Great hotel with small but chic rooms. The two standout elements of this hotel are it's location just off of Place du Capitole and the hotel staff. Our standard double room was small with a comfortable bed and nice finishes, I loved the coffee maker in the room! Place du Capitole is a major square with tons of shopping, markets, fast casual dining options, as well as some cafes. The streets surrounding the hotel are full of shops, and if you walk a few blocks up Rue du Taur you'll find yourself at the Basilique Saint-Sernin de Toulouse. There is also a Metro stop very close to the hotel. As to the hotel staff, they were very kind and welcoming when we arrived and check-in was quick. When asked on the fly for restaurant recommendations the concierge suggested two restaurants and called both to make us a reservation on a busy Friday night. Her recommendation was great and we really enjoyed our dinner. I would certainly stay here again! One cautionary observation regarding parking, driving in this part of Toulouse is insane. It looks like you are just driving in a pedestrian area, but there is in fact a traffic lane. With all of the people in the Palace du Capitole square and with the roadway as poorly marked as it is, finding the sign to the Capitole public parking garage is next to impossible. This is partially because the sign for it is on the ground and hard to see. I suggest looking at google maps first to orient yourself in terms of the square so you can see where the hotel is in relation to where the entrance to the parking garage is. read more

What makes or breaks a hotel? Nice bed? Friendly staff? Cute bar? Nope. WiFi. And the WiFi here just doesn't work. Worse yet, we had a meeting scheduled here too! Took them a whole day of setting up not one but two other networks for the WiFi to be barely functional. Ya sorry. It's got all the other good points but I can't imagine coming back just for the lack of connectivity. read more

A big disappointment for anyone believing that this is a 5-star hotel. Paid a premium price for a "suite" (really just a weirdly-shaped room) that had no working wi-fi (which was an enormous problem because i needed to have a quiet place for a long zoom call), and stained carpets and furniture. Room was reasonably clean but the glassware was filthy (glad i didn't drink out of it). Got to enjoy the sound of hall doors slamming all night long. Service was reasonably accommodating (and i don't think my complaints are really their fault), but at a price of nearly $400/night (on a Monday night), surely you can do much better in Toulouse. But if you want to overpay for a 2-star hotel, this is your place. read more

Nothing to complain (and that´s very unusual ;) ) The Grand Balcon is "as central a hotel can be", direcly located @the Place Du Capitole. The hotel has kept his charme and mixed an architecture of deco style together with classical elemts. The entrance + lounge is speaking for itself... Staff is very friendly and english skilled. The rate is good for such place and some rates do offer a very nice breakfest. Try to get one of the upper level rooms, or a room facing the backyard, as the Toulouse folks are partying till late during summer time and it can be a bit noisy. Again; nothing to complain, a clear recommendation!!!! read more

This is an amazing little boutique hotel near the heart of Toulouse France. If you're going to be spending any time in the city I definitely would recommend considering this hotel. It's by no means the cheapest place to stay, but given the service and amenities offered, it's a pretty good value. Word to the wise - pay the modest increase to get an upgraded room, because the regular rooms are on the small side and that little bit extra makes quite a difference. read more

We drove to the Hotel. We followed the GPS instructions and my mother read the details from the email. Our Satnav worked, but we missed, 3x the entrance to the car park associated with the Hotel. Because of the 1-way pedestrianised system this meant about 45 minutes slowly driving around the heart of Toulouse. A beautiful city, but I'd rather see it on foot. When we eventually found the crowded, underground, expensive (€26 for our 1 night) hotel car park entrance (on right hand side of road) we left our luggage in the trunk and went in search of the Hotel. About 500 yards away, up some stairs - the car park does not have a lift for the first floor. Fabulous Hotel location. The extremely pretty waif in 4 in heals at reception asked us to 'wait' when we asked for help getting our luggage from the car to the room. She disappeared for a few minutes. There was nowhere to sit in reception, My mother is 78 and was clearly tired and worried. I hugged her and joked that if the waif was going to help with our luggage, I hope she changed shoes. The waif returned in flat boots, asked us to follow her and strode out the hotel. Mum couldn't keep up with her pace, she didn't look over her shoulder to notice we were having trouble following her. I walked at mums pace and said it was ok, the waif would find us. Is it possible to deliver a smile to cover frustration and irritation? That's what the smile that the waif delivered to us looked like as she waited for us to catch up. Luckily I'd memorised the car parking place number. I told the Waif and she strode off in the wrong direction. Mum and I took the direct route to the car. We all arrived together. We had 4 bags, 3 airplane carry on size and one larger case for mums optional holiday clothing. At our last hotel the hotel porter had lifted all 4 bags at reception and walked with them to the hotel car which took us to our car in the car park. Here, the waif took my mothers large bag, I carried my own two bags and my mother carried her carry on. We followed the waif. Who strode out. We didn't tip her when we got to the room because she'd added to the stress rather than dispersing it with the empathy and care I'd expect from a hotel of this price. She was very pretty, her English was good. The inside of this classic, historical hotel has been completely gutted in favour of a chic boutique look. Very classy chic boutique look. Emphasis on LOOK. Like the surly-smiling waif on reception. No porter. Details that took the shine off the room included but, alas, were not limited to 1) Poorly lit corridors. The dim light, couple with my mothers failing eyesight made it difficult for her to find her way. She felt this was a fire risk and didn't understand the aesthetic of the darkness. Like a cinema 2) no tea bags, milk or kettle in the room. These things are essential for English comfort and were provided in all our previous French Hotels. There was a Nespresso machine. I gather this is classy. My mother and I don't drink coffee and have never used this type of machine. 3) opaque glass window between bathroom and main bedroom. When my mother, got up to per in the night, the light streamed into the room where I tried to sleep. 4) No waist height surface in the bathroom to place your washing on - the pretty basin stood alone I'll try not to mention the other, pedantic, details that bothered us once this overall negative impression was set rolling, things like the drawer handle being upside down, and the skinny twin beds. Breakfast? In the Bar by the entrance. Fabulously stylish seating for lounging on, not for sitting forward to eat from. TEA! Yes they had black tea, water was in a kettle that hadn't been boiled before being bought out. I turned on the kettle and sited as other guests filed by using the pre-warmed milk for their coffee. I felt gawky. The food was fine. When leaving, I made 2 journeys to the car taking my bags, taking my mums bags. I didn't ask the hotel staff for help. They didn't have the insight or awareness to offer. I didn't fancy following the surly waif, the journey was more peaceful on my own and my mother could spend the time washing. I highly recommend this hotel for someone young, without a car, interested in pretty, surly, staff (I suspect flirting would improve their service ability), who travels light, doesn't love old architecture, and isn't addicted to tea. Clean modern Hotel in an older building in Tolouse centre. The rooms are small but efficient. Very European in that regard. No restaurant but a nice bar downstairs. No parking or valet and driving here is difficult. If you have a car you must negotiate some tiny streets and after dropping luggage park a few blocks away in a public car park. The hotel is on the place du Capitole and near restaurants and shopping as well as the metro which is easy to use. read more

Stayed here for one night before catching a flight back home to the states. Everything was great from start to finish. The reception ladies were very nice and professional (spoke perfect english). The room was great and walking distance to many fantastic restaurants. They have a great lounge area with really cool bar. I would highly recommend for the price and will most certainly stay here again when I come back to Toulouse. read more

I definitely recommend this hotel. Great room, very friendly staff, fantastic location! The hotel is located right off one of the main squares and every day while we were here, there was a loud music concert. Each night, we were surprised (and happy) to discover that we couldn't hear any of the noise from the street in our room (we had a room overlooking the small cour). Location + sound-proof, nice rooms + amazing staff = wonderful stay in Toulouse!! read more
