I went to the Cache Airfest at Logan airport to see the two new Cirrus aircraft. I spoke with the folks at Leading Edge Aviation and booked a discovery flight in the SR22 with Zach Zimmerman for the next week. Zach is a superb instructor and made my intro to this high performance aircraft an absolute joy. He answered all my questions, gave very good feedback on my flying (I was rusty, hadn't logged any flying time in several years) and demonstrated several advanced avionics features. Had the pleasure of dealing with LE Aviation for maintenance and pick up of my aircraft. Mitchell and the maintenance team were thorough and precise with the pre-buy inspections and subsequent repairs on the aircraft. As an authorized Cirrus Repair Center we had our annual inspection performed here before bringing our new SR22T home. (Almost 4K) Unfortunately they left the Turbo induction tube loose and we experienced loss of power over the mountains. Thankfully did not pull the chute but got it to another repair center. That Platinum Cirrus repair center identified additional hose claps loose, direct result of being inspected but not put back on properly as well as other things missed. Choose your shop carefully for any repair or inspections! read more

Last Sunday I went on a Discovery Flight with Greg from Leading Edge Aviation. During our visit with Greg we learned about flight check procedures, how airplanes fly, and then we jump aboard and learned how to fly the plane. I took the pilot's seat in a Cessna 172S with full glass cockpit form Garmin. Greg helped me taxi down the run away and with the proper clearances were took off and were in the air. I was at the controls with Greg right beside me (with his own controls) the whole flight but I was flying the plane, making the turns, moving the rudder position to increase or decrease our altitude, and even bringing us around to land. The flight was AWESOME and I think I caught a little of the aviation bug. I was so thrilled by the whole experience I am even thinking about getting my pilot's license. Leading Edge is one of the premier flight schools in Utah and is a great place to experience the wonder of flying or to get your license. read more

Very EXPENSIVE, much more so than my previous school. At least double what I would've spent with my private pilot school. They nickel and dime you on all sorts of stuff. Let's talk about scheduling instructors and planes! NIGHTMARE. You have to schedule AT LEAST a month in advance. When you near the end of one rating, scheduling gets especially tricky. If you don't pass the intermediate and final checks with the school (before your actual checkride), it equals more training and delayed scheduling. This puts follow-on training on stand-by, further exacerbating the scheduling issues. My training with them took almost 3 times what it should've, mostly because of the scheduling issues. I have no complaints with ANY of the instructors whatsoever, they were all fantastic. The school itself is the problem. Policies are set up to milk you for all your worth. The students' welfare is not considered in the existing policies. They are all meant to burn you. I have regretted my decision to switch EVERY DAY SINCE!!! Been done with them for a while, and glad I am. There are several good, small schools available where you won't have these kinds of issues. Look into them 1st. I was very happy with my private experience. Only switched because I wanted, "glass cockpit" instrument training. It cost me dearly. Run away from this school. read more
