I understand it's the ER, but when all other offices are closed and your kid is sick there aren't many options. avoid it at all cost if you can. we waited over an hour and a half for the doctor to come in after my daughter was brought back for a strep swab. its a 10-15 minute lab result, a 30-45 minute wait time is reasonable. it's clear they don't care unless someone's life may be in danger. read more

My advice: If you really need the emergency department, save yourself a lot of grief and call an ambulance. It doesn't hurt to mention those pesky chest pains to get someone's attention there, otherwise you could die in the waiting room. read more

We had an incredibly frustrating experience at the emergency department on March 27, 2025. Normally, I don't write reviews, but the severity of this situation, especially as a pharmacist who cares about patient care, compelled me to share my mom's experience in hopes of making a difference. We went there because my mom was suffering from severe back pain, and given that she is a cancer patient, we expected better attention. Unfortunately, we waited from 11 PM until 5 AM without any explanation. They seemed to prioritize her lower because of her cancer diagnosis, assuming her pain was related to that, even after I informed them that her oncologist recommended a CT scan to check for kidney stones. After the CT scan, the radiologist didn't mention anything about the kidneys, and the ED doctor only read the report without reviewing the images. They suggested that her pain might be due to fluid in her lung, despite my insistence that the fluid had been present for a while and was unlikely to be the cause of her current pain. They also found blood in her urine but couldn't explain why. Ultimately, we were sent home, and her pain worsened. We had to go to another emergency department (OHSU ED), where they quickly reviewed the CT scan from Legacy and discovered a kidney stone in the ureter, which was the actual cause of her pain. It's heartbreaking to see my mom suffer like this, and if they had been more diligent, they could have provided her with the necessary relief. Additionally, the nurse inserted an IV in a very uncomfortable manner, and when they removed it quickly, it caused my mom to bruise. I'm reaching out with the hope of making a difference in the healthcare system. Just because someone is a cancer patient doesn't mean that every pain they feel is due to cancer. When patients come in, they want to be listened to, cared for, and given the same attention as any other patient. They deserve thorough assessments and compassionate care, regardless of their diagnosis. It's disheartening to see how easily their concerns can be overlooked, leading to unnecessary suffering. My mom's experience showed me that assumptions can lead to delays in proper treatment and relief. Please, I urge you to take action on this. I don't want anyone else to experience what we went through. It's crucial that we advocate for better understanding and support for all patients, especially those dealing with complex health issues like cancer. read more

Good quality care (except for one sour nurse) during my 3-day stay for surgery. The food options are pretty lousy and limited. Worst part is the size of the rooms, stuffy and super claustrophobic, the patient rooms are about the size of a small walk-in closet, no joke. Maybe 10x6. Staff constantly bumping into equipment and your bed while you're trying to rest. You can fit a bed and little visitor chair in there, or your bed and a patient recliner, but the recliner needs to be moved to the hall first if you want to access your tiny bathroom. So it's a big hassle and rearrangement when you need to use the bathroom. If you've ever seen Grocho Marx's "A Night at the Opera," you know what I'm talking about. Sleeping in such a tiny coffin of a room for 3 nights was bad. I was smashed up next to a small counter and wall. The vitals equipment all hung over the bed from that wall, so your nurse has to stretch, lean, and fall into you to get to it. A garbage can sits at the foot of the bed, and above it is the nurse's computer station, so they cram in there sideways with a trash can to do charting. That garbage can is wedged between the foot of your bed and the front wall, which means you are staring at about 3' in front of you and can crane your neck up to the ceiling to see a TV. When it's time to use the bathroom, they have a portable commode crammed in there too, so you have to just sorta back in and sit on the toilet. It's so crammed and claustrophobic. I wonder who designed this place? It's certainly not designed for patient care. If you're there, have someone bring you food! It's really bad options otherwise. I had just had kidney surgery and moved from clear liquids to solid food on the second day.... They brought me fried chicken fingers and a bag of potato chips! Like, how is that a healthy or nutritious choice for anyone? Fortunately they had little half sandwiches in the nursing station they could bring me. I pretty much subsisted on those until I could leave. None of the choices seemed light or easily digestible (meatloaf? Spaghetti? Eggs and bacon?). When asked, I always went with the lighter choices, but they weren't very appetizing, either (lukewarm oatmeal with hot water and a packet of brown sugar, canned peaches in syrup... lunch was a tiny bag of dried-up baby carrots and some hummus. The salad was freezer burnt and I was brought a gloppy cup of ranch for it, hockey puck wheat roll with no butter, hard-boiled egg smashed in a condiment cup. Anyways, I was glad to have a successful surgery and treated well in recovery. But the room itself and food really are dreadful. read more

I was in excruciating pain in my right shoulder, a level of discomfort I had never felt before. A family member drove me to the ER at Mt. Hood Hospital, where they waited with me for over an hour before I insisted they go home, knowing this ordeal would take ages. I endured seven hours of relentless pain before finally being taken to a room, only to wait another hour for a doctor. When he finally arrived, he examined my shoulder, took an X-ray, and sent me home with a couple of ineffective pain pills. The next morning, my primary care physician saw me as an emergency case and resolved the issue in just 20 minutes with a cortisone shot and a proper pain reliever. The relief was immediate, and our conversation ended with a simple plan: have a couple of drinks, take two extra-strength Tylenol, and check in with him the next day. I couldn't help but feel frustrated about the hours wasted in that torturous waiting room with little to show for it. read more

I recently had outpatient surgery, after a series of office visits in this facility. I have breast cancer and had a left mastectomy. My experience was positive in every way, from reception, to lab services, to pre and post op. I go to building 4 in the complex, for all services including surgery. This is next to the main hospital. There is always someone at the door to ask questions about possible recent exposure to Covid. They screen me and my companion quickly and professionally. That check in is next to the lab in the lobby, where I had blood drawn. I had a trainee that day take my blood. She was well supervised, confident, and did a great job. Hardly felt it. My surgical oncologist, Dr. Aks, is on the 2nd floor. Her staff are outstanding. I've been surrounded by abundant kindness at every step of this miserable process. If it could be made easier for me, it was because they were so good. Everything was explained, all my questions answered. I had space and time to thi k things over. They helped me make the decisions that fit me and my lifestyle. We used the Legacy app to communicate messages, test results, appointment notes, billing, and calendar reminders. I totally recommend using the app. I was also able to use it to set up a no interest payment plan for the part of this that isnt covered by my insurance. No applications, forms, or proving income, just help making it manageable. The surgical area is also accessed through building 4. Day of my procedure I got there early with my companion. We were helped by my nurse, Lynn. She was everything you want. Funny, compassionate, super good at all the technical details of her job like placing the IV. She made it easier for me to deal with everything. Then it was just quick. Someone came and shot me full of blue dye (helps to find the sentinel lymph nodes), I met the anesthesiologist, Dr. Aks came in and we confirmed everything was still exactly what I wanted, then they put a little something special in my IV and away we went. I woke up, it was done. Lynn stayed nearby while I got myself together then wheeled me out to the car and handed me a barf bag. She said, " you might need this." She was right. It's been 4 days and I'm feeling okay, not awesome. Still got a drain in my chest, get that out Tuesday. Bottom line - my experience at this facility with this staff, has been exactly what I needed. The security guys were jerks which is not great when youre a 29 year old coming to the ER for POSSIBLE HEART PROBLEMS. I understand why they're there though considering the shootings that happen and I do appreciate how thorough they are. The front desk people seemed confused and slow...but calm. Triage nurse was great. Definitely not the best or worst triage room, I've seen way worse but I'm sure I came on a good day. The best part was Dr Bryant who was a literal angel and had great bedside manner. I was very scared and he was very competent and thorough and I think if I had a serious problem (urgent care sent me to rule out a possible emergency) he would've known and would've handled it really well. It def helped me a lot. The nurses were great and could really be shown some more love in general, I know they're overworked and probably get treated like shit from a lot of patients. All in all I felt pretty safe there, I don't go to the ER very often and I felt like it was ok. Plus I only waited 2.5 hours instead of 6! read more

In 2021 I came here by ambulance in severe abdominal pain. This was only 4 days after childbirth. They treated me HORRIBLY. I had no one with me. The MALE doctor who I can only assume has never experienced child birthing pains (because he's a man and stated he had never felt child birthing pains) explained to me that I was experiencing child birthing pain. Even though I explained to him that I had a child before and this was NOTHING RELATED TO CHILD BIRTHING PAINS. I stated that I did not need narcotics I needed an answer. He didn't care. He sent me home with Morphine and a nap. A couple hours later I woke up with a worse fever and sweating bullets. My sister had to pick me up and carry me to the car to get me to Kaiser emergency. We couldn't call the ambulance because they would have taken us back to Mt.Hood. Anyways. I was pretty close to dead as Kaiser confirmed that my appendix had ruptured and had to have been ruptured for quite sometime as my abdominal cavity was filled with feces. Took my handicapped daughter in for an MRI today. She needed to be transferred by Hoyer to the gurney. There was not one or two or three people to help get her on there safely. There was 4 of them. Her safety was a high priority but they also made the whole experience very fun. It was not her first MRI but it was her best experience so far, she even got a nap in. Had to goto the ER the other day, what an amazing team of folks they have working there. All those one star reviews are total BS and written by folks who probably think the world revolves around them and would watch someone bleed to death but wouldn't help them to keep their own clothing clean. Phil (nurse?) and Ellie (maybe a nurse or MA) were awesome. Dr. Richard was busy as can be but very thorough and caring. When I explained I was a pain level 10 but didn't want any opiate based pain killers (not an addict just scared of opioid stuff)the Dr. told me the options and showed true concern about my weariness when it came to drugs. They got me all good to go and sent me on my way. All in all I was taken care on an amazing level and out of there in 3 hours flat. The only crappy thing about this place was all the jerks in the lobby who must of thought they owned the place or something. It was however very entertaining to watch the staff be nothing but nice and deflecting all the jerks BS over and over again. If yelp had 10 stars I'd give this ER all 10. read more

I went to the ER at 7am for pain in my lower right abdomen. I was checked in and seen within 20 minutes by the doctor who then ordered a CAT scan. He immediately put me on an IV in preparation for the scan. Once the scan was done and reviewed by the doctor I was informed that I needed an appendectomy. By 10am I was being prep'd for surgery. By 1:30 I was in recovery and soon on my way to my room for post op care. By 4 o'clock I was home resting. From the moment I walked in everyone was extremely friendly and professional and efficient. Even when we expect exceptional care it was amazing that my treatment at LMHMC exceeded those high expectations. Well I couldn't even walk thru to emergency because they have security guards with a huge metal detector and they have you strip down like your in the unty jail. I was told I couldn't walk in because I had a pocket torch lighter. What would they do refuse me service if I called an ambulance because I had a touch lighter. No I doubt they would which that's exactly what I feel like doing but I'm not going to waist the ambalence people's time . Terrible hospital. Went into the emergency room (2.5 hours for a dislocated finger, and the bill came to over $2000! Ridiculous! For a finger! And those charges do NOT cover X-ray costs, which were extra. To make things worse, they failed to set my finger properly, and I had to go to my regular doctor (OHSU, a real hospital with real doctors) to get it fixed correctly. Never again. I also work at OHSU, and I will do my best to steer people away from Legacy Mount Hood in the future, which shouldn't be too hard to do considering the low ratings on Yelp. Update 5-26-17: 2 months after my incident, still receiving bills for random things from this hospital. I have excellent insurance, but I'm constantly being billed (and having to pay) for completely random things. For a dislocated finger, the bill is now close to $3300. read more

I'm appalled at the attitude of the staff and their rudeness to be so uncaring. I would never recommend the medical center to anyone. I wouldn't have even given them 1 star, but didn't know how to give it a -5. Update: When they were finally going to give up at 8:00, they called her back. I had a "hammer toe" outpatient surgery at My. Hood. Everyone and everything was ready when I arrived, as requested, 2 hours prior to surgery. I was introduced to cheerful, efficient, caring nurses. My multiply challenged brother Steven (legally blind, mentally disabled, has seizures and other physical issues) was taken to Legacy Mt. Hood Medical Center by ambulance. He had Covid and called me to let me know he had fallen down and could not get up. Because of weather issues- ice and snow I had to call 911. As soon as I was able to learn he had gone to Legacy I called the hospital to find out how Steven was doing. No one would talk to me or listen to me when I tried to tell them of all the challenges my brother had. I called three times while he was in their care? Not once would anyone help me connect with my brother, even though he kept asking the staff to call his sister. They had both my cell phone number which I had given to them the first two times I called and my sister's cell phone number which Steve had given them. They ran some tests then decided Steve needed to go home because he had no "life threatening" issues. A staff member at the hospital told my brother he had contacted my sister and let her know he was being discharged. That is an absolute lie. No one contacted my sister. They put my brother in a wheelchair and stuck him in the lobby for hours. Yes they did feed him first (Thus the one star). Care Ride (a wonderful program) was finally able to pick Steven up at 2:00 AM. My sick brother sat in a wheelchair unable to talk with me or my sister for hours. Even though I and my brother kept pleading to be able to talk with each other we were both ignored, it seems not one person was able to use their two legs and feet to walk over to my brother and help him call us or to even call us even though they had our phone numbers. I would not advise anyone to use Legacy their lack of communication to worried families and their lack of desire to listen to their patient is just appalling. read more

Took my 7 year old into emergency after she split open her nose on the playground. They put us in a room and looked at it then said they would transfer us to a children's hospital. It took over an hour to get paperwork together to just get transferred. They didn't tell us how long it would take either they just left us in a room and kept saying they had to get us paperwork before we could go. They didn't dress her bleeding nose they just kept telling us to wait with little communication about what to expect. Over 45 of waiting when I finally got a nurse to help bandage her nose so she didn't have to hold the old bloody gauze to her face anymore. When I asked how much longer they gave me attitude and said there's nothing they could do about the wait. Poor communication and bad manners over my 7 year olds care left me so frustrated that I had to fight for basic consideration for my daughter. Never going back read more

I had emergency laparoscopic gallbladder surgery here last week, it was the first time anything serious has ever happened to me. From the moment I arrived in the ER until I left I felt well cared for. All my nurses were so kind and did everything they could to make sure I was comfortable and in no pain. I had a panic attack when I was rolled into the operating room, they told me jokes to calm me down. Although I'm sure the anesthesia helped. My surgeon Dr. Cowell was pretty awesome, he was so professional yet humorous at the same time. I was so happy I was able to have the procedure considering the waiting list. I left feeling grateful and supported. I go back in next week for my follow up appointment, I can't wait to thank Dr. Cowell and the staff for helping me so much, it meant the world to me and my family. read more

I went in for an emergency appendectomy. The staff has been AMAZING not only while I was there but after I've left. I called back with questions about my meds and they directed me right to who I needed to talk to, then some 30mins later when I was googling about sleeping on my side after surgery the surgeon called me and I was able to ask him all the questions I had. I want to shout out EVERY PERSON who took my fears away and made me feel safe and comfortable. To name a few..the phenomenal Dr.Azar, his kind nurse, my anesthesiologist, the blue eyed beauty Yvonne and the absolutely wonderful Marinel!!!! This was truly 5 Star Service!!! read more

The biopsy done for my wife put her in intense and unbearable pain for almost 4 weeks. She felt, due to doctors yelling repeatedly at Kathy, the red-head nurse over-seeing the procedure that she was handing the doctor performing the biopsy that she was using previously used equipment on a previous biopsy. Most at Mt. Hood Medical Center seem incompetent. They turned my brother away with severe stomach issues for being 5 minutes late because he couldn't figure out where the doctors office was. He was rushed to Providence hospital 1 week later and passed in their care. I feel that none of tthese medical facilities really care. Even with excellent health insurance. It is just about the money. I got bills from out-sourced labs when you would think Mt Hood medical Center should have staff capable of analyzing tests. Just incompetence and spreading the charges to affiliates and taking advantage of my health insurance. read more

Receptionist Sheryl is either incompetent or just inherently rude. Lady wouldn't help me find the right place to be directed to instead kept telling me I had the wrong phone number, when I got the number off of the paperwork from the Surgery center. Either way no need to get rude towards a customer whose just looking for help and some answers with trying to figure out if I even need to drive the 45 mins to get my surgery. Doesn't really leave it off to a good start to be a good easy going patient either. Anyways sheryl was so unhelpful with transferring me to someone who'd give me answers or just transferring me to someone else besides her in general, I wasn't able to get what I was looking for. Show up for my surgery time and they say "Oh your surgery is listed as canceled" I reply "I didn't cancel anything" RN then states "well looks like the receptionist said you are sick and that's why you canceled." I never canceled a single thing I never even mouthed the words cancel in our conversation between me and Sheryl. I'm not sure how to spell her name but that's my assumption on how to spell a grumpy older ladies name. Sheryl. Do better. And try to have some care for others. read more
