Given how difficult it is to find a really great primary care physician, I'm surprised that there…read morearen't more reviews of them here. Five years ago I got my first grownup job in this area, and was presented with the enormous task of picking a new doctor. I had very little help as most of my friends were mostly accustomed to student health services, the essential but terrible health care of grad. students in any local university. Being unceremoniously presented with a phone book sized listing of providers from Blue Cross & Blue Shield provided nothing in the way of actual assistance in making a decision. I didn't choose Dr. Holt exactly randomly, but my criteria wasn't exactly scientific. I looked for listings that were: close to my apartment at the time, female, fairly young and with an American sounding name. In short somebody who I felt I could relate to and would feel comfortable asking questions of. I was more than willing to try multiple doctors until I found one that I could be comfortable with. As it turned out I didn't have to. I hit the jackpot on my first try with Dr. Holt. Dr. Holt is extremely thorough, taking actual time to have a conversation with me about medical concerns and also about general lifestyle choices. As a fairly healthy person I generally see her only 1-2 times a year, but she always appears to remember the conversations that we've had on previous visits. Her warmth and genuineness match the knowledge and skill she brings to her profession. Also, I don't want to over-share, but the ladies out there will understand the difficulty in finding a PCP who is willing to perform basic GYN care. Dr. Holt does both, and I love not having to keep two separate annual checkups. There's also a lab center on site. So convenient! I've had pretty good results in getting 'sick' appointment, never having to wait for more than 48 hours. However, I debated taking this review down a star because of how long it takes to make appointments for physicals or routine checkups. (Sometimes up to a month.) In the end I decided that all of the positives FAR outweigh this one minor issue.

I've been a patient of Dr Holt's for over 15 years now. I dread the day she retires and have to…read morefind a new primary care doctor, although that shouldn't be anytime soon! I hear stories about primary care doctors that rush, are impersonal, and don't leave the patient feeling like they matter. Dr. Holt couldn't be more opposite. She remembers all the details of not only my medical history, but my personal life as well. She listens to my concerns and creates treatment plans to address them. Three of my friends have become patients and rave about her too. If you can get in to see her, do it.

This practice used to be great. My early experiences circa 2019 were excellent. As soon as they…read moreconverted to MACC (CCH) things went downhill quickly. First, I was told I was no longer able to see physicians at this practice and would be required to select a new GP. My new GP was a 70 year old doctor at North Street whose solution to everything was to throw pills at me. After my first 6 months he decided he was going to retire and only worked 2 1/2 days a week. I was given the option of a new GP which I chose. My new GP was located at Strawberry Hill. It took 6 months to schedule with her. She lasted less than a year and quit. For 14 months I had no GP. Now a new GP has bern assigned and voila! he is at the Station Ave facility which is 2 miles from my house. This is infinitely better than the 20 mins it took to go to Hyannis. But wait! It gets better. My new GP met with me for orientation med review etc. Filled my scripts including my ADHD meds that I e taken for over 20 years. Upon my second visit, he had completely forgotten that we met, was generally acting like a 25 year old idiot telling me disgusting stories of his kidney surgery and then proceeded to tell me that he was cutting back my ADHD script by 67% that 'this is the best I can do for you'... are we cutting some sort of back room drug deal? Umm no. You're not qualified to make that determination, and you are not allowed to alter a 20 year old stabilized treatment plan. No sir, that will not work for me. Then I was systematically dehumanized, made to feel like I was treated like a drug addict, forced to sign a two page narcotics use contract that read like I had just been paroled from prison on drug charges, I was referred to an ADHD psychiatrist for re-evaluation (who happens to be a pediatric physician) and get this - he told me straight up 'I'm not writing your scripts for this anymore, and I'll write for two weeks and then you're on your own'. I was also forced to comply with random urinalysis screening that attempt to disqualify people from receiving care involving controlled substances. I went to execute the required labs at Quest, which is what I chose. The doctor conveniently changed the lab work to MACC's internal lab. Well now, looks like WAR it is after all. Nothing like being treated like a drug seeking junkie to make you realize your value as a human being or patient at MACC f.k.a. Emerald Physicians. Incidentally, my 20 year compliance record is SPOTLESS in terms of use, and I have decades of records to prove it, including 3 years of records with CCH, which MACC is part of now. I have never felt so denigrated, de-humanized and offended in my life. Jonathan Berg, you don't deserve to practice medicine here or anywhere. When you made my care about your agenda and not my treatment or health, you lost my respect permanently. Emerald Physicians/MACC has good doctors and excellent PA's and nurses. You're just not one of them. It is impossible to establish treatment/care relationships with any of the Doctors there that you'd want to see, as none have accepted new patients in many years. CCH continues to hire physicians who are in the business of medicine, vs. the care of patients. The physicians who try to care for their patients leave because the entire system is setup is toxic. Even the receptionists are pissed off and rude. I can't recommend this practice. If you don't need referrals, CCH Clinics are quite good.

Dr. Kelley is the most kind and giving man I've ever met…read more 30 years ago, he and his wife sponsored my family from Vietnam. They didn't know who we were, but wanted to help. They saved our lives. Despite having 3 kids of their own, they adopted an orphan from Vietnam. And since sponsoring us, they have sponsored 4 other families from Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. I don't know if you all know what a burden it is to sponsor a family. You are physically and finanacially responsible for these people until they can get on their feet. It's easier said than done. Just imaginge a whole family of strangers (who don't speak your language) living with you. They have opened up their hearts and their home for people in need. And for the past 23 years, Dr. Kelley has been traveling to Haiti ( a place in political turmoil) twice a year to work in the local hospital and help with the local orphans. He and his wife will be traveling there next year to also help reform the educational system. What a truly wonderful man! If you live in this area, is there any doubt as to which doctor you should see?

I'm surprised that no one else has reviewed Dr. Kelly. Maybe because us Yelpers tend to be younger…read moreand don't tend to go to doctors that often... but I feel Dr . Kelley needs to be recognized as a great Dr. as well as a humanitarian. It does not surprise me to see what Tu D. wrote about Dr. Kelley, I knew that he went to Haiti twice a year and that he had adopted a child from Vietnam but the sponsorship of families was something I didn't know about, but that really doesn't surprise me.... I've had Dr. Kelly as my PCP for a few years now and have always found him to be an incredibly caring individual who also is a really good, practical, doctor. don't expect a lot of bells and whistles when you go to his office, in fact he will probably complain to you about how the "damn computers" are making his life as a doctor a living hell... Do expect to find someone who will listen to you, treat you as an expert in your own care, and work with you to fix whatever is broken. He doesn't automatically reach for the prescription pad, but may just tell you why your mom was right about chicken soup is good for you when you have a cold and the science behind it.... I would strongly recommend that anyone go to see Dr. Kelley, being a good guy goes a long way in being a good doctor... and he's a great guy.
