I grabbed some chorizo which I'm super excited about because I haven't been able to find any since moving here from Los Angeles. I haven't tried it yet, so I'll update my review after I do. I was super excited about the FRIED CHICKEN cause it looked delicious, but as soon as I took my first bite I regretted buying so much of it. Although the breading on it had an excellent taste, most of it crumbled off the chicken and exposed gross looking pale chicken. The skin of the chicken was definitely not fried properly and appeared to be partly raw. Once I bit into it, the chicken felt chewy and was partly pink inside. I got 5 wings and wished I had only got one to try cause I couldn't eat any of it. My husband thinks the chicken was read and fried while still frozen which kept it from frying properly. How can you skip steps in cooking and expect your customers to be happy and come back?? The shop itself is nice and has a big assortment of meats, but my review is based on what I purchased (fried chicken) which was pretty disgusting.

Anyway, nothing really is more worthy of care than delicious meat, and you don't have to pay much extra. And they are friendly and helpful. You name it. Why go to the grocery and pay 20% less for an assembly line butchered animal when you can have locally farmed animals, some elsewhere but still very good!

They didn't have any fresh ribeye when I went (curses!) but they had some frozen tomahawks that looked like they might as well have been wagyu. The marbling on them was incredible, the ribeye from the local butchers where I'm at in the Shenandoah Valley completely paled in comparison. But we were cooking steak that day and I didn't want a frozen one, so we grabbed a couple New York Strips (or whatever their actual name is) that had marbling like I'd never seen in that cut. Cooked them in a cast iron over fire and coals with some butter, fresh garlic, salt and pepper and boy, did they just melt in your mouth - if you'd told me it was tenderloin, I would've never doubted. Really wanted to go back and grab those frozen tomahawks to take home with me but it just didn't work out like that, now I'm back home and just woke up the next morning and I can't stop thinking about 'em. Well…read morestocked fresh local produce, dairy and meats and decent packaged foods that city folks are used to. This is a small grocer about 1/3rd size Sprouts but is packed with excellent edibles! Outside blends in with the town but don't judge this grocer with its cover. They have little of everything and comparable to and at higher quality than WFM. This isn't fancy but authentic goodness! Buffalo Mountain Food-coop has a cafe upstairs but wasn't open due to Covid when we visited. BMFC was busy and had a steady flow of locals and peeps traveling through. Staff are friendly and helpful!! This is one of the few places that wasn't understaffed in VT this season. Prices are a little higher as it's customary in VT. Many local producers' goods seem to be in line with other coop prices but the packaged were slightly higher likely due to logistics and volume. Parking is street and free. Hardwick wasn't busy but parking was tight. If you visit the NE Kingdom, Buffalo Mountain Food Coop is a very good place to find sundries and nourishment. Produce was fresher and was better stocked than Willey's. Enjoy!
