After visiting a friend who lives in Evanston, I happened upon this adorable little beach. There was a storm brewing so I stopped for a few minutes to check out the gorgeous sky over Lake Michigan. Tucked away almost hidden, I found a clean beach, a walking trail, an elevated lookout area and a variety of trees and foliage. There is certainly a lot to offer for such a small area. Since it was after the bustling summer season, there were only a few of us enjoying this adorable bit of nature. There was a couple walking the beach and a family walking the small trail. I had stopped for a cup of coffee before arriving. So I sipped my hot beverage on a brisk afternoon and enjoyed the show the stormy fall sky was offering. I thoroughly appreciated this tiny piece of nature just minutes from the high energy city of Chicago. I will definitely visit again when I am looking for a moment to relax.

There's a nice beach with a park and lighthouse. Parking is $0.5 per hour, which is pretty acceptable. Great view from a little Tera car and picnic area.

This is one of my favorite places. The beach is smaller, but the views are beautiful. It's always very clean, and there's a park nearby. There's also a lawn up by the mansion where I do yoga with Heaven Meets Earth studio at sunrise. There's nothing else like it...

Can you put a price on lying at the beach, watching clouds go by on a perfect July day? Answer: Yes. And that price is $8 per person. *** I'll admit that price seemed kind of steep, but then I took into account my general cheapness and the fact that they had a free parking lot, lifeguards, the beach was clean, rather quiet, not at all crowded, has a cool lighthouse, and handy bathrooms with those outside shower things to get the sand off you before you go to your car and it seemed like a really fair price. In fact, I'd rather pay the $8 to come all the way up to Evanston and go to the beach than to just a-line into the city for the gnarly free beeches there. It's worth it to be in the cleaner, quieter, more relaxing atmosphere that's clearly using your $8 entry fee wisely by hiring staff and keeping the shoreline in almost pristine condition. I do wish they'd charge a lesser fee after a certain hour because it sucks to pay the full price at like, 5:30 when there's hardly any daylight left to enjoy the beach, but I get that they're probably just trying to make things less complicated with the one fee. Plus, it's super easy to sneak in here... not that I'm admitting guilt or anything, but just in case you were wondering. It does involve a bit of trespassing on private property though and you *might* have to walk through a homeless squatter's bed/empty bottle collection/and other various treasures collection to get there. ... or you can just pony up the 8 bucks. I'll let you weigh it out on your own.

Like this beach. The stones on the bottom of the water reduces the stars. But a small beach with a lighthouse. Recommended

You need a beach pass to even enter the beach. They don't even inform us kn where to get an access pass to even enter.

Came here at night to see the perseids. It was darker than the surroundings and a great place to try to avoid the light pollution.

I love this beach so much! It's beautiful and clean, but just recently, they fenced up a few parts…read moreof the beach and now require payment for residents and non-residents AND when you leave one part of the paid beach to move to another part, you have to pay again! Which is absurd. I was also thinking about renting out a shelter for a party, but the park doesn't allow you to bring your own grill, doesn't allow alcohol, only provides you with two tables, and you have to still pay for parking and access to the beach. It all just seems like a money grab, which sucks because the beach was free to the public for so long! I know a lot of people are upset about the new rules. Aside from that, there is a park, tennis courts, and Fat Shallot, where they serve food and drinks. There is also a patio area to eat and drink, and outdoor showers. PARK ON MICHIGAN AVE and just walk down to avoid some fees!

If you want to actually be able to walk on a beach and not feel crowded, then head up a ways. Be careful about where you park because you can find places for free. There's also plenty of green space for athletic fields. Gillson is a big park, and that makes it feel not as crowded. It has several different parts. There's the actual park with the grass and trees. It's often very quiet here. Where's all the people? At the beach. This beach is still less crowded than any of the Chicago beaches full of both locals and tourists. It has a nice little play area. The sand is pretty clear of debris for the most part. Also at this park is a big ass marina. There's lots of boats, and there's also a club you can join if you can pay up. However you spend time here, just be careful about parking or it may be costly. It has pay lots close to the beach but you can find free parking on the residential streets. They have certain places where you can't park though, so pay attention to signs and whatever.
