This shop on Brick Lane was a great find for a light breakfast. Located in the midst of the street…read moremarket and the specialty shops that give Brick Lane its character, this establishment has a more work-a-day simplicity by comparison, yet is still extremely popular. It is strictly takeaway as there is really no place to sit and eat. The small shop is very straightforward with just a deli-like counter from which to see the goods and order. We were there on a very busy Saturday morning. We queued up in a line of people that extended out the door. They were pretty good about keeping the line moving, however, and we placed our order within 6 or 7 minutes of joining the queue. My wife had a Peanut Butter-Filled Plain Bagel, which she liked quite a lot. I had Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese on an Everything Bagel. It was very good. The service was very efficient and reasonably pleasant and the prices were quite fair. We will go back if we ever have the chance to do so in the future.

They are best known for their salt beef bagels. At the front, in their store window, premade salt beef bagels are ready to be fixed with either or both mustard and pickles. Various pastries/desserts are displayed in their counter ready to go. Note: no table seating inside, just counter tops. Ordered : Salt beef bagel- bagel warm, generous amounts of salt beef, mustard, and sliced pickles. The bagel was over slathered with a horseradish mustard, so much, that it overpowered the taste of the beef. Smoked salmon bagel without cream cheese- underwhelming. Bagel was cold and hard. I did not eat the top half of the bagel. Minimal amount of smoked salmon. The girl behind the counter looked like she could care less to be there and wasn't super friendly or helpful. All in all, happy to have tried it, not sure I'd come back again for more ...

Fresh bagels in a variety of flavors with a long list of toppings. The glass case displays everything and most of it looks really fresh. The bagels I've had have been pretty good, considering this isn't New York. ;-) I've tried the egg mayonnaise (Americans call it "egg salad") on a wheat bagel and a ham and cheese on the multi-seeded bagel and both were good. They have coffee and other beverages, but I don't have enough hands to juggle that too. Because it's all prepared as you order it, have a little patience because it can take a few minutes to toast the bagel and add your toppings. And if you've ordered a latte or cappucino, that will take a bit longer.

I had a toasted bagel with salt beef, cheese, rockets and tomato and gherkin which was delicious and filling. There were offers of bagels with drinks giving a small discount with orange juice or hot drink plus soup of the day and a good selection of cakes, muffins etc.

Some of the staff can be a bit short, but on the whole they're friendly enough. They've got tables now to make it a little more cafe style but there are some things (mostly beef related) that they don't allow to be eaten in store. Most of their pastries look good and the ones that I've tried are tasty if a little stodgy. Not being close to a tube station, I don't visit that often but if given the chance, they're one of the better bakeries out there.

Nice thing about this place is that they have a large variety of pastries and bread, as well as several big coolers with prepared sandwiches, egg salad, cream cheese, etc., and they don't run out of bread in the late afternoon like some bakeries. Wish I could pay with a car for transactions under 10 pounds though. I don't get why that's such a problem everywhere. I mean, ffs, just charge me the extra 20p for the transactions costs or whatever, don't make me waste 15 minutes of my time walking to a nearby ATM.
