Well they have a boat ramp into the water. They have a golf course..that's it..No picnic area, no bathrooms, no playgrounds..so we went on down the road to where it dead ends and loops into a parking lot area at the lake.. That's it.. I really wouldn't call it a State Park. There is some historical value here but NO signs or trails..nothing to tell you about it. I guess you have to look it up on the internet to find out any information about it. The lake was pretty though and we did stop to take a couple of photos and saw a guy in a row boat catch a fish.. Maybe there is something we missed? We will have to check it out another day..

I went in with mid level expectations, but left feeling like I could come here every Thanksgiving. It was such a peaceful and restful place to spend the holiday weekend. We rented a large cabin overlooking the lake. The views out of the back windows were beautiful and serene. It simply took the edge off of life for a bit. Anytime we needed anything, such as towels, the employees were super responsive and helpful. Additionally, since we work in public schools, the state rate for the cabins was reasonable. The Thanksgiving meal was excellent. The fried chicken stole the show, as did the sides. The spread was truly impressive. And, again, the employees were great. I would definitely come back for Thanksgiving dinner again. After that huge meal, we all needed to spend the next couple days hiking it off. The trail around the lake is really scenic and tranquil, even in the late fall. Another beautiful spectacle is the night sky. The eternal creator puts on an amazing presentation of stars on a clear night. It was super cold once the sun went down, but worth the cold to see all of the glory. It is truly difficult to wrap your mind around it all. I love our state parks. People may complain that they are dated. Whatever. I think they are great places to get away from it all. Pennyrile was never on my list, however. It definitely is now.

We first came across Pennyrile because a friend recommended it for camping. When we saw they had a lodge we felt it was like the best of both worlds to have a nature getaway without having to camp. Check in was smooth and we were given the local dinning options, which isn't much if don't want to but dinner from the kitchen. There is a Casey's about 15-20 minutes away but it's about half an hour to get to a Pizza Hut or Walmart. Breakfast buffet is included with the room and it has a normal continental. The lack of eating choices brings me to one of the dislikes about the room. There is no mini fridge or microwave in the room. So even if you brought food to cook on one of the grills they have around, there is no where to store your food or reheat it. We brought a cooler because we weren't sure if there was going to be a fridge and just utilized the ice machine a lot. While there they offer daily activities to campers and lodge guests. While we were there they were building sandcastles on the beach as well as some other activities for the kids. They also had glow mini golf in the early evening (for a fee). Now apart from the room amenities the other gripe I had was the pool. There were leaves and bugs and it didn't look like it had been cleaned for a few days. Now our visit was in mid August so there was no heavy leaf fall yet. All in all our visit was great and we do plan to return next summer.

Not a lot to see here and yes there are some better stops along the TN River/KY Lake but they are…read moremostly full-service and you can get gas and a pretty good burger here so that's why we stopped here a couple times. They do have transient slips available but we normally put in transient where cable, supplies and more amenities were available. For more info check out their website below. What you will find here is indeed fuel at their easily accessible fuel dock, as mentioned above there's transient docking available as well as annual slip rentals with free pump-outs. Their restaurant is Hu-B's and they serve breakfast, lunch & dinner. there's a breakfast buffet Saturdays & Sundays from 8am-11am May through September, while their daily lunch & dinner menu is pretty extensive with lots of tasty burgers, chicken, steak, bbq & grilled cheese sandwiches & wraps. You can also get baskets of shrimp, fish & a BLT. There are lots of fun starters, side and a few salads so there's a number of nice choices. My fave is actually cranberry chicken salad but the burger is really good too. Of course, you will learn when traversing the TN River from the Ohio all the way to Mobile, AL & the Gulf of Mexico that you will run into dry counties, especially in KY & MS and this little spot is DRY. So if you're like most prepared sailors you will be just fine because your coolers & fridges are perpetually stocked with the appropriate libations :-) Bottom line: This is a okay top for food & fuel but not a lot of other services. It's a bit shallow but if I can get my Hunter 310 in there with a 4.5' draft you should be fine. Note the marina is currently closed and scheduled to reopen April 2nd 2020. A quick google search revealed Barkley Watersports, and we booked in advance of our trip. The team was a breeze to work with - the day of the rental the weather looked questionable, but they offered to be flexible with our booking time to accommodate. In the end, the weather held out, and we were soon zipping all over the Little River section of the lake. I led the way, but not long after I let him try out driving. Once it looked like he had the hang of things, I jumped back on the jet ski and we cruised across the lake again. It was a great day to be out there, and we loved waving to fellow watercraft and stopping off at the beach for a dip.
