If you've never been to Paris... it has hands down the best cafés in the world. Period. Yet, you'll also discover that many cafés open later in the mornings. So to avoid early morning disappointment plan ahead. Fortunately Le Savio was located just around the corner from my Bed & Breakfast in the Madeleine District. Le Savio can be described as a fancy coffee shop, as the decor dictates, and the baristas are more cultured (if that makes any sense lol). If you know, you know;). French spoken here but if versed in the basics of "bonjour", "croissant", and "café latté" you need not worry. I arrive at 7:00am, hoping to get a bite before my first showing at the Louvre. Parisians already fill the counter, from blue collar to those in haute couture. I manage to find a seat at the end. My senses immediately pick up the rich aroma of freshly brewed French coffee and I notice a fresh basket of croissants. Ahhh. I order my "chocolat croissant" and "café latté" s'il te plaît. I'm in Heaven... In the end, I recommend Le Savio for those looking for exquisite coffee. It's not your traditional café per se and I'm led to believe that it really picks up for the lunch menu. Perhaps. I don't know as I became a regular only in the early morning hours. Oh! si tu pouvais lire dans mon coeur, tu verrais la place où je t'ai mise! Ahh Paris...

Somewhat crowded. They have several variety of sandwiches in baguettes. I choose a quiche Lorraine and the soup of the day (cauliflower). The quiche was fine but the soup had zero taste. I am a cauliflower fan and I couldn't stomach finishing this soup. To top it all, I was hungry. A second visit is not necessary.

The croissants are so light, they seemingly float in your hand. The exterior is nicely crisp. The interior is buttery and held together by gossamer sheets of perfectly baked dough. To be honest, I had croissant fatigue before arriving, tossing croissants after 2 bites at subpar boulangeries. At Madison Dupay, I ate 3 in one sitting and ended up my search for a truly wonderful croissant. I should note the strong old-world feel - complete with dim lighting, stoic French grandmother behind the counter, thicc tarts that look sculpted by Rodin, and a choice of strong burnt coffee or strong burnt coffee. Wonderful!
