The first server, on realizing that we speak very little French, passed us on to another server who turns out be from South America! He did his best to explain the menu. It features highly the regional favorites of duck and truffle, but also has a new spin, such as cooking duck in earl grey tea leaves and serving scallop with enoki mushrooms. We got the 3 course meal and everything was tasty and nicely presented. Portions are a bit small but we weren't starving so we were fine. We were one of the last tables leaving for the evening so it wasn't very busy. The chef came out and asked us how things were. We told him everything was good but one piece of the lamb was a bit tough because of the silver skin. The chef explained the lamb dish consisted of two different cuts and one part was a bit tougher. The service was wonderful - they were friendly, patient and spoke English. Plenty of outdoor seating and it's right in the main square so it's a good spot for people watching.

Unfortunate note: The Sardalaise potatoes were awful. They were dried out and leathery, inedible. The main plates were adequate in quality. I've had way better food for the same tariff, but recently I've had worse (street fair food in Eymet 2 nights previously). Here tonight I paid 22 euros for a bottle of rose' wine that sells in the supermarket for 9 euros, so that pisses me off. But we ate large portions and the total bill was 55 euros. Not gourmet food. Competent enough for a tourist food factory. I would not return for another meal.

Monfort is a fairy tale storybook cute village that is not over run with tourist hordes. That is amazing given that it is located close to the Dordogne river recreational activities.
