The main course section looked so American though: steak, scallops, burgers. Come on, burgers in the main meal list, really? And that's the dinner menu I'm talking about. I asked for recommendations on something that's not American and the waiter (owner?) suggested the most expensive meal. No bueno. When I got it it was a typical American style steak, nothing French about it. Doh! And the steak was not tender. He also suggested the most expensive wine. A lot of Brits seem to come here. Even though the hotel reception recommended this restaurant I would not recommend it to my friends. Not impressed.

Where to start with one of my favorite restaurants in the French Alps? It is located in Plagne 1800, just across the piste from the main road and within easy stumbling / sledging distance back to your chalet. The ease of access does depend on the snow depth, after a heavy snow fall you may have to wade through the powder, but usually the owners cut a path through to the front doors. The building its self is a rustic log building typical of La Plagne from its years as a mining community. The interior is traditional, with open log fires and simple wooden furniture and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. The menu has many local delicacies such as the Piere Chaud or 'Hot Rock', Cheese fondue or raclette. After you have had your fill in the restaurant make sure you head next door to the sports bar which has the most bizarre interior of any bar in La Plagne. When your ready for bed its only a short walk, but if you ask very nicely the owners may even take you home on their snowmobile!

I think…read morethe food gods were calling our ski crew when we were magically placed ten feet between the entrance of this amazing joint and our home for the week! We managed to enjoy our last day here with an amazing 29 euro prix fix lunch! The quality of the food was super fresh. Lynch was in the more casual cafe area of this restaurant. Dinner is upstairs in the fancier dining room. But this is perfect because for lunch most people are rolling in casual either partly in ski gear or in jeans. The duck rillette that I had came in a jar and was so tasty esp with the perfect baguette. There was a decent amount to choose from in the lunch menu. We paired it with an excellent bottle of Beaujolais! Definitely want to come back for the tasting menu dinner the next time we're in Val D'Isere. This is the reason why we come back year after to year to ski in the French Alps.
