Some reviews, like one I read recently, seem to reflect personal frustration with unrelated incidents rather than the actual dental care provided. But my experience with this dentists office has been overall very negative. First of all, they are not great with kids. My 6 year old was chastised and shamed for not being able to hold still enough for them to paint her teeth with something. Not great, but ok - they are not listed as a pediatric dentist, so maybe that's on us. But then there were other, ongoing issues: 1. As others have noted, it's impossible to get an appointment with them. They are regularly booking 9 months out. It's also VERY hard to reach someone on the phone - they really want you to book through their website. 2. Because of having to book super far in the future, I have had to cancel multiple appointments when the date rolls around. I just can't predict my work schedule etc. Not only is this very hard to do because it's impossible to reach people on the phone, but TWICE I had them charge me a $50 cancelation/ no-show fee because they did not listen to the voice message I left to cancel (because no one answered). 3. The straw that broke the camel's back was this past November, when I got a call on a Thursday evening at 5:30pm checking to see if I would be coming in for a SEVEN AM APPOINTMENT THE NEXT DAY. I had no record of this appointment in my calendar - and unless I was in a fugue state there is no way I would have EVER booked a dentist appointment at 7am. But there was no convincing them that this was an error - bam, another $50 cancelation fee. In addition to all of this scheduling and cancelation drama, I also want to mention that the dentist here has told me some very unusual things about caring for my teeth. She told me, for example, to *try not to let the toothbrush touch my gums?!* I have definitely had other dentists tell me to make SURE to brush my gums.... I am not a dentist, so I don't want to say this is outright wrong... maybe the advice has changed? But... somehow I doubt it.

The dentist, Dr. Bello, was professional, but my experience with the hygienist, Kelly, was extremely negative. At that time, I had just moved to the United States, did not speak English well, and naturally relied on my husband to communicate. Instead of showing understanding, Kelly made remarks suggesting that I was like a child depending on my husband. I found this deeply mocking and humiliating. During the cleaning, she smiled while inflicting pain on me, and it felt cruel and deliberate. As an Asian immigrant who couldn't speak English then, I felt that she treated me differently in a way she would not have treated other patients. That made the experience even more painful and isolating. I cannot confirm whether Kelly is still working there, but that experience left me with lasting trauma and a deep mistrust toward dental hygienists in America. In my opinion, no patient should ever be made to feel ridiculed or discriminated against because of language or cultural background.

He is very gentle and professional. On my first visit, I had terrible plaques built up for years. Dr. Krumly did an excellent job deep-cleaning it without any derogatory comments. He also offers exceptional accessibility, over the phone and in person, and a very flexible appointment schedule. His dental assistant is also friendly and welcoming. I first started seeing Dr. Markeson after I moved to Seattle from AZ, where I had a dentist who tried to give me 4 crowns (got a 2nd opinion in AZ). In my youth I also had sort of negative dentist experiences causing me to avoid the dentist if possible. Dr. Markeson took the time to explain procedures (he recommended fixing my old fillings by replacing them with new fillings) and definitely took the time to let me ask questions and address any concerns. I visited his office regularly for dental cleanings and also Invisalign. I actually tried to continue coming to the office once I got married and moved to Tacoma, but alas! My dental insurance changed and it seemed like a big effort to make it the distance with a small child at home. I recently visited Dr Markeson for a cleaning again. There was a small mixup where I thought my insurance could work, but it didn't. I paid out of pocket for my dental cleaning and got to ask Dr Markeson some questions about dental procedures that a dentist in Tacoma was recommending. I felt a lot more informed when I left. She is highly unprofessional, giving calls over weekends to resolve issues and I am concern about how she handles confidential personal information. She also is rude and blames the patients for issues, complaining that she doesn't have time to follow up and work on things. She says billing insurance is a common curtesy they do that other dentists don't offer. But she is incapable of resolving insurance issues on her own. They should really hire employees that are for a specific role instead of cutting costs and having the wife poorly do tasks.
