I had a gorgeous-looking croissant served with a solid portion of raspberry preserves. -loved the preserves. The hubs ordered the Deftig, a small platter of toast, meat and cheese. The toast, thick-cut and toasty on the outside, soft and malleable just under the surface, was served with a hunk of fridge-cold butter. The result by spreading was a torn mess of bread decorated with clumps of butter. Meh. (The place has actually been open since Nov. 2013, btw.) The brie was OK; the cold cuts flavorful. I enjoyed the carrot-ginger-apple juice, but, as a HUGE carrot juice fan, really would have preferred it sans apple as the combo just tastes like a watery carrot-ginger juice. The juice serving is fairly modest and the price less so. The hubs ordered a cappuccino that was too hot and, sez hubs, the milk wasn't nicely integrated into the espresso. There was also mention of the capp not having 'microfoam'. Anyway, if you want a killer bevvie, then go on up the street to Necado before or after a visit here. You will NOT be disappointed. Upon arriving, we were not sure if one were to order at the counter or at the table. As we sat perusing the menu, a friendly server came to take our order. Easy-peasy. The place is almost small enough to ask the staff behind the counter for the bill without them having to come over or without one having to leave one's seat. As we were attempting to pay, the folk behind the counter were busy doing something just beyond eye-contact range. I got up to ask for the bill and was quoted the price at counter. Wallet fetched and bill paid. Easy. Based on that experience I would think that ordering/paying at t.S. is fairly chill, so, really, do what you like in terms of that. One can also sit at the window--sort of on a very wide sill--at quite short-legged tables resembling almost lil' foot stools. One faces the table while one's lower half faces a quarter turn the other direction. -all well and good for somewhat physically flexible folk, but for the hubs, who has back problems, it was not a good spot. Attracted to the interior, I would like to return and, maybe, try another type of beverage and another nibble and hope for the best! The cake was delicious, moist and spongy unlike cakes you get in most places around town and, I would happily give it 5 stars. The coffee was also quite ok and I enjoyed it. The owner was very friendly and casual and quick to serve us. There is a bit of outdoor seating here and I think we will spend some time out here if we end up getting a few days of summer. I really had no idea how nice this place was and I will definitely be back for cake and coffee anytime. A little gem in the area :-))

I'd come here a few times for breakfast when I first moved to the neighborhood, and had once enjoyed a delicious bowl of pasta at lunchtime on a weekday, but could never convince my husband to try it; he took one look at the shabby exterior & outdated sign and was not interested. Finally, tonight was my night. We have guests, all of us hungry and tired after a long day, and the other restaurants on our street were fully booked... I knew I had to strike. As soon as we walked into the lushly decorated, quiet interior, I was afraid I'd made a mistake - it almost seemed closed. We wandered toward the back where we encountered the owner, and he made some good-natured comments about not having much food left, and "being alone in the kitchen" tonight. We joked right back, and he listed a few dishes he could whip up, if necessary, for 4 weary diners... everything sounded amazing, and we all settled on the Tagliatelle with Truffle Butter and Champignons for simplicity's sake. He warned us it would take awhile and left us with our fresh, cold beer to relax in the quiet room and chat. Half an hour later we were digging into our perfectly-prepared, heavenly mountains of pasta. The lighting was a little too "romantic" to get a good shot of the dishes, but they were beautifully presented. We devoured our meals without speaking a word - a definite indicator the food was exceptional. I have the sense that everything at Cafe am Josephsplatz is prepared with care, and from the finest ingredients. It isn't a place to rush in and out of, and you also don't get the feeling that they're just mass-producing piles of pasta or pizza after pizza, as with some Italian restaurants. Oddly enough, our bill came to just €12 per person - for the delectable dinner and beer combined. I almost thought he'd made a mistake. TL;DR: My skeptical husband practically licked his plate. We'll be back.

This was one of the first to pop up and all the reviews I read looked great. It was a short walk from our hotel and it was right on our way to the city center. We had to of been their first customers of the day but we were greeted with a warm welcome and they even provided us with menus in English. The food was FANTASTIC & the cappuccinos were out of this world. I cannot remember the name of the nice gentleman who served us but he was such a nice guy. He seemed interested in our travels and where we were from. If you are ever in the Munich area, I definitely recommend giving this place a try. We may even go back tomorrow before we leave! The food, coffee service was fabulous. Busy from opening and a great ambience and attitude exuding from every level of this business. The location alone is 5*. This has been my favourite location for 32 years. Sitting here for breakfast makes everything feel better. Even the customers dogs seem happy to be here. Bought a very tasty pretzel roll and a bottle of deliciously refreshing limeade to enjoy during a stroll through the Gardens. Perfect!
