This visit to Evanston I didn't actually visit this beach, though I grew up in Evanston and thus have been to Lee Street Beach many times in my youth. This time, I visited the Lee Street Beach bathroom. Overall, it was a decent experience, but there were no lights on when I entered the building. It was pretty dim in there and I looked about for a light switch just as a sensor turned the lights on. I'd make an emergency stop here again. read more

I was passing through for the first time and had to stop to take a few pics. There's no sand. The water was calm. The park setting with trees, healthy grass that's well kept, and benches for relaxation. I'll have to come back with a picnic basket. read more

This is a wonderful, mellow beach that is great for children. As with a lot of the beaches, it stays very shallow for quite a ways out from the shoreline. At the south end, there is a wide open area of beach that is great for volleyball, frisbee, and other activities. The north end gets very narrow until it tapers away entirely. Risking lake levels have reduced the size of the beach somewhat m, but it's still a wonderful oasis. read more

Enjoying a quick weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle (not sure what bustle is). Lee Street is small and intimate. The sand is nice and the water is beautiful. The only things missing are close restrooms and food trucks. Will visit again when in town. read more

I jog along the bike path and come across this beach all the time. Lee Street beach is closed off and much quieter than Clark street beach. Today was chilly and the winds were unforgiving. Beach season has come to a close in Evanston but people still visit the beach, not to swim but to sit out on the sand, watch the waves, walk their dog, or just contemplate. It is free for all to access during the fall season. Take advantage of this. The weather may be cold and crappy but at least you can get in for free! At this time of year with these waves, I wouldn't bring the kids close to the water.... read more

We found Lee Street Beach to be a very nice and clean beach. There aren't any amenities other than the ice cream vendor and water fountain near the entrance, and the closest public bathroom is about a 1/2 a block away. But they do allow picnicking to make it easy for a nice afternoon on the beach. There is a small fee to enter and the park district also offers a seasonal membership. I believe Tuesday is the free day (check the website for specific info and updates). The lifeguards seem on top of their game, one even wading out over by the rocky area to the North to tell some kids to quite playing on the rocks. The only ugly thing about this beach is the wall on the south side of the beach, the houses there have private landings so the wall is to keep their area private. It wasn't as crowded as I expected it to be since we just had some scorching temperature days, so the beach seemed kind of spacious. I don't know if that's the norm numbers wise, but it made for a very enjoyable time. The sand is soft in most areas and it was a good water day (you can follow the Evanston Park District on twitter too to get the most up-to-date water and temperature conditions) Elliott Park close by can get crowded with people BBQing, picnicking, etc so parking on Lake Shore Blvd on weekends can get difficult. Parking on Sheridan might be easier and it's also free. read more

Nice small beach near Elliot park which has some things to do in it. This beach is mainly for relaxation. Small swimming area. Rock front which is hard on the feet. Parking very easy, accessible for disabled, life guards on duty but they are teenagers and college students who are pretty rude at times. Pay at the gate or use tokens. I don't see how people wrote this place great reviews the staff was too busy on a phone or worried about a fidget spinner. The beach was dirty and there's no near by bathroom over a block away which was really filthy. I don't see why they charge $6 a kid and $8 for a adult to swim here. Not to mention they said my son couldn't swim with his googles because it had a nose snorkel save your money and go somewhere else read more

This beach is great because it is right by Elliott Park! The beach itself is nothing too special but Elliott Park is so new, clean and nice. The place I stay at is close to here so I just walk east and come down to the beach. The walk Chicago Ave all the way to lakeshore is alright, you get some good glimpses of huge houses. But I think you can get better house browsing were you walking down other streets nearby. I am thankful to have lee street beach close by but it is definitely not as nice as clark street beach or lighthouse beach which is my favorite. read more

I seriously have been going here since 1963. As a teenager it was the place to be in the summer. After married with three children always chose Lee st because there are a lot of young families. I met one of my best friends there. Going back this year changing from Greenwood beach I brought my grandchildren. It was great. Nothing has changed and for Evanston of late that is unusual. Lovely beach. Lifeguards great. We spent their whole vacation everyday it was sunny. Sandcastles and pretty shallow beginning. Wonderful Beach read more

$8 entrance fee. At first I thought it was crazy. But I guess itz a hood idea keep people out who's up to no good.

The life guards are very rude and disrespectful. Had an unpleasant experience. These people clearly do not know how to do their jobs well and it's upsetting. Next time I will choose a different beach with nicer people. read more

I appreciate the beauty of Lake Michigan (don't we all!), and this beach does a great job showcasing it's beauty. I especially like it because it is clean and has enough real estate so that even on very busy days, there is enough space to spread out on. It's deep too, so that you can play catch or be active on the west side of the beach without disturbing all the folks at the water's edge. read more

It's February, a major snowstorm is brewing--perfect time to review beaches. Evanston beaches all share some common unloved features: fee for use (reasonable if amortized with a resident season pass, less reasonable if bought on a day-entry basis), small swim areas, lots of whistle-blowing lifeguards. If the wind is blowing right, I can hear the refrain of "Get off the rocks!" from my yard. But still, it's the lake, so for me, it's hard to find a beach that merits fewer than three stars.That being said, Lee Street Beach isn't necessarily my favorite beach, but it is a popular beach for families. It's about in the middle of the attractive scale for Evanston beaches, backed and flanked on one side by attractive homes. There's a plastic pier-like walkway that eases the way for strollers and the like to get close to the water, so there are typically a lot of people here with very young children. You can find some quieter stretches of sand on the north end of the beach, but you won't be so close to the swimming area. There's a little corral for locking bikes, and there's usually an ice-cream truck parked for treats, plus sometimes a La Monarca guy wheeling through. Take a walk north and another turn or two along the beachfront path, and there's a nice playground near Dempster and ample picnic areas. read more

I was expecting a nice beach where I could go out and play in the water, but there was a restricted that was small and anywhere else I could not swim. Another reason I am upset is because it costed $8.00 for Adults(Above 12 years old) $6.00 for kids (under 11 years old). Also, if you go make sure you look at all the rules such as; not allowed to throw a ball outside of the small area they gave us to stay in the water. Overall, not worth my money! read more
