This is a review of a specific experience I had, not the store in general. The liquor store has a variety of options, and it's my go to place. Recently when I went, they said I could even have my alcohol delivered through an app called Drizly. Tonight, with snow on the ground and cold temps outside, I decided to try it out. I left a note through the app saying to call me first because the door to my apartment is not the front door, and if they rang the doorbell it would disturb my landlord. What did the Ottos delivery driver do? Well they knocked at my door, and when I went downstairs they were no where to be seen. They ended up ringing the front doorbell, not calling me, and bothering my landlord when I explicitly asked them not to. When I pointed it out, the delivery driver did not apologize. This was very frustrating, and I would NOT recommended order a delivery. Terrible service. Nevertheless, this is a good liquor store if you can make it in person. read more

I never leave feedback on any platform, however today is that exception. I called to see about a price match on a case of wine with another local establishment which was close to five dollars per bottle more at Leary's. After being grilled by the young man who picked up the phone as to what I was calling about and his admission that he had no idea of the store's price matching policy, I asked if he could find some one who might be able to answer my question. His response was "no we don't price match and he hung up." Amazingly rude and frustrating to see this behavior in someone who should be trying to put the business in the best possible light. Lots of other liquor stores closer to me. Won't do business at this establishment again! read more

Grabbed a few beers here to help celebrate Craft Beer Week. Selection was pretty good, however there's no mix a 6. Major minus. I did like that not only did they have a few other the more "hard to find breweries" like Element, but had a pretty good selection of them as well (more than just one of their beers) Besides the mix a six not being available, the other major down side was freshness. I had heard from a few people about this issue previously, and it was def true, so just make sure your keeping your eyes open. Over all, if you're feeling like a beer I can only find in MA, but are too lazy to drive into the city, stop in. read more

Never thought I'd be reviewing a liquor store but this one is so great I could't help it. Location is great as it's just outside downtown Newburyport. They recently opened an Otto pizza inside which is a huge plus. But the best part is their selection. They have a tremendous craft beer selection, lots of hard to find 4 packs and 22's. But the wine, THE WINE, they have some really amazing selections for SUPER cheap. And they will special order pretty much anything they can get their hands on (3 bottle minimum.) They also have wine tastings, craft beer nights, and wine education classes. And did I mention they deliver? read more

Far and away the best wine shopping experience in town. Todd, Bill and the rest of the crew truely know the wines they sell and will take the time to learn your tastes to make sure you find the right bottle. Their selection is vast, covering all of the world's major wine regions and they have a particularly strong showing for Aussie and California wines. Go to their Saturday afternoon tastings to test drive a wine before you buy. Its the best way to bring somehting home you know you'll like and to find stuff that you would never think to try. read more

Probably the top liquor store in Newburyport. We hosted a party at our house a few weeks ago and wanted to get a couple kegs. We called Leary's and they worked with us to get a keg of Allagash White and a keg of Smuttynose Old Brown Dog. They generally don't stock kegs on site but rather get them on demand. Despite being the top game in town their prices were very reasonable. I'm general it's one of my go - to spots. Very respectable wine and beer selection and now they have Otto Pizza on-site. That's a solid value proposition. read more

Customer service is non existent here for a few female staff members who seem to have no couth, and at times I unfortunately encounter. Hello and Thank You go along way!. As a regular here I typically encounter a stone face cashier or when I arrive at the counter the cashier is in conversation with another co-worker totally ignoring my presence. It's baffling at best. The last straw was the other day; The heavy set female cashier just proves how little character she actually has. No hello, extremely unfriendly, and of course I received no thank you. I grabbed my purchase and uttered 'rude'! There are plenty other liquor stores in the area that will actually acknowledge you and most important, appreciate your business. Thanks Leary's but I will spend my money elsewhere. read more

This place is horrible. They claim to give advice on fine wines but have no idea what they're talking about. I went in tonight and the guy at the register spent an extra five minutes flirting with the girl in front of him and talking to a coworker while there was a huge line. Much nicer shops in the area. I found Leary's to be outstanding. I would give it 5 stars but have only been once and will certainly update to 5 if they continue to impress. Great beer selection including a wide variety of Belgian and specialty brews. Nice selection of wines with "less expensive" wines and "fine" wines separated. Some fantastic values - Ferrari-Carano Fume Blanc 13.99, for example - and discounts on wine starting at 6 bottles. The service was also very good. I was helped by owners/buyers and got the sense that they are influenced and in tune with tastes/needs of their clientele. They even have frequent, regular wine and beer tastings/ classes. I was impressed and plan to frequent regularly in future. read more

Leary's has a nice selection of craft bourbons and rare, hard-to-find items. This makes it a good place to find gifts and fun, unusual offerings. Today I found some craft spirits from High West, a great craft distillery in Utah. read more

This is how you operate a business! Well-stocked, friendly and well-informed help. Looking for some spirits for the weekend, selected a couple of bottles and had the gentleman tell me there was a sale on a similar item which saved me more than $10. Great place. My new liquor store! I ordered off the drizly app from this location, received a confirmation email, and a hour and a half later I called the store to find out the app was down and my ordered hadn't been received until then. When I asked if I could just cancel the order and get a refund I was told the order had just left the store. 21 minutes later I got a text saying the order was leaving the store now almost 2 hours after I had placed it. Then the driver finally gets here and is unable to scan my ID with there phone causing me to stand in the doorway for another 5 minutes. After it is unable to work finally giving up and letting me sign the phone the order was complete 2 + hours latter. read more
