When we arrived in Paris, we realized they also have a restaurant here as well and quickly made reservations to ensure we got a spot. This location is a lot easier to find than the one in Japan. Being Canadian, we chose to dine at the earliest time - 7pm which was pretty much when they were in the middle of prepping all the food. Staff here mostly speak Japanese or French and only a couple of the staff member speaks a bit of English. They only serve the 45 euro fixed price menu here for 7-8 dishes so you don't have too many options here. The staff explains what's in every dish they serve you and are quick to notice when you are done your dish so they can serve you the next one. I must say they modified the menu here to cater to the French with items like foie gras sushi and having their dishes be more rich in flavour opposes to the light flavours we experienced in Japan. All in all it was still a great meal, but I only gave it 4 stars because I prefer the japan location more since it was better value (more dishes) and more authentic in taste :)

I had been scoping this place out for a while and I was able to finally stop by today just after getting home from the airport. I guess I had to be sufficiently exhausted and at the same time adventurous to give in to the call of the 'PHO' sign in front. Full disclosure: I love pho and having been introduced to it in DC in the mid 90s, I have tried almost every notable spot in the DC metro area and consider myself a pho snob. This place is a 'Traiteur Asiatique' which means they have pre-prepared Asian dishes behind glass and you pick what you want and they heat it up for you. Usually not a good call. The seating area in the back is sparse but very much in line with most other Vietnamese restaurants from back home. There was a pitcher of water on every table, knock-off Sriracha (not even close to the real thing), a bottle of soy sauce (or fish sauce - I didn't try it), and a jar of the crushed chili peppers (pretty good stuff). You will get a little container of hoisin sauce that is not very comparable to anything stateside other than its brown and sweet. But many people tend to stay away from this anyways. I ordered the pho and didn't try to add or subtract anything. This is what you get when you ask for pho from this place. The broth was very aromatic, delicious, and the temperature was on point. There was three kinds of meat: eye of round steak, flank, and meatballs. All were good and fresh. The steak was raw and cooked in the broth as it arrived which is the traditional way. My only issue was with the noodles. They were not the thin long pho noodles that I'm used to. They were short, broader, and not nearly as much. The pho is served with a plate of sprouts (looked weak and not very fresh), a piece of lemon (not lime - I'm beginning to think they are a rare commodity in Paris!), and a whole chili pepper (not like the sliced jalapeno offered back home but it packed a lot of heat so I'd recommend cutting it up yourself). For just under 8 euros, I am a fan. This is my first pho in Paris so I guess this is where the bar is set. I see many police officers grabbing lunch from this place and I am a sucker for the pre-prepared foods no matter how many times I get burned... So, expect a review of the other dishes sooner or later! Update: My wife has a slight MSG intolerance which results in headaches when there is too much MSG. She says that this is the worst headache she's had in some time after having the pho.

The place was packed at dinnertime (8:20) and 2 of us awkwardly waited in the small front area with other diners until we were seated at 9pm. There are maybe only 2-3 pho dishes here but a lot of salads, rice and meat/shrimp dishes, and vermicelli/noodle dishes. I got the nouilles sautées aux légumes et crevettes (mi xao tom, see photo). It wasn't made with the usual noodle that I've known to be used for this dish (the thin, yellow egg noodle). I guess for that matter, it didn't taste like mi xao tom either. There was a lot of this brown sauce. It was good at first but soon I felt there needed to be some kind of balance to it. In the end it just was too salty and felt unhealthy. My bf had a beef vermicelli dish, which was also drenched in their sauce, and he found it to have too much of a vinegar taste. Drink prices aren't bad, for Paris. We skipped dessert; nothing stood out (no chè here!). I'm Viet but I'm not familiar with North Vietnamese cuisine at all, so I don't know if this was this particular restaurant's take on things or whether this is how it is. Our experience was lackluster, so I'm going to continue my search for my go-to restaurant when I miss my family's cooking! And on an extra note: credit cards are not accepted.
