Luis and the LCG team did a great job replacing the roof on our new house in Torrance. We found him through his great reviews online, both on Yelp and Reddit. He was very responsive and offered the most competitive quote up front, which is why we chose LCG over other options. My wife and I were deciding on our shingles up until the last minute, and Luis was very accommodating, promptly leaving samples at our door and even referring us to nearby houses so we could check out the colors. We were also on a tight schedule, coordinating the roofing around other contractors. Luis and team were flexible to our needs and completed ahead of schedule. Luis was very responsive to follow-ups as well. Our back door screen was ripped during the install. Once we brought it to Luis' attention, he promptly sent someone out to replace the screen. He also returned with a small crew for 1-2 other spot repairs after we noticed some fascia/rafter tails that had been left unprimed. The city inspector complimented us on the quality of the roof work, and mentioned that he had been impressed with the LCG roofing work he had been inspecting around town. -- Note -- We did have to work through a misunderstanding on pricing. If your roof needs any spot repairs to the underlying decking, I'd highly recommend you discuss MAXIMUM COST with Luis at the time of your estimate. In our case, the initial LCG estimate listed a per-sheet (plywood) and per-foot (1x6) cost for spot repairs. It also listed a flat-rate cost if the "whole roof needed new plywood." As first time homeowners, we understood this large flat rate to mean the maximum cost if all the decking needed replacement, so we interpreted this as an upper bound to the quote. Unfortunately, after completing spot repairs on our roof (only replacing 20-30% of the decking), Luis sent us an updated invoice for decking that was actually ABOVE the aforementioned "all new plywood" price (which, again, we thought was the maximum we would pay). Honestly, we were shocked and upset. Luis explained that the "full replacement" quote was only for plywood, and didn't apply to the 1x6 decking that our roof needed. What was also confusing was that we couldn't really make sense of his footage used based on the square footage of the roof, and the amount we had seen replaced. After some back and forth, Luis did ultimately offer to meet us in the middle, and cut several thousand off of the change order. I'm still leaving 5 stars because we did chalk it up to an honest misunderstanding based on the materials needed, and Luis was responsive as we tried to work through it together. However, I'd encourage anyone working with Luis just to discuss this in more detail in advance. Besides the decking, all of the other pricing factors were very straightforward and transparent! Wow! What a crew that Luis has assembled! Not only did Luis come quickly to give me an estimate, he took his pad of paper and his tape measure up to the roof and gave me his estimate on the spot. He also explained how the wood repair pricing worked so I wouldn't be surprised when the final invoice came. When it came to start work, I was prepared for several days of disruption, but it only took 2 days to reroof and repair my ~1500 sq ft house with a 2-car detached garage. I am super relieved to learn that the majority of your customers are with SCE and didn't have to deal with the frustration of not being able to receive a qualifying invoice. For the record, Cool Roof rebate "funding is limited and rebates are not guaranteed. This program shall at all times be subject to change or termination without notice." It's a first come first serve basis and time is of the essence. I waited a very long time before posting an update. After all, how hard is it just to receive an invoice for actual services rendered? In my case, they already reviewed the application and gave me until 9/23 to resubmit with the requested documentation; it's not accurate to state that the deadline is 12/31/24. I had given up after you chose to disregard my request for a corrected invoice. In either case, thank you. In the past I have rarely awarded 5 stars to any company, and have wondered whether a business that gets a 5-star rating really deserves it. I have given a 5-star rating to LCG for a number of reasons: - Solid quality of work done in a very timely way, meaning that work began on a specified day and was completed within the estimated time (roof replaced, patio roof taken down, and some skylight work done within 5 days, including obtaining permit and two city inspections) - Highly competitive quote that included careful assessment of all roofing elements (skylight issue, for instance, which no other bidder noted. Of course I had the option to not pay for that repair if I wanted) - Extremely responsive - Luis provided a quote I think same-day as visit, texted/called me if there was anything needed (but did not bug me incessantly unlike other contractors), was always available by phone, very much a problem-solver - I had only very courteous and constructive exchanges with Luis - He has good rapport with city regulators - an issue was discovered due to past work that I knew had been done. LCG was able to work with the inspector so he could recommend a course of remedial action--but the ultimate outcome was that the roofing work was completed to everyone's satisfaction. Another reviewer noted that the cost of the project can exceed the quote, and I echo her in saying that it's really helpful to ask for a range estimate, since there can be unexpected problem discovery. Yes, this happened here for certain wood elements (that are not visible until the roof comes off) but was not excessive and I have no reason to think this was not warranted. Yes, roofing work is going to be expensive. But I feel lucky that my experience with LCG was excellent and the work quality sound--I would engage them again if needed, and recommend them to others. read more
