I found this to be a very interesting museum if you are interested in all elements of the human body. Parking was free across the street, but on a weekend, there wasn't any available spaces. We had to stop and wait on the lot for someone to move. We only had to wait a few minutes, but I presume there are arguments over spaces because there is a sign upon entry that says no holding spaces. When we walked to the museum, we noticed that there was a paid museum parking lot right in front of the main entry. The cost is only $8.00 and there were half of the spaces empty. We'll do that next time. All in all, it was a good experience and I encourage others to visit. read more

I've lived in Houston for years and never made it to The Health Museum until today. I decided to visit at the very last minute remembering that many of the museums offer free admission on Thursdays. Take note that admission is free on Thursday but you must make a reservation in advance, available in 30 minute reservation time blocks. These blocks allow you a 30 minute timeframe to enter but once inside, you're welcome to stay until close. After arriving, I was not surprised but still a little overwhelmed with the number of small children and families with baby strollers. As several other reviewers mentioned, this is really a Children's Health Museum with the exhibits featuring larger than life organs and elementary interactive displays geared towards a child. I'll admit I did enjoy walking around the displays such as the enormous human eye and massive beating heart, but wished there had been more information on modern medicine and some of the advances like prosthetic joints and transplantation. They did have a current exhibit featuring the rise of microplastics with a focus on the waste collection efforts at Buffalo Bayou and some statistics about Houston plastic usage. This was a nice touch to have a local feature. For logistics, the museum is located right in the middle of the museum district making it super easy to walk to other surrounding museums and some of the great parks and gardens in the area. It's just two or three blocks from the metro rail line and they do have parking onsite for $8 for all day parking. This is convenient but I honestly recommend just going with metered street parking. I paid just over $2 for an hour. Overall, a great spot for kids. read more

Thursday nights are free family nights if you register the Monday of the same week. You have to pick an entry time. I didn't know the museum closed at 6. Surprise. And I picked a 430 time. I paid to park at the museum because my kid was sleeping but there is free parking directly across the street. You do have to pay extra for the Body World exhibit which is smaller than the regular traveling one but cool nevertheless. The kids had a good time seeing life size parts of the human body especially playing in the colon. Lots of things to learn here if your kid is interested in learning. Ours were fascinated by it all at three years old and so was his friend. read more

Good place to come for CME. Not as good on a Thursday free afternoon unless you have kids. Super crowded on a recent weekday visit. Used to love coming here with the family when my kids were young. Who knows? Maybe it helped spark their interest in science. Now it's....Twenty years of exhibits that need a facelift. For younger families, it is a nice hands on museum to learn about the body. Go explore the heart, lungs, nervous system. My kids loved watching the live organ dissections back in the day. The DeBakey Cell lab is also quite a unique experience. My favorite special exhibit was Body as a Work of Art: More Than Skin Deep. So interesting to see microscopic images of cells turned into fabric to create patterns turned into dresses. So unique. Currently, Mindworks:The US Premiere is on display. Think about what it takes to make decisions. What do we dream? Explore your feelings and emotions at this hands-on installation. This museum is definitely one for the whole family to enjoy. My 10 year old had a blast and honestly so did I. My favorite features were the brain challenges, the experiment lab and the giant pac man game. There are a lot of hands on activities to do here and again I feel like there are opportunities available for all ages. Now, be aware the theatre located inside where dissections happen does cost and so does a reservation to participate in the experiment lab. My 9 year old wanted to return after a field trip last school year, so we went on a Tuesday morning at opening before heading home from a fall break trip. It was a perfect 1.5-2 hour attraction for the 9 year old kids. The 12 year old was less impressed. This museum is such a delight! My family had a great time. There was a big exhibition on hard drugs which I appreciate. I love to explain and expose my young kids to this topic so that they can be aware of the dangers, and to teach them to make right choices. I liked it that they provided vital information like the Houston community outreach for the masses because not everyone knew about it. There were interactive activities and brain teasers around for kids and adults to play with. There was a lab for kids to do hands-on activities which you had to purchase a ticket for it. Ticket for entry into the lab isn't part of the general admission ticket. Today there was an event at the museum whereby the back of the museum and the theater were out of bounds. This was a bummer. There isn't a proper cafeteria in the museum. There are only two vending machines and two tables with chairs outside the restrooms. It is best to pack snacks for kids. There is paid parking in front of the museum. However free parking is available at Hermann Park. It is only a 2mins walk from the Hermann Park parking lot to the museum. read more

This is a relatively small museum with some great exhibits and an affordable entrance cost. I particularly liked the exhibits about drug abuse. There are pictures and displays from the originating countries to the cities in the USA. It would be an educational event for children as young as 8 or 10 (see pictures). read more

I came with the family so I think it was worth it for the kids but to me as an adult and even more as a health care provider I thought they would be more into actual education but it was just ok it had some activities for the kids and you could stretch your stay here for an hour if you're detailed but in reality this is about a 20-30 min stroll I guess I would come on Thursday when is free because even though the price isn't high still I felt a bit robbed, anyway my kids enjoyed it and it was enough for me. read more

The young man at the front desk was extremely rude and unhelpful. All of the staff we interacted with were clueless and unfriendly. The museum itself is really a waste of time. The Health Museum left more to be desired. (1) Compared to the Children's Museum or many of the other museums in Houston, it was only 1 floor of exhibits - could run through the facility in 30 min. I love going to museums, so this was on point for me with the pandemic going on. A few items are replicated from other museums, but I still enjoyed. Free parking across the street for the first 3hrs, I visited on a Saturday, so check the hrs. The cost was $10 to visit the museum. They do have the Blue Star for military free entry, but they stopped due to CoVid. This museum is for all, I actually learned a few things myself. Its interactive so take hand sanitizer if you decide to use the touch pads. Not a large museum but a great place to spend spends a few hrs or take your kids. We drove from Katy about an hour here. Kids super excited for something different. Parked and paid. When we got inside the museum informed us that almost everything was closed for maintenance and there was 1 thing to see. Uh okay, so it's free for the inconvenience? Nope. It's full price admission for the family. The audacity of this place. That should have been communicated online. Nobody's paying $ to walk around a closed, dead, ghost town. So first off it should be renamed the Children's Health Museum. It was definitely not what I was expecting and unfortunately I did not have little kids with me so it was not a great experience. I'm not happy to have paid $10 for my quick visit. It was very strange in that they had mostly kid exhibits and a big play area but then they had this in depth display of how a baby is born?? They also had a huge Covid death exhibit that was just a ton of pictures of people who died during covid- not very kid friendly and also not educational. And I must not forget the ridiculous exhibit on giant glass corn cobs- yeah you scratching your head too?? I wasn't sure why this was in the health museum and not an art museum... very strange. It took up a ton of space and again- not very educational. They did have a small part about polio vaccines and an iron lung which was cool to see. In my opinion the only good part of the museum. We were only there for an hour and that included looking in the gift shop. However I do recommend the gift shop- it had a lot of really cool stuff and I bought a couple gifts. Cool museum! If you've been to the smithsonian science museum in DC, a few areas are replicated. I enjoyed learning about some big health pandemics, diseases & trailblazers. Had lots of fun here. I came during a Yelp event, and my family and I had a wonderful time. The exhibits were amazing and quite interactive. I loved the movie room as well, as that was a different touch from the norm. I would say there's definitely something for everyone of all ages to enjoy. My son and I are sci-fy lovers and lowkey nerds, so we were like kids in a candy store in their gift shop. Pleenty of birthday/Christmas gift ideas for all ages that makes learning fun or just some great gag gifts as well. Do visit as you will not be disappointed. :D read more

I really like this museum, and my husband and I recently got a membership to The Health Museum. It's really reasonably priced, and they have the most experiential art-type exhibits compared to other museums. Regardless of age, this is a fun museum. We took my brother-in-law, who has CP, to the museum, and he enjoyed how his disability didn't keep him from enjoying and learning at the museum. Even my husband and I were entranced by the "puzzles" and "brain games." At one point, I even yelped (I had to) when I surprised myself by solving a brain puzzle in under 2 minutes! Needless to say, it's a great space that can be shared by all minds regardless of developmental level. What a gem in Houston's museum district. read more

This is place is definitely more geared towards kids so I think it is a great place for families! I came with my mom in hopes of it being more informative but it was more focused towards children. We did enjoy the area that spoke about the viruses and plagues that happened over the years. However most of the activities are for children but they all looked like they were having a great time! It was only ten dollars each ticket and there is parking right in front of the museum for only five dollars. The museum is based on the first floor! This museum is actually pretty cool. More so the fact that I never knew it existed! I like the life life life larger than life size diagrams and pictures and statues and fixtures. Very neat. I went to the area where you could test your sense of smell and everything was very very accurate. That was pretty cool. I believe it was fresh cut grass, cinnamon, roses, lemon, and something else... I don't remember... Oh yeah! Barbecue... LOL can't forget the food! ha ha The heart and the heart attack was actually kind of scary. LOL. All in all, if it wasn't so boisterous and full of energy and people socializing, I would have taken more time to really look and study the things. I may just have to come again to a quiet atmosphere so I can read all the information and whatnot. Keep it up! read more

A great place for kids and adults to learn while having fun. My family went specifically for the dyslexia and Covid-19 exhibits. Both exhibits were very educational. Personal experiences presented by recorded oral tapes from actual peoples diagnosied with dyslexia was excellent. There were were pictures of hundreds of Houstonians that lost their fights with Covid-19, very sad. There were also excellent presentations of various types of transmissable diseases. The fee was $10 for adult. I didn't ask for the kid fee since none was with us. Free 3 hours public parking across the street. read more

A Health museum, what a good idea, but wait a dumb downed Health museum that is only intended to teach children and not for everyone. I'm very interested in knowing why this Health museum hasn't had any concerns with updating anything. All the structures are old, so old that they've been there since I was a baby. I really hope since it being a Health museum that they are "health-conscious" and disinfect their models. So many children, parents, college students everywhere trying to get their hands on knowledge that is only intended for children. Houston needs to get with the program and open up an advanced Health museum because this is unacceptable. After 20 years, I would have hoped that something changed, but everything is the same - it is only the paid admission for the special exhibitions is where the excitement is. How unfortunate. I really expected with the advancement of the Texas Medical Center that the only Health museum would be up to date. Things that need to be changed: -update the free exhibit -Houston really needs a more advanced health museum, instead of this. -disinfect the models -fix the broken and faded items in the free exhibit I won't be returning and especially not on the free museum days - too much people in such cramped space. We learned about a lot of things in regards to health that some stuff i didn't know too much about. My daughter really enjoyed herself and got to experience new things about nutrition. This was my second favorite museum on my mini tour around the museum district. Even though they charged 8.00 dollars a person it was well worth it. With the paid admission is a ticket to the 4d Theatre. The day I went it was a cheesy bit on "Planet You". Even though it was cheesy it was intersting. It was longer than most rides at amusment parks and cheaper. The theatre is clean and up to date. I could tell this museum was new because all of the exhibits were working. Yes working, a lot of places have broken exhibits. This place had all interactive exhibits with audio and animation. Another great thing about this museum is you can take pictures! I'm totally a photo whore and being told not to take pictures all day got really annoying. But the best part of this place were the puzzles. The puzzles were very challenging. I spent awhile in this section just doing all of them. After, spending almost an hour in this section alone I had to walk away with some puzzles still unsolved. read more
