the Lawndale Art Center. The best thing I saw here was the huge graffiti piece on the north side of the building. Daniel Anguilu, a street artist, has used the exterior wall as his canvas. The exhibit named "Famous Monsters" will be on view through June 2012. It's really cool! Loved it but I would have totally missed it if I hadn't gone over to the Center for Contemporary Craft and looked back. If you go here before June 2012, make sure to take a look at the North side of the building. Free Admission.

Three story gallery tucked away in the museum district with its own parking lot. Like Liz S. says, they seem to display more contemporary pop art stuff. I went for a friend's work on display that just got taken down over the weekend. I'd helped in some of the painting process and was excited to see the final product, but sorry I had missed his opening reception due to travel. Other stuff they were showing included crochet-wrapped taxidermy, a collection of gay romance novels, and a collection of robot toys. Free parking, free admission--good way to spend an afternoon exploring culture away from the museum district biggies.

My favorite thing about this museum is the awesome pop art on the side of the building! The human hamster wheel is pretty cool too. It's free and located next to the Contemporary Craft Museum so I would recommend checking that museum out as well if you visit.

I went here on a date. And Lawndale has proven itself to be my favorite place to visit this year. It's a clean, open space with a fine showcase of local artists. I was there before their new exhibit but I plan on going back to see it. There were so many different and evocative pieces ranging from Black Southern memorializing to abstract sculptures flexing using texture. It's a free space so donations are welcome. Please support your local museums, especially the small ones!

Oh, The Galleria! My ex-husband is from Houston and I've…read morebeen to The Galleria many, many times. In fact, I started going long before I knew my husband. My dad also lived in Houston and we'd often do shopping or eating at the mall. My daughter (who is now 30) loved (& still does) skating at the ice rink during the holidays. It's a magically fun experience. The Galleria is always incredibly decorated for the holidays. I still get to Houston 1-2 times a year and always enjoy visiting The Galleria. The Galleria itself has not only the ice rink but office space, two hotels, lots of places to eat, and shopping. The retail offerings range from shops like H&M, Macy's, and Nordstrom to high-end luxury shops like Gucci & Chanel. We were there just a few months ago and it was just as fun and exciting as my first visit! Gang, there are so many stores here. Like crazy amounts (a few hundred). It's very large and easy to navigate and of course gets extremely busy during peak times. A must-visit for locals and tourists alike.

Shopping can be hit or miss, and on this particular day, it was definitely a miss. My friends and I…read moreare dedicated bargain shoppers, and despite our best efforts, the Houston Galleria wasn't giving up any deals. With only about an hour before leaving Houston, our shopping mission was more of a speed run than a leisurely browse. Even without scoring any purchases, the Houston Galleria remains an impressive destination. The moment you step inside, you experience bright lights, multiple levels of stores, and a steady stream of shoppers that create an energetic, bustling atmosphere. Beyond shopping, the mall offers entertainment options such as its iconic indoor ice-skating rink, making it easy to spend an entire day there. One of the Galleria's biggest strengths is its variety. Luxury retailers like Chanel and Louis Vuitton share space with more accessible brands such as Banana Republic and American Eagle, offering something for nearly every budget and style. Whether you're on a focused shopping mission or simply window-shopping, there's plenty to explore...even if, in our case, we left empty-handed. The dining options are equally diverse, ranging from food-court favorites to sit-down restaurants like The Cheesecake Factory and Shake Shack to Chic-fil-a. While we didn't find the bargains we were hoping for, our fast-and-furious shopping adventure was filled with laughter and great conversation, and the kind of fun that comes from spending time with good friends. Sometimes spending quality time with friends is the best find of all.

The atmosphere there is relaxing and soothing, and from the moment guests arrived, it invited celebration, creativity, and connection. The setup was thoughtful, elevated, and beautifully curated. Every person I spoke with commented on how much they loved the space, and the event felt unforgettable in the best way.
