They opened their house to the neighborhood children who often didn't have enough to eat or needed a safe place. On a side note regarding the post on Chinese New years, all the Christians I know in China and Taiwan celebrate Chinese New Years because it's a time to connect with family and friends and to share and tell them how much you love them. It's not easy being Christian in China and some of them have given up professions, suffered persecution, and are barely scrapping by, but they celebrate Chinese New Years....maybe differently from others....like with prayer and church services along with visiting family, feeding and helping the poor and witnessing to them. Chinese Christians definitely celebrate and share Christ's love during the two week national celebration!

To my surprise, St. Michaels was very different than other Catholic parishes I've attended. This church is diverse, vibrant and welcoming. The homilies/sermons are very powerful and uplifting. It didn't take long before we decided to call St. Michaels our parish. We continued to attend Mass on a regular basis, and eventually celebrated the sacrament of marriage at this church. The spiritual guidance that I have received throughout the years from our pastor, Monsignor Eddie Tolentino has helped me tremendously in my relationship with God. Even in the small groups they promote that feeling is not there either. I'm not sure if people are cynical, closed off from past hurts, overworked, or what, but it shows. It makes you want to keep a healthy distance. I think there is a lot of good here and many people here have hearts for God and for people. AND I can't help but notice that a chunk of them could use some serious attitude adjustments. It reflects poorly not only on them but on the church as well. I know it's hard to serve AND 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 shares that we should give cheerfully not reluctantly or under compulsion. This is not just money but time as well. Not following this scripture typically produces bitterness and bad attitudes. The Bible also states in Luke 6:45 that "out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks". I think it might be time for some heart checks. If you don't want to serve, don't or make it a point to get to a place where you can do it cheerfully. Ask the Holy Spirit to work in you, tap into it. It is not God's will for you to serve and exude negativity. I don't want to negate all the good the church does because it does do a lot of good and I did want to bring this to the forefront because it is an issue that should be spoken on. God Bless!

Their pastor was about to go on vacation for 1 month and this was his last time preaching until his return. The service was lively! They had liturgical dancers, a combined choir, accompanied by drummers, organists, guest vocalists, and even a bongo player. It was communion Sunday so everything was "short & sweet", but I still got the message. It was a great message for a rainy Sunday. Even at communion, things went smoothly. (You get your choice of Red or White for the communion wine...) I will definitely return to Mount Jezreel Baptist Church, and not just for the choice in communion wines.
