I was actually heading to salsa at Casablanca when the flags of my two favorite states (Arkansas and Tennessee) caught my eye across the street. I ventured in to have a sneak peek. Unfortunately I had just missed the live music so I will have to go again but the vibe made me feel like I had been transported back down South. I really liked the red interior, booths, and chandeliers. I am a bit confused by the stuffed monkey on the stage though... Will be able to give a better review next time when I grab a drink off the menu! Will share if the drinks are as good as they make them in the South. read more

Hey, Lefty's! I'm feeling what you're putting down. You're so cool and yet you probably don't even realise it. Well played, Sir, well played. We were set to see a movie at The Barracks across the road from Caxton Street and rather than dine at any number of the respectable choices in the Barracks centre, I made a beeline for Lefty's. Arriving just before 6 I was the sole punter in this seriously brooding and sexy bar. Would it seem out of place to see Saloon girls do the can can atop the higher level balcony? Probably not. I approached the bar and asked the bar keep what their house drink was. "Whiskey and apple," he said tossing a Granny Smith apple in his hand. Yeah, not just apple juice from a bottle but freshly squeezed, baby. I was all prepped to order said drink when he let slip it also goes well with Gin. You, mister, are good. "I'll take a gin and apple, thanks!" My dining partner arrived and we settled each on having their interpretation of the cheeseburger. Be warned: unless you are ravenous, you'll easily be able to share this between two. We didn't realise this and I tapped out long before I could claim my plate of fries and burger complete. Still, it was delicious and for $12 it's an affordable take on "pub grub." This place already had some serious swagger at 6pm on a Wednesday night, I can only imagine (and look forward to seeing it) in full swing on a Friday or Saturday eve. read more

Amaaaaaazing find... Just go in here. Please. You won't regret it!!! Strolled in here on a Wednesday while visitng a friend in Brisbane, and wow... I have to say.. One of the best things I've ever done. I know... You're thinking, "could it really be THAT awesome?" Yes. It can. We saw a three piece group (blanking on the name... Sorry!) and it was swing/rockabilly band. They clearly had a following because some incredible dancers fled the d-floor. I was extremely jealous of their moves... But kept dancing in my chair, wide-eyed. If you like live music, and quality dancing, spend an hour at least just taking in the vibe. Drinks are good and the food looked decent although we didn't eat here. Thank you Leftys!!! read more

Lefty's is where you go when you're down for a good, old fashioned rootin' tootin' hootenanny! The atmosphere in here is absolutely delightful - the decor is majestic in it's classic vaudeville style, they always seem to find amazing bands to perform (I saw a wicked Johnny Cash cover band last time, and never before have I seen a drummer rock that hard!). The upstairs area is a great place to stand and watch the night go by, complete by the gorgeous little nautical themed hide-away bar behind an unassuming door in the back left. Drinks are imaginative and well priced, the bar staff are all beautiful, skilled individuals. Something exciting that stands out amongst Brisbane vast selection of bars, pubs and clubs. I can't wait to lace up my dancin' shoes and go get my freak on again soon. read more

Replacing the Velvet Cigar Lefty's has got a great thing going. Good drinks, good food, great music and a healthy vibe. A whiskey (Bourbon) bar at heart the venue has a mash of the venues old life and new influences from your typical all American southern bar which works well. Excellent selection of drinks including their speciality whiskey and freshly juiced apple, however as a bourbon and whiskey lover, get a double shot! Food is Southern American, get ready for some deep fried action and the cheeseburgers are freaking delicious. Great service by all staff. Live music provided by local blues and country bands, keeping it chill through dinner and stepping it up on the dance floor for a good boogie later in to the night. You could take your parents here, or your first date. It all works but it gets full by 10pm. d. read more

What an awesome place, pulls a diverse and active crowd adding to its genuine feel. The music is lively and the setting is great. i felt like I was transported back to the US listening to their live music, and free entry on a saturday night. My only regret is that we didnt come earlier in the night. read more

Probably one of the best bars I have seen in Brisbane yet. The space is eclectic with a great layout- we loved the balcony overlooking the mess of hens night groups and drunkards rocking out to a local country band. Decent selection of beers and spirits. All around solid ambiance. Get there early to secure at table or you will be mingling and swaying with the life of the party. read more

Great for an old fashioned time :-) We headed in recently for a bit of a celebration, a sweet dance and so many apple and whiskies that I haven't had any apple for a while. It was amazing. Great southern food that kept coming, great staff and the atmosphere was just happy, vibrant and like an endless party. Live music - win! Recommend going with your mates, make sure you're cashed up, and have a good ol'time. read more

This place is pretty eclectic! I went there after a yelp event and loved it! I never knew it existed until I rocked up with a few other! Totally loved the band on the night, and the music. The staff were super nice, and pretty awake at 10 or something... Something I wish I was when I found out how cool this place is! I definitely want to come back later when I'm totally sober and might actually start here first before heading somewhere else! As far as bars go in Brisbane, this place is as good as it gets. Fantastic live bluegrass and country music, and a great space for dancing and partying late into the night. The apple and whiskey drink, including freshly juiced granny smith apples is absolute genius. The ambiance is wild west meets Funkytown and the servers are super efficient, as they are distributed across what I believe was four separate bars throughout the venue! read more

I suppose I keep my voting average skewed quite high, but I do a lot of research before I travel new places (thanks, Yelpers!) and Lefty's kept popping up on the radar. Took a group of friends over to Caxton and wandered in. This was one venue that everyone unequivocally loved the vibe of. The space itself is super cool, but even better is the fact that they brought it up to speed without using much polish - old is old, and old is cool. Even the table numbers for food are old whiskey bottles spraypainted black, then stenciled with a number in white. Fun little touches like that garner my respect every time. Drinks - good tap selection, and the barrel-aged Manhattan on tap is quite good as well. Macallan 25 at 10 bones a shot? Unheard of in Brisbane. Food - ok, here is where we were really blown away. At first we weren't even sure they had any, but I'd read the burgers were to die for, so we dug a little deeper. Turns out we're just blind, because the menu is painted on the wall about 15' high. Simple - wings, burgers, or po' boys. Soup of the Day is Whiskey (again, nice touch). Around the table we tried one of everything, and while the shrimp po'boy got rave reviews, the cheeseburgers simply stopped us in our tracks. Buttery brioche bun, fresh veggies, curry ketchup (yes folks, even over here I'm going to call it ketchup), and a rich, juicy patty. Trying to heft this sandwich was like experiencing a gravitational anomaly - it felt 3 times heavier than it looked like it should. I can only attribute that to the extra flavors that are well beyond the curry, and I also (hate to) have to admit there were some in there none of us could place. The thing is amazing. Vibe - so, the venue is obviously cool. The staff had a pretty amazing range of facial hair, and were casual but efficient and friendly. After the rugby game, and before the music started, Lefty's went from about 10 people to a couple of hundred in less than an hour. It was a deep crowd at the bar, but service was still pretty quick. Once the band started, we were glad to have gotten there early, as we already had the closest booth to the stage. The music (La Bastard, doing rockabilly and Johnny Cash covers) was tight, entertaining, and at the perfect volume - no one was oblivious to the fact that a concert was happening, but even right at the stage we could talk across the table. Good looking decoration, den lights, wooden structure, old looking and prefect Bar guys are always funny and patient, tI'm not profession about drinks yrt they are always happy to explain the whiskey to u Second floor is a separate rum place. The bartender upstairs is amazing. Oh did I mention they have live music? Not sure it's on Friday nite or Saturday nite but they have a band. Anyway the drinks, atmosphere, the whole looking is just prefect for a leisure night out. I'd love to revisit and revisit again read more

Lefty's has a great atmosphere. Has a sense of inclusiveness about it. You don't have to be of a particular type to feel good about being there. Very comfortable, inviting you to settle in and enjoy the view. Totally loved it and will wander in there again real soon read more
