While I found the staff to be pretty friendly, I wasn't impressed overall with the store which was my first Urban Outfitters experience, the store wasn't even clean with piles of clothes just thrown on the floor in multiple parts of the store, and the lift which was already dirty was being used for storage which basically meant no one could use it due to having many heavy storage trolleys in the way, without finding the attention of a member of staff. I didn't find the selection of clothes to be great but the store did have some interesting features including a rather nice exposed brick interior, Chilly's bottles for hot and cold beverages and a photo booth, these are the only reasons in particular for an extra star. Based on this experience, while the store isn't dreadful I probably wouldn't visit an Urban Outfitters again. I mean come on, you can't just throw clothes all over the floor and expect customers to find it okay, you can't just use the lift for storage, it shows poor cleanliness and a lack of care especially considering the floor in some areas, mainly the lift seemed dirty and like it hadn't been cleaned in years. 2*

The shirts and polo shirts are excellent - with great examples by Lyle & Scott and Penguin and the even the slogan t-shirts, the low point of any men's department, are almost always cool ;a John 'Bluto' Blutarsky "COLLEGE" shirt - yes please! It's also a great place for presents - I bought my sister a purse here, which she loved, and I've lost count of the amount of times I've bought 'Point It' (a book of pictures of hotel rooms, foods and drinks) for friends going travelling. Did I mention I can only count to three? I always take a detour in here when out shopping in town. Having said that I can't remember the last time I bought anything here for myself. I have almost bought a shirt on a number of occasions, and almost been tempted by a gold Casio watch (it's not geek-chic if I think that it's genuinely awesome). It has to do, I think, with the price - you will be lucky to get a non-sale t-shirt for under £30. I'm waiting for something to blow my socks off so much that I want to splash the cash on it. The store has two floors with escalators and elevators going between both levels. Sadly the store does not have either an Optician or Collect by Car facility. The store was fairly clean, modern and easy to navigate, the Food Hall was particularly large with a good selection, featuring a nice range of dairy and free from products, the in-store bakery was a disappointment though, the area was tiny and the stock was minimal. The Christmas range was particularly impressive, with a good selection of luxury chocolates and shortbreads as a gift, I did visit in November 2022, so this is a seasonal thing, but well worth a look in ahead of the holidays. The staff seemed friendly enough and the checkout experience was made simple by the Marks and Spencer app, where you can scan and bag items as you go around the store, and then pay on your phone before leaving. It has its' own part of the retail park, meaning it has its' own dedicated parking lot, so there shouldn't be too much of a kerfuffle in finding a space, and you don't have to worry about a long walk back to your car with heavy shopping. 4*

I must say, I preferred the old store near Lewis's, while the stock was similar, the shop was larger and brighter, there was more stuff and more space to look; it was a little decrepit, but it wasn't in St John's which I tend to find dark and claustrophobic Now there is no alternative I shop here. The stock is variable with some obligatory tat but an occassional bargain (as with most of these style stores) and the staff are always on hand and very helpful.

The prices aren't too bad for clothing anywhere is Chester but it has to be said that when you are getting things such as an Marks and Spencer wool coat for £30 in The Mill Shop, you'll be telling all your friends (or maybe not as you will want to keep it secret!). The Marks and Spencer underwear section at the back is usually particularly good. However, remember that all products have the labels chopped off and cut out of them so you have to be pretty familiar with the brands to guess where they're from!

It's fine if you want that particular brand, if you just want cheap clothes go to Primark instead. It also tends to be a bit chaotic, you'll often pick up an item only to find it isn't the size shown on the hanger, so you really need lots of time for a thorough search. Personnally I'm not normally bothered enough so I usually leave empty handed. Just as well really as it's about the only shop I know of that charges for carrier bags.
