This adorable little spot is ideal after you've wandered up the steep hills of Montmartre, seen Sacre Couer, and stopped for several glasses of wine along the way. The Couscous Royale has nothing to do with a quarter pounder, but it is undoubtedly a winner, as it does come with all the meats. I have never had couscous this light and fluffy, stewed vegetables so fresh and tasty, and charred meats so delectable. Generously doused in the broth provided and the homemade hot sauce available by request, this is a huge, delicious, and affordable meal. Especially if you also eat half of your wife's chicken tagine, which may have been even better than the couscous. My Parisian friends informed me that Moroccan food in Paris is somewhat analogous to Mexican food in the US; it's an ethnic cuisine that is cheap, delicious, and fairly common. I don't know about that, but I certainly believe Le Petit Bleu is among the best. I must say though, the bottle of Algerian wine we got was one of the worst reds I've come across since the Franzia/Carlo Rossi jug days. Get something else. Cash Only. read more

*** CASH ONLY *** I don't even like couscous. But this was really good couscous. Stopped in about 1pm on a Saturday and we were seated in an open airy space in the shade. It was over 100°F outside, but the ceiling fans made it feel no more than a comfortable 80°F. We had the chicken couscous and the lamb sausage couscous, and both were just really hearty and filling and delicious. Both are served over a bed of stewed vegetables. The chicken is dark meat, cooked on the bone and really tender and tasty. The merguez (lamb sausage) was cooked separately at my request and lambey and just chewey enough to have a good mouth feel. The veggies are also really good -- there are a lot and they're varied and my favorite of them was the fresh artichoke heart. All the couscouses are served with a jug of broth (for additional flavor to your couscous, we hardly used it because it was already super tasty) and a moroccan pickled lemon spicy chutney thing that really enhances the food. Man, I'm like addicted to it now. Service was slow only because there was only one guy serving and cooking -- but he was really sweet and the food was delicious. read more

This is the only place to grab couscous when in Paris. This place is tiny. In fact it is so small I can guarantee you will be waiting to get a table, but it is really worth the wait. I think they only open for dinner, but they stay open pretty late. The food is really inexpensive and extremely tasty. My girlfriend doesn't even like couscous, but she loved all the food here. You better come hungry, because the portions are quite large too! The staff is friendly and will accommodate even those who don't speak a word of French. read more

This was an amazing place! I discovered Le Petit Blue thanks to Tripadvisor reviews and it did not disappoint. Get here early or you will be better off ordering takeout as the tables take a long time to clear. I never liked couscous much before, but Le Petit Blue is the first place to make me want it over and over again. Definitely get something with merguez in it, which is a mixed lamb sausage. Each plate is big enough for two meals, but be kind and order one plate each. We got a merguez couscous and a lamb tajine. For the lamb tajine, they use lamb shank meat, which tasted a lot like chicken (pardon us for having a poor palate), which led to a lot of finger pointing from the cook telling us we were mistaken and it was lamb. Sorry chef! Anyway, the couscous contains delicious stewed vegetables and comes with a really hot broth on the side that you ladle over the whole dish. I added a lot of the broth to flavor the veggies, but I think overall the dish was already very flavorful. This is easily a very affordable meal and it's super close to Le Sacre Coeur, so you can come by after you watch the sun set. Cash only, and don't expect super friendly service if you're used to American service. The waiter is just kind of gruff but all in all he does care about providing great food. read more

The best couscous I have ever had. Seriously, I've had couscous in Morocco that was not as good. It's super authentic home cooking. The portions are humungous, you get free refills of vegetable soup and harissa to put in your dish. Every kind of meat is incredible. I usually get either the lamb brochettes or the merguez, or both, because the great thing is that you can mix and match as you please. The place is like eating in a family kitchen somewhere in Tunisia, it's family owned, it's simple, homey and full of flavor, which I love. No one knows about this gem!!! It's filled with locals and I only know about it because I lived next door for 5 years. People actually want to keep this place a secret, because it is so amazingly good and cheap! My favorite place to get couscous in Paris. I first came here in 2008 and since I have used it as my standard starting point for an evening whenever someone comes to visit me in Paris. Afterwards you can walk up the stairs just outside the restaurant and see the Sacré Cœur and a beautiful view of Paris. Plus the food is awesome! My standard orders are the couscous with two meats: brochette d'agneau (lamb skewers) and merguez (spicy sausage). Otherwise I order the assiette grillades (it's called something like that) which is the same meats but with salad and fried potatoes. The tajines are also quite good! Make sure you ask for the harissa if you like some spice! The place is a little rough around the edges but that is what makes it amazing. read more

I live nearby and there are always people here for dinner. I decided to try it one time and it did not disappoint. They have a couscous legumes here but I don't think that it is vegetarian. It comes with a soup that includes chicken in it. It's a good deal at 8 euros. The chicken couscous is very good and filling. It's a good deal at 9 euros. Couscouses range from 8 to 12 euros. They also have tagines and meat platters. I did not taste MSG. I don't think they have any vegetarian main dishes. Recommended if you eat meat. They have fish, chicken, and lamb. Not recommended if you're a vegetarian. read more

Le Petit Bleu has made it onto a number of lists of recommended restaurants in Montmartre. It is a tiny, cramped, unassuming restaurant at the bottom of one set of stairs off to the east of Sacre Coeur. We arrived just after it opened one evening and managed to get the last table. There are three categories of food on the menu: couscous, tagine and various grilled proteins. Tagine would not be available until later that evening, we were told (which I thought made for a tricky calculation if you wanted it; how would you arrive late enough to get tagine, but get a seat?). In any case, I ordered the Couscous Royale, which, as you can see, had everything on it (and came with a small pitcher of broth) and my better half had lamb. I've often wondered about the popularity of couscous in Paris, and what makes it special. At the Grand Mosque last year, I was impressed with the pastries... and thought the couscous was nice enough, but nothing special. After dining at Le Petit Bleu, I finally understand. The wonderful stewed vegetables (a bit of everything: carrots, zucchini, turnip maybe or jerusalem artichoke) were matched with meat that was really charred, the flavour of the grill so delicious. Even the falafel was crisp and grilled. And then the couscous itself was a marvel. How was it that I could spoon the delicious broth over it, and yet the grains remained separate: fine, light and delicate? They never got mushy (like my mushy homemade couscous, I can never get the technique right). So for 15 euros, to be introduced the wonders of a great couscous, I was very thankful. The service was hilariously grouchy. Well, one of the waiters is friendly and charming and the other (the owner?) is gruff and direct, as if he doesn't really want your business, because with people clamouring to get in, and calling in their take-out orders, it's not like he has to be nice. I think sometimes North Americans eating in Paris don't appreciate that abrupt service is just part of the charm of dining out; take it as a little bit of local colour. read more

We came from the 5th arrondissement an arrived at 6 exactly. The owner was the only one there and informed us they'd open at 7 - no problem. The restaurant is located right at the foot of a staircase that goes up to the Sacre Coeur. It was a good little hike and the view if the city was magnificent (and free). We went into the church for a moment then walked around the nearby neighborhood and the Rue Lemarck. When we got back it was at 7 sharp and still no one else was there. So I awkwardly stepped in and muttered "Bon Jour" to the waiter who was on the phone and then bolted out. They were still prepping I think. No problem - we stopped by the mini market next door and grabbed a coke and beer and sat at the nearby park and watched a pregnant cat lay by us. 30 or so mins went by and we returned to the restaurant for the final to and to our pleasure some other patrons. Now to the food... I got the duck tajine and my girl got the chicken couscous. Both were big portions although the duck certain came with more meat (and a higher price - 12€ vs 10€ for the chicken). Food came fairly quick. Holy mudduh was it good! The tajine and its accompanying sauce were amazing. The duck was great, but honestly my favorite part was the vegetables. Im not a huge fan of cookes carrots or green beans but I devoured it, along with the potatoes and various other veggies (red pepper and possible dates?). My gf's chicken was excellent as well. She got 3 drum sticks and similar veggie set. Another plus was a free bottle of water. Excellent little hole in the wall restaurant in a cute neighborhood. read more

You feel like couscous, tajine or grilled meat? Well you cannot go wrong here.The place is pretty small, close to montmartre or rue de clignancourt (Barbés) and so easily crowded: ask the owner how much you need to wait, as things go quick. It is a small room sitting around 25 people, painted blue and decorated the oriental (maghrebi) way. Nice to make someone discover something new. The owner is definitely not that nice, do not bother him. He will speak arabic/kabyle with his employees in the kitchen (we laughed understanding he was complaining about us asking for more semoule eheh). Couscous are pretty full dishes, I tried the lamb one and I can say the meat was pretty soft and tasty. Tajines are served the algerian way, along with a dish of couscous (in morocco, they do with bread, reason why I cannot understand how people say this place is Moroccan?). I tried the duck tajine (yeah, the least typical) and was soft and tasty too, not much spicy though. The chicken, olives, lemons tajine had not lemons (which are my fav part) and was not enough tasty either.But I am not saying they were bad, not at all! Prices vary between 10 and 14 euros, which is better than in Saint Denis (an outskirts village). Wine varies in the same price ranfe, and I agree is not bad at all. Mint tea is at 2euros (less than at the mosque!).A good find then, for food, location and ingredients used (oh yea, in winter you'll find outside in display all veggies used in your meal... a natural fridge more than an invitation to enter?) read more
