I cannot explain it all; you just have to go. The food is the main thing when you go out to eat, of course. I started with a kir, but not the Normandy version which I had before and it is nothing more than cassis with some local sparkling cider. I had one of the galettes. Galettes are, I guess you can say, like crepes but brown, so guessing wheat based?! No clue, really. But this one was delicious. It's flat, then filled with cheese, ham, some other interesting stuff and also a fried egg. Loved it! Also, it was quite a size so did fill me up. Might have to find that place again tomorrow!

This is one of those reviews in which I don't have a lot to say because everything was well done. Great location, warm environment, perfect service and excellent food. It was sunny and there was a light breeze, so we decided to pick the outside seating. It is right next to a street intersection so it was noisy at times, but nevertheless, I love the option to sit outside on a beautiful day. Our server was super nice and spoke English. He was super attentive and consider. For example, when the sun was about to hit part of the table, he moved the water to a shady part so it was kept cool. You don't have to tip so you know the servers genuinely care about the customers. Price wise, it was super affordable. We got the Melba, which was a sweet crepe with strawberry jam, canned peaches, whipped cream, and homemade vanilla ice cream for 7.20 euros. We also got the savory crepe with eggs and tomato (choose your own toppings) for 5.90 euros. My only gripe was that the egg was way undercooked for my taste. Even the egg whites weren't cooked so if you're like me and enjoy a sunny side egg with thoroughly cooked whites, make sure to bring that up.

The restaurant is located on a narrow cobblestone street with beautiful old style buildings (one of the only streets original to Caen, built prior to WWII, that was not to shelled to oblivion during the fighting between the Nazis and the Allied Forces). So, with my SF-given knowledge that there was such a thing as Normandy crepes, I came here for my first crepe in the real deal Normandy itself! This place was great, but casual. It's probably best for lunch! For dinner, it works, but doesn't quite feel right unless you're trying to get something quick. The crepes are great. They're bigger than normal crepes, and heavier. La Ficelle provides an excellent array of fillings - pick from a list of 20! Or you can just choose your own. The crepes themselves taste almost like potato pancakes, especially the crispy edges. It's about 6€ for one crepe, and that's almost enough for a meal, but getting a salad is probably a good idea if you're hungry and/or want dietary balance. I definitely recommend this place for anyone wondering how crepes are done in this part of the world!
