Very boring, slow ride for the price. Main trail leader (owner?) and her assistant were not very welcoming. No greeting or conversation before riding. Just took our money and made sure we signed the waiver. We didn't even get a "hello" or "welcome". Definitely didn't get a goodbye and or "thank you". Word of advice: be grateful to out of towner's here supporting your community. Not as if we are a burden. read more

Would have given this horseback riding Stable a higher review but for our guide, Lauren, only gabe us a 45-minute ride. Otherwise she was excellent. The frustration comes from when I made the reservation,I offered to get there for a 9:30 private trail ride with my son because I knew she had a tour at 11. When I even asked if we would cutting it close; she said no. For $150 for two people to go on a one-hour very basic open trail ride they should make an effort to make it at least a full hour. read more

Lee's Riding Stable - Horseback Riding Near Me - Litchfield, Connecticut

A few us rented a log cabin up in the countryside, just about 20 miles north of Litchfield. For the first few days we did virtually nothing except for eating and drinking. The only times we left the house were to buy more booze and groceries. By day four, all of us were having trouble waking up before noon and fitting into our clothes. So deeply relaxing. But, alas, we thought it was necessary to ease our way out of hermit mode by doing something "active" on our last day. We woke up too late to take advantage of kayaking, so we opted for horseback riding. Lee's Riding Stable is super scenic and is located near CT 8. Nicely run and great environment. The horses seem very well maintained - a nice departure from the sick horses we rode in Costa Rica. Sabrina seems to be the manager and was a nice guide. The trail ride was $35 for about 1 hour. On the plus side, it was a beautiful day and it was so great to get out into the woods with a beautiful horse. On the con side, we and others were misled by just how long the riding schedule was delayed. We were told it was going to be 15-30 mins before the next ride, but it ended up being an hour, and we think they knew that. We would have probably left had we known, which is why we think we were told it would be a much shorter wait. Other people who were also told 15 minutes decided to leave. We would have liked more freedom to ride faster with our horses and this trail ride was definitely geared towards families looking for a fun little outing. But it was a nice little diversion to get us out of the house. Definitely a nice way to enjoy the countryside on a beautiful day. read more

I was in the area and called on a whim to see if I could stop by and watch the horses. I don't ride. There was a very nice young man who was changing the shoes on one of the horses and he told me all about what he was doing. He told me that I could walk through the stable to look at the horses. My sister, mom and I signed up for an hour trail ride. They were very disorganized when we arrived. They did not warn us when we called to make a reservation that they only take cash or check. It took them a long time to get the horses together and by the time we got started we were 20 minutes late yet we ended after only 40 minutes when we were supposed to get an hour. It was the most boring trail I have ever been on and most of it was walking down the road to the trail itself. The tour guide was not that great and not very personable. It was definitely not worth the $40 a person and I would not go back. We would have liked to go at a slightly faster pace like a trot but the tour guide had us walk very slowly the whole time. However, the horses were beautiful, well cared for and the setting was very nice. read more

Yesterday my 13 year-old niece and I went on a trail ride here with two beautiful, gentle horses. Our guide Mariah was excellent and the trail was easy and safe for beginners. It was a nice escape from the usual busy pace of life and the scenery when you get to the open fields makes you forget you are in congested CT. Our mounts were ready to go right after we signed in. All of the staff was very friendly and we enjoyed walking around after the ride, looking at some of the most colorful horses we've ever seen. This is a great way to spend a few hours connecting with nature and some majestic creatures! read more

This past Saturday we went on a one hour trail ride at 10 am. It was $45 per person. They had us sign waivers and then they fitted us with helmets and set us up with our horses. There was less than one minute of instruction on how to control the horse which made me rather uneasy as a beginner. We set out on a very slow ride on a trail that was quite flat and boring. Our guide talked with my friend who was in front the entire time, but I couldn't hear her and neither could my friend who was behind me. She was clearly friendly, but the knowledge she was sharing could not be heard. My horse kept stopping and going off the trail to eat the flowers and the bushes, which made me feel out of control. It was hard to hear our guide's instructions to help me out of the situation. Overall the experience was fine, there are not many options in the area. The horses were clean and clearly well cared for. For the most part I would say they are well trained. After it was over we fed the baby horse apples from the apple trees lining the road. Final note: the only bathroom is a port-o-potty! read more

We were in Litchfield and decided to take our daughter (2) for a "real" pony ride because she is obsessed with horses (she has the picture book we got her on them memorized) and has been on smaller ponies a half dozen times at our local PYO farm near home. So being at a real stable was very exciting for her. While waiting, we got to pet the big horses (who were all super sweet) and she was over the moon with being able to be on her pony until she was ready to get down (which wound up being four times). It was me and my girlfriends one year the other day and I decided to bring her horseback riding 10/165/2016. I thought Litchfield, CT would of been a nice scenic adventure to go horseback riding. I requested in advance for a private trail tour for just the two of us. We were super excited for the adventure. My girlfriend has ridden horses all her life and I was hoping it would of been a nice exciting experience for her since the last time she was on a horse was 3 years ago. The price was definitely not worth $65.00 a person for the experience. The horses are definitely well taken care of but lacking in being trained, but you can definitely tell the horses are old, fat, and lazy. The horses were extremely slow, we went at least a half mile on the trail. I could of walked faster. I was expecting a scenic route that lures tourist to come back to such a beautiful town, but I did not get this feeling. The guide was in front and my girlfriend was in front of me and I was behind. I was personally disappointed because the guide was just talking with my girlfriend and not me. I was always far behind and could not get the horse to go faster or stop eating branches. I got the impression that George (the horse), was taking advantage of the fact I was a beginner, I also knew the horse didn't like the fact I was on him because how his ears were pointed towards me. I was not instructed in the beginning how to get the horse to stop eating branches or to speed up unless it actually happened. Even then it was hard to hear the guide to her instructions on exactly what I need to do. I would say I was between 50 to 100 feet behind them. My girlfriend (being an experienced rider) came to the conclusion that they are old, fat, lazy and don't obey commands. The farm asks if you are an experienced rider but they don't even do anything about it and for who already knows how to ride horses its really frustrating to pay that amount of money for a horse that doesn't do follow commands. So for overall, I would not suggest this place to anyone, but I would suggest to people if they want to see scenic areas or a beautiful town, I would suggest Litchfield, CT. After our experience we decided to go towards the center of town of Litchfield and found a really good pub/ restaurant called At the Corner, and the bartender is really friendly, and fun. I highly suggest checking out that place if you like good food and drinks. read more

We took out children and a friend for an hour long trail ride at $40 per person, cash.... they were late with the prior trail ride and therefore we started 40 min late. We were Ok with this but after the 40 minutes the trail ride was over. The trail guide had absolutely no personality at all and when I brought it to their attention that we were only on the trail 40 minutes, the response was - I don't look at my watch. For $200 I would expect a little personality, an apology and an offer of either a partial refund or discount for the next rail ride. Not worth the cash. I would recommend trying somewhere else, these people could care less about your experience. read more
