Trail marker alongside a snowy wooded path
    Julie D.

I went out this weekend to explore the trails and was not disappointed. There is free parking and the lots were maintained and clear of snow. So the only hard part was figuring out which trail to go on. I hiked the Jensen Lake Trail and to the trail was well marked. There are also trail maps at path intersections in case you are questioning which way to venture on. I was pleased to see that they had informational signage throughout the park - providing information about the land and what plants and animals are found in the park. Now that's a way to exercise both your body and your brain! This is definitely a lovely park to stop by and visit!

We are so lucky to have such a great and expansive park in the suburb of Eagan. I've used this park for hiking, beach / swimming, paddle boarding and mountain biking. Beautiful views, clean bathrooms and changing areas and facilities to rent canoes, kayaks and paddle boards.

This park is such an asset to east/southeast metro area. The only negative is that is so popular it can get crowded, but there is enough space that is not usually a problem. We visit the park most frequently for snowshoeing and hiking. The terrain has modest hills through forests and around several lakes. It's lovely during any season, but especially during the fall as leaves change, or after snow has just falllen. It has excellent trails for mountain biking/fat tire riding, but that is the one sport where the crowds can be a deterrent. During the summer, there's a modest lake where you can swim or use small non-motorized water equipment like paddle boards or small kayaks. If you are just learning to Stand-up Paddleboard this is a great place to learn because the water is calm and size of lake is manageable. Highly recommend as a nearby park with something for everyone who enjoys the outdoors

A green space in the middle of the burbs that has heavy foot traffic. You may not feel that impact depending on what trails you do (and what time of day/when) but having worked for park systems and nature centers, this is def a higher impact park. You will hear a lot of city transportation noise (highway and planes) due to the location. That being said, we are all thankful for this patch of green and wet.

Lebanon Hills has so much to offer for any nature lover. From hiking to kayaking to laying out on a beach, there is something for the whole family. Schulze beach is the perfect beach to go and just hang in the sand. If you're bored of the beach you can rent kayaks or paddle boards and take them out on the beach. There is a public bathroom that is very clean as well as changing rooms.

One of my favorite parks. It's close to home and we have been coming here for years. First with kids for the 2 mile lap around Jensen Lake now for long walks solo or with the grand dog. Without paved paths, it can be a muddy walk at times but they have done a good job of building boardwalks where it used to get really sloppy. There are many lakes and a true sense of quiet deeper into the trail. In the summer I like the 5m voyager trail because it's shady and cooler. Be careful of rocks on the path as they can trip you up if you aren't paying attention. I've seen deer, hawks, snakes, coyotes and many other animals. Maps along the way can help direct you although it can still be a little confusing. Great taste of nature in the city.

Love this somewhat hidden gem in the south metro. Lots to do at this regional park: hiking, running, skiing, mountain biking, snowshoeing, or leisurely walking. Trails are well kept and beautifully scenic. You'd have no idea that it's possible to get so closely connected with nature on the border of Eagan/Apple Valley. Nature friends you'll likely cross paths with on your trail: turtles, bunnies, deer, and maybe even a garter snake.

Extensive park that offers a quiet spot in the Twin Cities (just not near the playground). Hiking trails are marked and lots of signage available for those who want to know where they are going. Horseback trails are available as well.

Lebon on hill is a nice place to go for a walk a run, sledding and so much more. I would 10/10 recommend going here. I go to lebon on hills to walk my dog a lot and I love it. The only thing I don't like is the fact that is has a lot of rocks on the non-paved trail so it could be dangerous if you tripped on them but that's about it.

Having cabin fever and the temps in the 40's, it was a given to venture to Lebanon. All the while I was thinking that Lebanon is such a gift! It's like the Central Park of the Twin Cities! Although not so Central, just head south to Lebanon and other parks in Dakota county, FOR FREE! Dakota County has huge, beautiful parks for free! Lebanon in particular is a vast system of trails, lakes and ponds to enjoy year round. Whether you want to go jump in a lake in the summer or cross country ski across a lake in the winter, snow shoe, schedule a snow shoe by candlelight, take the kids kick sledding, canoe with or without portages, there are so many ways to enjoy the outdoors at Lebanon year round. For free! It is truly a gift. We have been enjoying the Dakota county parks for years and certainly for years to come. Give it a try!

Lebanon Hills makes for a wonderful way to get your forest bathing (or shinrin-yoku as the Japanese call it) in the middle of Suburbia. There are many many miles of trails here, you could go quite a few times and have different routes every time. There are three different parking areas (with plenty of parking) to choose from, giving variety even where you start from. The trails go around many different lakes and ponds, and there are plenty of birds, ducks, frogs, turtles, etc. We even have seen turkeys and deer! Just be careful, there are many trails, it would be very easy to get lost!! Great place for walking, and there are some picnic tables as well. Definitely a place I'm thankful to have nearby!

It's really nice in the summer time. Lots of trails to walk/ run/ bike, saw a baby deer at one point, and nice lake to spend time with the family.

Great place for a walk and/or bike ride. We got there as the sun was setting so we took a shorter trail just to make it back to the car before dark. You can easily spend the whole day here. Not to mention, there's a camping site.

Took me about an hour and a half to walk the entire thing (both sides of Diffley) and I wasn't rushing at all. As you would expect from the name, there's a variety of art to pause and look at/photograph. Some of it is pretty, some is odd- again, as one would expect from art! I don't rate it that highly only because it wasn't all that much. I don't think I'm liable to go back, unless they posted some new 2025 events (the only ones listed were from summer of 2024) that catch my eye? The grounds are reasonably well marked with maps so you'll know where you are going and not get lost. There are port-a-potties on either side of Diffley, which seem to be well-maintained. The parking lot is a mid-sized gravel lot with little shade. My favorite things here were the "labyrinth" and the "poet tree box". Cute.

Unpaved parking lot and then follow the signs to either the nature trails or sculpture walk. There are no paper maps but there is a sign board with a sketchy map and another sign with a qr code, but you probably don't need to bother as the park isn't that big and I found I could cross over from one trail to the other. There is a fairly thick forest but not a wilderness as we can hear traffic rushing from roads on either side. The sculptures are interesting as is the founder Anthony Caponi who was born in Italy. There is a detailed fascinating portrait of this artist shown occasionally on Mn Original on Twin Cities Public Television, taped in his last year of life. I'm grateful this chunk of land was not sold and developed into cookie cutter houses but preserved and still private property.

It's not much in the way of hiking, as the longest path/loop is only a mile long and fully paved with asphalt, but it's got a lot of amenities that would make for an excellent visit during warmer months. This includes a kid's playground, an extensive fitness zone, a splash pad (with toilets and water fountain-- not operating during winter), a bandshell, and a sizable festival grounds. On the other end of the park (near Pilot Knob) there's a gazebo structure with more seasonal restrooms/water fountain, with a multitude of picnic tables, trash/recycling, and grills that would be excellent for outdoor get-togethers. There is parking at both this location and by the splash pad, as well as the massive lot attached to the community center. There's a couple small lakes and plenty of trees, so it's a nice little retreat (even if right across the street is a massive outdoor shopping center...).

Not sure how often or at what time of year they maintain it to make it easier to follow, but it's understandable that they don't because it is part of a specific biome of wet meadow known as a "fen". This is important work! I'm so glad they're doing it. Unsurprisingly there is a gift shop with expected trinkets such as stickers, pins, patches, plushies, postcards, jewelry, hankerchiefs, and lots of books. So if you'd like to support the refuge and get a little something for yourself, that's a great way to do it. There is additionally an art gallery with revolving local Minnesota artists that take inspiration from nature, an auditorium playing a looped track, and plenty of space for kids to play (including corn hole and giant puzzles). There is a conference room (downstairs) and a community room (upstairs), and considerable office space (not open to the public, obviously). Two water bottle refill stations. Clean bathrooms (separated by gender, but there's also a bonus unisex, accessible one). These folks do LOTS of events throughout the year, most of them completely free to attend (some require RSVP, others don't), so I recommend keeping an eye out for something that interests you. Plenty of free parking is available on site. There are picnic tables around the visitor center, as well as an outlook with binoculars. If you go down along the left side the visitor center, it will take you to the trails if you're here to do some hiking. :)
