The shop was very busy which was a good sign and looked clean from the outside. I wasn't sure about the meat being in the front window even though it was in a covered glass case however that was my only quibble. The guys behind the counter were all very helpful and polite and the final bill although high was about average for what I bought. On cooking the bacon and sausages I was quite happy to see no manky white stuff came out the bacon and was happy with the taste. The sausages I was a bit disappointed with as the casing was quite tough. Still, not bad. The Sunday roast was brilliant. No shrinkage and the meat was tender and juicy. So this butcher is recommended, but I'll stick to my usual one.

Although the shop is small you rarely have to wait long even if there is a long queue. The meat is always tasty and doesn't come with all the added bits you find in some meats whilst cooking. The best cuts are always available so if you want it just ask, they'll come back with a great steak. I had 8 1/4 pounders and 12 sausages for just over £5 that's great value for money.
Ahhh, butchers. It takes me back to shopping trips with my grandmother, these places do. There'd be…read morea monumental trek up Cathedral Road that would seem to take weeks, but knowing my grandmother's hatred for physical exertion, probably only took an hour or so. We'd maybe stop into a cafe for egg and chips and my nan would, of course, know the owner. We'd go to a couple of pound shops. Not to look about, mind you. But because my nan wanted very specific things from there. And then, before heading to the bus stop, we'd go to the butchers "to pick up something for our tea". That was the routine. And now that I'm an adult myself, I can't help but smile whenever I dive in to grab a steak "for my tea". Of course, that smile also comes from the fact that in this particular butcher, it's not uncommon to see the meat cut right in front of you if you go at the right time of the day. There's something visceral and satisfying about watching your food being sliced up right in front of you. It's like being primal by proxy. And the prices on top of this... they're just the greatest thing ever. Buying a steak big enough to beat a man to death with for pocket change gives an immense amount of satisfaction. And then heading back to the cave with a hunk of meat over your shoulder? You feel like a hunter. What's not to love?

From meat to chicken to pork sausages, these are some of the things you will find here. I have brought some sausages and cooked them at home. Again the chicken itself was excellent and I have no doubts I will be back. I do have to travel some way to get to Handsworth from West Bromwich but it is worth the travelling because I know I am guaranteed quality food from here. Thankfully the City Council ordered them to replant the trees, so it's nice to know the UK's biggest retailer doesn't have a 'carte blanche'! As per the previous reviewer, I do my 'big' shop here too as the atmosphere is much more relaxed than that at the St Peter's store. If you've not been since the refit, give it a try!

They don't seem to have a great variety either, where other stores will have 5 versions of a product, your lucky if this Tesco has 1, and often when you look for something that most supermarkets have, it will be completely absent from here. BIG mistake, I am sorry to say that most of it was inedible! The Turkey- wasn't! It was a horrible re-formed roll that tasted like ???. The roast potatoes were all dried up, The Brussels (which incidentally I normally like) were so hard the fork would not even penetrate, the stuffing was not to my taste, the carrots could just about be eaten as could the pigs in blankets. The only saving grace was the cranberry sauce and the mashed potatoes- which were lovely! All in all this turned out to be a very expensive meal of mash. Sorry but all things considered- don't waste your money!
