    The Australian Collection

Free admission for a pleasant stroll around some very well maintained and curated collections of plants, flowers, and trees. Lots of tropical plants, palms, cacti, an Australian collection, grassy patches perfect for afternoon lazing, and plenty of native Californian plants. There's also a manicured European-style garden area. We loved how everything was labeled and gorgeous. Photo ops abound! We had a little bit of trouble finding the entrance - Google Maps came in very handy here. We parked at the Environmental Horticultural Science Unit (building 48) on Via Carta at the north end of campus. There are parking meters that work with the Park Mobile app - no coins needed.

This is a most excellent arboretum! I have been to the UC Davis arboretum and thought it was super. This is just as good.

They have plenty of other houseplants and succulents as well. Being on the Central Coast these plants are so healthy. So many to choose from and pricing is fair. Staff is always so helpful and knowledgeable whenever I am here. They also carry all the supplies you need for both indoor and outdoor gardening projects. You can even pick up a gift for your gardening or plant loving friend. What I love most is they are a non profit so every dollar spent here supports mental health services here in the SLO community. Easy to find right on Chorro Street across from the mission. Parking is a challenge since it's all on the street or nearby garage. I highly recommend a stop here if you are a plant Mama or Papa.

This is why I loved it, and why all my family is still talking about how ours was the best wedding they had ever been to: 1 - Really beautiful garden, and it is SLO, so you know the weather is going to be beautiful. There are lots of pretty benches and places to take photos. 2 - None of this dumb "all included package" junk, so you can have whatever you want! We had friend's as the musicians, DJ, photographers, bartender, officiant, and Mo's catered. Mmmmm .... Mo's. 3 - CHEAP. It is a city park, so you go pay a relatively small fee at the Parks and Rec. department to rent the area (I think it was $600ish), and then a $99 one day liquor license. 4 - It is roughly across the street from the Travelodge on Marsh, so you can reserve a block of rooms for your guests, and they can WALK to your wedding. And if not ... there is ample parking. 5 - It is close enough to downtown to go to bars and stuff after, but far enough away that there is little noise from traffic. So yeah, maybe it isn't great if you have a HUGE family (ours was about 130 people, which was just right), and you do have to get all the tables, linens, your cake, and everything there and set up ... but really ... grab a few friends, and family members. We started at 8 am and had the place set up by 9:30or 10, which left plenty of time to get ready for our 3 o'clock ceremony. I wouldn't have changed anything about the day. Everything was perfect, and we didn't spend tens of thousands of dollars.

Although their fame didn't extend much beyond the Central California coast, the Jacks were active enough in ranching, politics, travel, banking, and land development to inspire the city of San Luis Obispo to restore and maintain their estate as a tourist attraction. The reception was easy - the usual stupid liability forms to fill out - otherwise its nestled in a grove of trees and surprisingly quiet given how close to the road it is. The massage quality was on the higher end as one would expect, but what set it above and beyond was the 30-45 min soak in an outdoor private hot tub before your massage as part of the package. Definitely relaxed us before the relaxing massage and a relaxing hot shower afterwards. You just didn't want to do anything after that. A great experience and well worth it.

The private hot tub was already filled and heated upon arrival, which was a nice touch. There were plenty of towels, a refrigerator in the room, and a large, comfortable couch with a sitting area that was perfect for enjoying breakfast. Unfortunately, the service did not match the price point. At nearly $600 per night, I expected a much higher level of hospitality. Room service took over two hours to arrive, despite placing the order an hour in advance specifically to avoid delays. To their credit, the staff comped the meal, which was a gracious gesture, but I would have preferred receiving the food on time. What was most disappointing was the complete lack of personalized service. For a resort charging premium rates, I expected touches such as evening turndown service, robes and slippers prepared by the bed, or other details that make a luxury stay feel special. None of that was offered. At $600 per night. I would've rather spent my money at The Four Seasons four seasons or the Peninsula hotel. At least at those premium hotels we actually get the service we pay for. The check-in experience was also unpleasant. The front desk staff came across as overly rigid and unwelcoming, which set the wrong tone from the start. This was my second time giving this resort a chance, and unfortunately, I regret doing so. While the accommodations themselves are very nice, the service falls far short of what should be expected at this price level
