I want to take a moment to thank the staff at Northside Hospital Gwinnett, especially the PC Unit…read more1200. First, I want to recognize the Emergency Room staff. They were prompt and immediately saw about my mother, Miss Dennis, and made sure she was admitted and received the attention she needed. In moments like that, quick action means everything to a family. I also want to recognize the attending physician, Dr. Herschel W. Smith, who admitted my mother to the PC Unit. He was amazing. He saw the need for immediate care and made sure my mother was taken care of and placed where she needed to be. His attention and action made a real difference for our family. One nurse stood out the most -- Nurse Charlize. She truly understood her assignment. During a very stressful time while my mother was being cared for, I had many questions and a lot of emotions. Even when there were things she could not answer because she wasn't the doctor, she reassured me and helped calm my spirit. She listened, not just as a nurse but as a compassionate human being. I was even able to share some personal things that were weighing on me, and she took the time to hear me. That kind of care matters more than people realize. I have been a private nurse in the state of Georgia for 26 years and have worked with many families, including some of the wealthiest in Buckhead. I left that work to care for my own mother, and I know firsthand that true caregiving requires passion, patience, and heart. Nurse Charlize showed all of those qualities. To the doctors, I apologize if my frustration showed. I just wished I had understood more about my mother's condition sooner rather than waiting many hours for answers. But I appreciate that the team continued working toward the best care. Moments like these reveal people's character. When someone is frustrated, it takes a special person not to respond with the same energy. Nurse Charlize handled everything with professionalism and grace. Thank you, Northside, for caring not only for my mother but also for the family standing beside the patient. That compassion matters. -- Author M. Clark

11/12/2025: Consultation with Dr. Bruner for accidents that left my entire upper-back in constant…read morepain, bicep & wrist weakness, numb & tingly fingers. MRI showed 4 cervical herniated discs, but he recommended 1-level fusion (since he's performed ~4000 fusions & ~40 ADRs). Being young and otherwise healthy, I'm anti-fusion and advocated for artificial disc replacement. Unsure if Dr. Bruner is biased/had outdated information, but he assured me that fusion DOESN'T limit mobility & that FDA only approves of 1-level ADR [untrue]. To my distaste, Dr. Bruner downplayed the difficulty of performing each surgery & mentioned how surgery makes him money. I don't play about my pain and health issues, so he eventually agreed to do ADR on my C5-6 *emphasis on C5-6* 12/18/2025 Surgery Day: I arrived at Northside 9:30am and was in pre-op for HOURS hooked up to dilaudid IV, then Dr. Bruner walks into my room saying "Ready to replace C6-7? If I cannot access C6-7 to replace, can I do a fusion there instead?" I rejected the fusion and replied "I thought we were only replacing C5-6". He checks his notes then said "Oh, you're right. I usually don't apologize but I'm sorry." Ultimately, Dr. Bruner canceled my surgery b/c my "MRI was too old" (which he should've mentioned AT LAST MONTH'S CONSULTATION), ordered me to get new MRI, and wanted to reschedule surgery to next week. Once again, Dr. Bruner suggested that I be "open-minded to fusion" & mentioned gladly performing my surgery b/c it is easy and will put money into his pockets. I urged the importance of doing my surgery soon since the new year was approaching, meaning I would have different health insurance (Kaiser Permanente) and would have to restart the whole process again. He promised that if I get ADR surgery at Emory (under KP), he would refer me to trusted fellow neurosurgeons. I left the hospital at 4:30pm after SEVEN HOURS of NOTHING. My boyfriend was also there and witnessed this ordeal. 12/24/2025: Scheduler called me to reschedule surgery date and got annoyed that I was hesitant to follow through after my TERRIBLE experience with Dr. Bruner. Her tone was like I should be grateful that Dr. Bruner is willing to take time out of his Christmas vacation to operate on me AS IF IT WASN'T HIS FAULT IN THE FIRST PLACE. 1/2026: I chose the Emory route but Dr. Bruner refused to refer me to an Emory surgeon, lol who would've thought! TLDR: RUN !!! I've been in-and-out of doctors' offices for the past 4 years, and this is BY FAR the WORST healthcare experience I've EVER had. Dr. Bruner lives up to the negative neurosurgeon stereotypes (derogatory), Advanced Neurosurgery Associate front-desk lady is rude, surgery scheduler is rude. If helping people makes you miserable, then get another job! Only Toni the PA and the medsurg tech were pleasant.

Just yesterday I commented to my husband that this office was such a pleasure to visit. Every worker, whether they are front desk, nurse, assistant, and including Dr. Fonger are all welcoming, efficient, and always willing to answer any questions I have. My varicose veins started at a young age for me, I'm guessing late 20's since I experienced a bulging vein that was visible around that time. I visited Vein Clinics of America and thought my problem was corrected. Fast forward 15+ years and I began to notice several bulging veins. I made an appointment at a reputable office. I consulted with the doctor who told me to wear compression stocking for 6 months and then re-visit because this is what insurance required. I asked if compression stockings reversed thrombosis and she said no, but we have to follow the treatment that insurance requires. This seemed silly to me since it did not reverse the problem, only assisted with circulation that will eventually diminish more over time regardless if you wear compression stockings or not. I ended my relationship there and researched other clinics. Thankfully, I found CVR and made an appointment in May of 2023. They scanned my legs, marked the trouble areas and then Dr. Fonger came in to discuss treatment. I explained that I thought the vein closures he discussed had been treated previously with ultra-sound guided chemical ablation but unfortunately, this procedure only produced scar tissue in some areas but did not shut down the vein as intended. Once he reviewed the treatment plan with me, I moved forward with scheduling my treatments. My treatment plan was scheduled the same day but for a few months out. I had travel plans over the summer and did not want to try and work around them so I started after Labor Day. After my initial visit, I received a letter from my insurance carrier that the treatment was not approved and they needed further documentation. I planned to contact CVR to discuss, but then received another letter a few days later from my carrier that the decision had been appealed and the treatment plan was approved. All of this took place without one phone call or interaction with me, the office handled it all. My treatment started Sept 7, 2023 and I have several appointments throughout the month. I will follow up and edit the review once I am complete on Sept 26. But, as far as the 4 procedures I have completed, it has been a pleasant experience each time. Zero complaints!

He will spend about 5 minutes with you, then leave to go to his next appt. I have decided MY time is worth more than that. He's good at what he does, but I'm not willing to wait forever to see him. I schedule appts to see Diana Dean (his assistant in all his surgeries). She is very good and sees you quickly. If you need surgery, you will end up getting the surgery by Dr Levengood, but you don't have to spend your time waiting to see him in the begining. This way, it's a WIN/WIN situation. Diana is very, very nice and knowledgeable. I never schedule with Dr Levengood anymore if I can possible avoid it.

Dr. Goodno was the answer. I ventured up to this office location to have an MRI done, along with an injection for contrast. Had a minor bump with scheduling my MRI but that was the only issue. Clean facility, with ample waiting room space. They got me back very quickly (wait time was maybe 5 minutes). Dr. Goodno performed the injection prior to my MRI appointment, and came in earlier to accommodate me so I could do the injection and then get slotted into the MRI immediately following that injection. I'm not a fan of needles but his bedside manner was great and talked through the process of the injection, along with the ultrasound to ensure the contrast hit the right spot. The MRI wasn't bad. Got earplugs and was able to finally doze off some after 10 minutes. It was supposed to be 45 minutes but it felt like 20 minutes. The MRI tech was friendly. I do wish I had some music during it. Overall process here was very quick and efficient. I was in and out in less than an hour. Would certainly recommend!
