The entrées were already on the table when we arrived. The plat and dessert were served buffet style. The menu is set so you don't have to do anything but enjoy. The entrées included a shredded carrot salad that I thought could use more vinegar but my dining partners assured me I was wrong. Also on the table were a cold lentil salad, smoked fish, and mushrooms all of which received unanimous thumbs up. There was also a bread station where you can cut off as many delicious slices as you want. The plat included veal and carrots in a yummy broth and pureed polenta. Both were as good as a hug from your grandmother. There were a variety of deserts and I heard no complaints from anyone. I opined that the chocolate cake was too rich and the women at the table looked at me like I had proclaimed my hatred for puppies and sunshine. Don't be afraid if you are seated at a large table. Practice your French and maybe you'll make a new friend. Four of us had lunch with a bottle of wine and the bill came to just under 20 euros each. They are open for lunch Monday thru Friday and dinner on Thursday & Friday only. The locals have found this place so call for reservations. Lucky for us it's just around the corner.

Long Opening Hours when others are still shut, even on some French Public Holidays. Good service and reasonable food and not too expensive and a very good selection of Beers, Wines and Spirits. The staff speak good English if you are not a Francophone. The Black Lion has a large sitting out area if the weather is good and of course seating inside in the dining area if it is wet or cold. An added attraction on a Sunday is a large street market selling all kinds of articles so why not have a wander round, buy some things ,and then have a drink afterwards? The only flaw I found was that the toilets are downstairs and there is a rather steep staircase so be careful if you have had a wee bit too much of the Cup that Cheers. Also the Gents Toilet could do with redecoration. That apart, I would recommend The Black Lion to Visitors to Toulouse.

I'm thankful there's an Asian grocery store in Toulouse, with items that are harder to find,…read moreproduce, packaged goods, frozen foods, and even prepared food. They mainly have Chinese/Thai/Vietnamese food and spices, but you can find some Korean things as well, and frozen roti bread. Produce - You can find bok choy, Thai basil, mint, limes, sweet potatoes, Thai chilis, and a few other things, much cheaper than you can find at a traditional grocery store in Toulouse (especially the mint and herbs). I haven't bought a ton of produce here, so I can't comment on the freshness, but I do like to pick up limes and sometimes mint when I'm here. Prepared Food - You can find the steamed rice noodles that is wrapped around ground beef, fried rice, curries, nems, and a lot of the foods you find at Asian restaurants here. I imagine a lot of places (including King Fat) buy these foods premade and then resell them. Save some money by buying it here instead of at the stalls at Carmes Market or Victor Hugo. Packaged Foods - They have a lot of packaged foods, including lots of Asian sauces (red curry paste, Pad Thai sauce) and lots of condiments and sauces you may need for cooking: soy sauce, sesame oil. They have a wide selection of noodles from vermicelli to egg noodles and they even have fresh noodles like udon noodles that are packaged and they have tofu as well. They also have kimchi and gochujang if you're looking to make Korean food. Spices - There are a ton of spices here, so if you're looking for something that the French supermarkets won't have, there's a good chance you'll find it here. They have palm sugar and tamarind concentrate as well. They also carry larger jars of peanut butter which is nice if you're making a peanut sauce. Snacks - I've found mochi here before, and they have rice crackers, Japanese covered peanuts, and other types of crackers and sweets. I like to buy my shrimp chips here too. Frozen Food - I haven't really bought too much frozen food here (my freezer is the size of a shoebox) but they have a good assortment of dumplings, nems, frozen seafood, and lots of things to choose from. I'm here at least once a month to pick up things I need to make Asian food at home, and very thankful this place exists to find things that most French supermarkets don't carry, or that charge you an arm and a leg for. They take credit card after you spend 8 or 10 euros, which is not usually a problem for me since I tend to buy a lot in one trip here. Remember to bring a bag for your groceries as they don't have shopping bags here.

In short, it is well priced for the quality of food and service. It deserves its M rating with its impeccable service team and amazing plating. I chose the set menu as it felt "safe" as opposed to chef's choice. Since I had such a wonderful experience I would take the leap of faith the next time. The food was well executed, not my most amazing meal, but such a wonderful well rounded experience. The unlisted pre and post meal items were a nice touch. The assorted amuse bouche was playful and set the stage. I liked the finger bites as it did hold some surprises. The fish was perfectly prepared and I was pleasantly surprised by the accompanying Rancio soaked fruit. Thanks to the female sommelier for the explanation. The sweet herbal nutty essence played off the fish. The lamb carpaccio melted in my mouth. The roast lamb was fine but not memorable. Hats off the pastry chef who pulled off some magical illusions and was spectacular. The cheese cart made a luxurious entrance. Make sure to ask for the cherry compote. A range of cheeses with quite a few which looked like brie but was more gooey and velvety.

I will only try to convey a sense of two items. The beef was served with a carrot and ginger sauce which was exceptional. And the desert - a light pastry with an apple tart underneath sounds sort of mundane, but was anything but. The price for the main menu for dinner is quite reasonable especially when the dollar is strong vs. the Euro, and the wines quite reasonably priced - starting under EUR 40. The main downside is that they are closed weekends and holidays and it is difficult to get a reservation.

Adorned with seasoned beef tartare perfectly chilled, and quite tasty once you do tossing of everything thoroughly of the bowl the meat slightly seers. Totally delicious. So delicious that everyone else in my group wanted to finish my dish. I didn't mind because it gave me an opportunity to taste everyone else's food A spicy pork dish was delicious as well! With the prices they charge for the meals, they should provide this traditional/cheap appetizer that is basic for any Korean restaurant. For me, the banchan is the best measure of a Korean restaurants hospitality/authenticity/quality. This is the first Korean restaurant I visited in the world that charged extra for Kimchi (from Seoul - Buenos Aires). I asked for some Kimchi for my Bibimbap and they charged me 2.5 EUR for two small leafs...also they did not tell me they were going to charge me for kimchi until the bill arrived..so cheap.. come on business can't be that bad you need to squeeze every last drop of blood out of the customers... They also charged me extra for my appetizer that was included in my menu set. It was an extra 1 EUR, no big deal $$ wise, but very rude to be adding extra charges without notifying the client. A basic Bibimbap/appetizer and splitting a bottle of Suju costs around 40 EUR/person. Price to quality/service ratio very poor. Needless to say, I do not recommend this place. The other Korean restaurant in the center is much more authentic and costs less. I now understand why the restaurant was so empty.
