Even though it was a Sunday and their was only one person working, he knew enough about the products that they had on show to answer all our questions, even if that meant diving in to the computer to get out the nitty details. He was more than confident enough with their product range to give us some quiet thinking time as we pondered our options and basically got "hands on" with what was going to be another hole in the credit card. The have a great range of gear and are more than happy to order stuff in for you if they don't have it. Their prices are competitive. In short, this bloke had a great experience with them and if they were closer, they would be servicing all my bikes!

The atmosphere is friendly and interested, which is great because I'm easily put off when I go into a store and I feel like I'm being pushed into a sale or buying extras. I ended up walking out of the store with the bike that I had enquired about on the phone, with a lot of confidence in my purchase, and a few freebies that had been thrown in as well! I rang the distributor of this particular bike and was told it was a two-week wait to get it looked at. TWO WEEKS?! Ain't nobody got time for that. So I set off down Lygon Street, hoping that the friendly fellow at Bikes Please might be able to help. He did. Upon looking at my bike he instantly knew what was wrong and took it into his shed. 10 minutes later he rode back out, pumped up my tires, tweaked a few gears and sent me on my way. "But let me give you money!" I screamed. He would only take $5 off me, saying it was an easy gig and he couldn't possibly charge me anymore. Easy or no, that level of customer service has ensured that I will be a repeat customer to Bikes Please anytime something goes wrong. A general fix-up of your bike will only set you back around $35 regardless. Fast, efficient and friendly are three unbeatable characteristics of any local business. Bravo.

I was given a good chance to test ride two of the bikes that interested me which made my choice easier still. Finally, nothing beats talking to passionate, genuinely helpful staff who just like seeing people getting into cycling. It makes me so happy when a store's great customer service fuels inspiring conversation. It's just a great feeling to have as you leave the store. I was given a nice invitation to return to the store with two free services for my new bike and an ongoing discount on accessories. I will be very happy to return.

A store that sells both bicycles and espresso? In Melbourne?…read more Suspend your disbelief for one small moment, my friends, and listen as I tell you- such a place really exists. "It's not possible!" I hear you say, "There's no market for it! Melbourne has no people that like both single origin beans and (very expensive) bespoke bicycles!" Well, stranger, you're about as right as Bob Brown. Mosey on down to Camberwell Train station and saunter across the road to find this spandex-clad cafe hiding just down Auburn Parade. As one veers toward the veneer of this vivacious velocipede vestibule it's visage vividly expresses the services available: BICYCLES AND COFFEE. Fans of animal collective, U-locks and penguin classics no doubt reach self-actualization as they are confronted with gleaming espresso machines and spandex-clad movember stragglers upon entrance. The floor space is mainly given over to bicycle frames worth more or less as much as a decent family car, with a communal table staffed by extras from a Richard Simmons workout video. The coffee itself was extremely presentable- opting with a house blend ristretto I was not disappointed. Served in a blur of some of the most powerful barista-fu I've seen in some time, the crema came out very sweet with a bold, full, tart body. My breast-ridden associates opted to conform to the latte maxim, an art obviously mastered by the devilishly handsome barista on shift. Although I prefer to take my coffee neat, the milk in this case was extremely light and creamy, with a perfect temperature- surprisingly sourced from our old friend Paul. That guy can steam my milk any day. As the communal table was full of what seemed to be J. M. Barrie's lost boys in tight pants we were offered the outside seating- six double stacked milk crates and a small table nailed to the wall in a cramped alley out the back. This arrangement may sound like festering shithole of a place to sit, but was surprisingly pleasant in the afternoon sun. Visit Bike Gallery for average beans made great by a decent machine served by Calvin Klein models. Or, take out a mortgage to buy yourself a carbon-fiber-titanium-alloy pushbike so you can leave your wife at home and wear extremely tight clothing and shave your legs and ride around on pushbikes and sip coffee from tiny cups with other 40 year old men on the weekend. No homo.
